Our family really enjoyed our time here. We went during a surge in COVID, but felt safe at the hotel and appreciated all their precautions. Nice amenities and all the staff was friendly. We did have some issues, probably due to a reduced staff in response to the pandemic, like not being able to get a hold of anyone in the restaurant or the fitness center. No room service - we had to walk to the restaurant to pick up. Most menu items not available. No one in the restaurant when I got there - I just took my food off the counter after standing around for 10 minutes. And our room was spacious and served our needs, but was a little dingy and grubby. We found candy wrappers in the couch cushions and silly string stuck to the ceiling in the living room area. The paint was chipped on most of the walls and the renovation work wasn’t good quality - missing baseboards, paint on the floor, bubbling paint / damaged walls behind the faceplates. I didn’t see any other guests wearing masks in the hallways or parking lot, in the shared outdoor spaces, etc., though the staff did wear them everywhere.

Fun adventure high up in the Santa Cruz hills. A friend and I went during the pandemic and felt the hotel was very safe overall - check in process was smooth, lots of sanitizer available, dining was take out only but you could eat on the outdoor patio. The front office staff was really helpful, giving us a special treat as we were celebrating a birthday. The restaurant staff was so nice, taking great care of us while taking all necessary precautions. The inside of the hotel has been renovated, and there are lots of things to do outside - hike around the grounds, swimming, corn hole, fire pits. The landscaping was very nice as well. The building themselves look quite dated but I'm not sure how they would fix that. Overall we really enjoyed our stay and it was a great 24 hour escape. One note - the cleaning staff did not have their masks on. I saw them a couple of times, even inside the rooms, with their masks off - that was very disappointing and I would hesitate to return until the pandemic is over.

Thank you for choosing to stay at Chaminade for your time in Santa Cruz. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay. The note about the cleaning staff is very disturbing as we take the safety of our guests and associates very seriously, we would have appreciated you sharing this with us at the time (assuming you didn't) so that it could have been addressed immediately. At any rate, this will be discussed with the staff involved and appropriate actions will be taken. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kevin Herbst, General Manager

Great place, good location. Nice personal. The resort has everything that people might need during their stay: 11 small buildings with not luxurious, but very decent rooms, a swimming pool, jacuzzi, gym, sauna and tennis courts in the forest. We rented a room on the ground floor, it was very pleasant to have morning coffee in the privacy of the patio that belongs to this room. We felt safe as all the staff and visitors were wearing masks. The restaurant accepted orders for the delivery of breakfasts, lunches and dinners. the only drawback was that the menu was very small, lunch menu was not different from the dunner menu, and the set of main entries was the same every day. But it was nice to watch sunset from the terrace behind the restaurant and bat, what were open to take order out. Definitely will be back there.

This may become our go-to place in Santa Cruz. You're not at the beach, but you can see the ocean from the restaurant. Instead you are in peaceful eucalyptus groves. I could hear loud TV and music coming from rooms in our hallway, but once inside our room it was quiet. The large "heated" pool was too cold for me, but there were people doing laps. Spacious grounds with bonus hiking trails. It was perfect for a Covid getaway, I'm not sure how I'd feel if the place was crowded. Using a Travelzoo voucher actually made this a bargain. Next time I would like to plan a longer stay

I happened upon Chaminade Resort & Spa via an internet travel site and I'm very pleased at my good fortune.  I was looking for accommodations that I felt were special enough to justify a stay for my wife and I to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary.  My expectations were rather high but the team at Chaminade was very much up to the challenge.  From our greeting at the front desk by Arvin & Krysta to ever-accommodating Dane at the fitness center to our informative and super-attentive waiter, Anthony, at The View restaurant; we felt properly pampered. By the way; the restaurant is called "The View" for good reason and you can enjoy a view of the beautiful grounds, surrounding landscape and the Pacific ocean while you dine. Even given the precautions and policy restrictions of the current Coronavirus pandemic, at no time did we feel that the well-founded resort policies infringed upon the pleasure of our stay.  A special message of thanks goes to Arvin who, upon learning that our stay was for an anniversary, reached out to me via email and offered his personal assistance with any questions or needs that we might have. Even when we called while on the way to inquire about our room availability, we learned that Arvin had already emailed me to inquire about our arrival time and to inform me that our room would be ready upon our arrival. Regarding pandemic precautions; my wife and I were as concerned as any responsible travellers about the steps that Chaminade was taking in protecting the health & safety of their guests.  However, any such concern was unfounded.  Social distancing is advised and practiced religiously.  Masks are insisted upon in communal areas.  There is limited occupancy in the pool and jacuzzi areas.  Your sanitized TV remote control can be found in a sealed pouch upon arrival.  Towels are bagged and delivered to your room.  Clearly Chaminade is on top of operating in this pandemic environment and we were certainly put at ease by their practices. This is a epically challenging time for the hospitality and entertainment industry as we navigate an uncertain public health landscape.  We noticed that occupancy was lower than we otherwise would have expected but that is a sign of the times.  I would hope that the lengths to which the Chaminade staff has gone to meet that challenge are rewarded by the support of the public.  I would even recommend that locals visit to dine at The View to show their support while enjoying a great meal.  We certainly look forward to returning at some point.  While you have the beach and all of the other natural beauty that Santa Cruz has to offer, you would also be very satisfied to arrive and never leave the grounds of Chaminade Resort & Spa!
