In a city where even the cheap motels charge over $100/night off season, I was a bit apprehensive about staying at the low-priced Quality Inn. It had been a long time since I had stayed in one of their places.

Accommodations were good. Staff friendly and helpful. Older property, but seems well maintained. Located on the main road into town, so it's close to just about everything there is to do in Santa Cruz.
We were there for 5 days, on business. The room was clean & comfortable. The property appears to be well maintained. Although the property is next to a main the room was quiet. The continental breakfast was average, the coffee was very good.
This hotel is great, the owner is very polite, the breakfast is spot on, parking lot is clean, right on Ocean street, nice and quiet neighborhood, the rooms are very nice also, clean and smoke free. Will stay again and recommend to anyone.

It's a good stretch of the legs, more than a mile. I walked to the Boardwalk through the downtown area, which was interesting in itself. If you plan to spend the day at the Boardwalk, you probably want to park there. I was picked up later so I wasn't worried about walking back. I wouldn't do the same walk in the dark.

I'm not exactly sure about dogs, but as far as I know there are no 'smoking' rooms (call and check though) and all smoking must be done outside of the interior halway when outside the room. Most hotels do not have smoking rooms anymore. Your best bet is to CALL the hotel and ask. The hotel does not monitor this review. Good luck, and I highly recommend the hotel!
