We had a very nice stay at the West Cliff Inn. The location is great, right near the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and pier. We came to celebrate my husband's birthday with a 2 day getaway. The happy hour was nice and the daily breakfast was delicious. We enjoyed our own patio and hot tub. The place is well-maintained and very comfortable. Can't wait to return.
We had a lovely stay at this inn and I'm only sorry that we just spent one night here on our roadtrip. The property has been renovated really nicely and the room and bathroom were beautiful and fresh. Staff was super friendly and you really got that "feel at home" feeling. It was a really nice touch that they had complimentary sodas and a cheese and wine hour in the afternoons, they even waited for us to arrive before they removed it even though we were arriving after the hour. We will definiately stay here again if we come back to Santa Cruz!
We recently stayed at the Inn. It was conveniently located within walking distance to Santa Cruz wharf and boardwalk. The staff was helpful but not super friendly. We were in room 3 which had a beautiful view of the bay. The room was a very nice size. . Although there was no air conditioning and the room was warm when we arrived, it cooled down with the open windows and the fan. I was worried about noise from the street but this really wasn’t a problem. The bathroom was spacious and had a slight smell of bleach. The room was super clean. We missed the wine and cheese but they did have cookies which were good. Parking was tight but available. Breakfast was mostly cold Items but there was a good hot egg casserole. The food in the buffet was plenty filling and mostly organic. I did also like that they had cold water available in the breakfast area at all times. Would stay there again.…
What a charming spot in the perfect location. My husband and I came to Santa Cruz to meet family and friends and stayed at the West Cliff Inn for three nights. The Inn was set up on a hill overlooking the ocean as well as the lively boardwalk area that makes Santa Cruz festive and unique. There's a great walking path right outside of the hotel, allowing me to stroll along the water every morning, listening to the sounds of the "barking" seals. Our room was comfortable and spacious. It had a delightful private balcony with lounge chair and small table where we could enjoy our morning coffee and take in the heavenly cool ocean breezes. The bathroom was larger than normal hotel size, with generous counter space and a large tub/shower. Every morning, a delicious breakfast was served which we enjoyed sitting on the front porch of the Inn. Although in a bustling part of town, the Inn was like a little oasis, perhaps because it was set above street level to be more private. The staff was friendly and helpful. One evening, I was disappointed to find no more fresh homemade chocolate chip cookies in the lobby (yes, they have them every day). Noting my disappointment, the delightful desk person, Charlotte, knocked on my room door a few minutes later with a cookie wrapped in a napkin. She had found me the last cookie and wanted me to have it! So incredibly sweet and thoughtful. I highly recommend the West Cliff Inn to anyone looking for quality and charm in the heart of Santa Cruz. We will definitely return.…
The accommodations including staff were very nice. It is less than a few blocks away from the Santa Cruz Wharf and Boardwalk. But most especially the Dream Inn had an outdoor flea market and loud band that was a great disturbance for the evening we stayed there. It is not a quiet location. If you don’t mind that then be my guest. We won’t be coming back n
The West Cliff is perfectly located at the top of a small hill, at the city end of the beach - close to everything. It's is a beautifully renovated old house - tons of charm and character, and a view of the ocean from bed :) The windows open for a lovely breeze off the sea. The complimentary late-afternoon wine & cheese, and delicious breakfast are very much appreciated! Highly recommended.
We stayed here on our honeymoon this month. Given the prices charged, we were expecting 5 star from start to finish. Upon check-in, the agent at the desk was reluctant to do anything at all. We were disappointed to find there was no lift so had to lug two heavy suitcases up stairs. There was no bottled water available, only chilled tap water,, so anyone like me whose stomach cannot take carbonated drinks, is not catered for. We asked about dinner locally, and was recommended a steak house which was a '5 minute drive away'. Try 20-25 minutes which we only discovered once we set off, meaning we were late for our table. We asked the agent is she would mind booking us a table since we had no cell service in the U.S. She called the restaurant but handed the phone to us. Given covid is something we are all living with, sharing a phone was not something I wanted to do was I was left with little choice - she did not even wipe it down first. Whilst she stated it was preferred that we wore a mask when in public areas of the guest house, she was not wearing one herself. Onto the room - it reaked of bleach, whilst cleaning is important, it needs to be appropriately fragranced as well. The bleach smell was overcoming and made me vomit. Still, we had our outdoor jacuzzi to look forward to. Except this is overlooked by the guest house opposite - one guest there was sat in a chair outside his room staring. The few plants do nothing to offer any privacy whatsoever which is not evident from the photos when booking the room. We used it for ten minutes but with someone staring through the side of a curtain decided to give it a miss. We may as well have booked a Comfort Inn and saved some money. There are no staff there so nobody to discuss issues with after 8pm or so. Please stay elsewhere!…
This is an exceptional property with wonderful amenities in a great location, close to the ocean. The house is charming and the breakfast is first-rate. So many great touches, the business is very well managed. The only negative we had is that the rooms are on the small side (especially the bungalow), but they are very well appointed and there are large areas for meeting and conversation on the property, both inside and outside. All in all, we highly recommend and would definitely be back again!
The historic house is beautifully appointed and has intelligent updates. Service was excellent. The location is an easy walk to the beach and boardwalk. Delicious breakfasts were laid out in the picturesque dining room. The small grounds are beautifully kept.
Stayed a couple of nights in room 8. This is on the top floor. Very big room and bathroom, with jetted tub and walk-in shower. Although it doesn’t have AC, there’s a cooling breeze if you keep the windows open. The only problem we experienced was getting our luggage up to the room. There’s no lift and our luggage was too big for the dump waiter. The breakfast was basic but good. The afternoon wine and cheese reception was nice. Very nice staff. Great location. Highly recommended.
