Hotel is well maintained, good area and very attentive to guest. My daughter left her pillow in the room on the day of check out. I had a call from the hotel (Elizabeth) offering to ship the pillow to us. Elizabeth went above and beyond to return the pillow and make sure we were happy. Overall great Hotel and great experience.

This is definitely one of the best hotels in Santa Cruz. but unfortunately, this review is a two-star downgrade from my last review. the hotel is very nice. The staff are outstanding. The grounds are clean and cheerful. The room is comfortable. The pool and hot tub are outstanding. But the hotel is not enforcing the covid-19 mask wearing safety procedures on the grounds. The staff are following the guidelines perfectly. But many of the guests are not. On Saturday night several of the guests were so drunk that they were stumbling and falling. Needless to say, they had no masks and they were quite vocal. None were violent or angry, but the mix of extremely drunk guests being allowed to walk around the hotel and small children made for a bit of an uneasy situation. Combine that with the guests lack of mask-wearing, and, for anyone who is not vaccinated, it was definitely not an optimum situation.

Wednesday I really needed a break so I decided to drive over the hill to Santa Cruz. Upon arriving my spontaneous self thought about the pool and swimming at Hotel Paradox. I called to see if the hot tub was working because of covid and it finally is! I also found out the restaurant is open for breakfast and lunch orders. I decided to book on my Marriott account with my points I have earned. Upon arriving I noticed a new gal working there, well someone I had not seen before. I must say things did take a little time thus I knew she was new after a minute or so. But..... I am so so impressed. I am a super patient person and it was wonderful watching her figure everything out. I will tell you why.... Oh and I asked her name it was Katie! Katie really made every effort to review my room, my details, any comps I could or should receive. She honored my status verbally as a Bonvoy Member and really went the extra mile to ask details from her supervisor and make sure our stay was going to be perfect. Katie took time because she was super attention to detail oriented, she was eager to learn, and seemed super dedicated and excited to be part of the Marriott team. I do not just say this because I really enjoy Hotel Paradox for the pool and mini getaways; but the service this day was EXEMPLARY. I believe all hotel chains have their ups and downs; trust me I am not always happy about certain customer service. But this experience the whole time from swimming, hot tubing, breakfast, drinks, and a cozy bed and room including the service was grand!

We are Marriott lifetime titanium and we reserved the Paradox for 2 nights with points It was a category 6 hotel and it was 110,000 points for 2 nights .... mind you to stay at the Ritz nearby it’s 120,000 points for 2 nights.... we had never tried this hotel before so we decided on it Very disappointed with the look and service we got leading in to check in with no response at our attempts to chat online in bonvoy app or receiving a mobile key.... no upgrade we were told it was an upgrade since we got a higher floor and pool view but all we could see from the room was a public corridor outside the room and a tree.... the bigger disappointment was the hotel looks like a glorified motel not a category 6 Marriott hotel At check in there was no discussion of points of breakfast and we were told to call and schedule cleaning. We called early next morning around 7:30 am to ask about breakfast benefit and was told we forfeited it.... bizarre response.... anyway my husband explained breakfast was separate from points vs food and beverage credit benefit and then grudgingly we were promised breakfast vouchers. We scheduled cleaning at 2 pm since we were told we could only schedule cleaning in the afternoon since housekeeping in the morning was reserved for the rooms checking out..... We returned after a full day of hiking and being in the beach at around 4 pm.... the room was not cleaned We called front desk to ask and the woman answering asked bizarre questions like did you call after 8 am and we explained No it was earlier than 8 am and nobody even told us that cleaning cannot happen if we called after 8 am.... I guess knowledge of this is a plus at this point The front desk took no responsibility and no apology and just said they have to contact housekeeping.... so we were left to wait inside a couped up unclean room after a full day out on our vacation I have totally no idea who in their right mind and for what reason would label this a luxury hotel or give it a category 6 rating in Marriott As another reviewer has said it indeed is a conundrum a total disastrous paradox Btw even waiting an hour still no information on when our room will be cleaned It is complete disaster to have come here for 55000 points a night vs the Ritz at 60000 a night ....

A paradox: is this hotel a Marriott or not a Marriott? As a Titanium Elite, I often book with Marriott. Here’s why I subject myself to this torture: 1. Room upgrades. This hotel unfortunately was playing games with room upgrades. First the suites were for sale on the app but mysteriously “unavailable.” Then there was a mysterious cancellation that made them available after I pushed back. Then... no, a quick radio out to housekeeping... unavailable again! We ended up in a standard room. 2. $10 Food and Beverage credit. This credit was given! Reluctantly! And upon several reminders! Woohoo! Of course the only F&B right now is a cabinet of Pringles and M&Ms. That’s not anyone’s fault. A sign of the times, let’s say. 3. Breakfast for two. Also given very, very reluctantly. But executed just fine. Kudos! 4. Points and elite qualifying nights. Here’s where the paradox becomes paradoxical. After many many efforts to try to earn points for this hotel stay, I’ve just decided they don’t want to do it. The hotel failed to notice my Marriott account upon check-in; this caused me to give a confused call to customer service. This caused the hotel to give me a confused call to my room. Later, while watching the sun set on the ocean, I got another confused call from the property. “You opened a case against us,” a manager said as cheerfully as he could. Later, at hotel check-out, another clerk began by saying: “There’s a case against us. Let’s settle this now.” At first I thought the case was sort of unfair, but now I’m thinking it wasn’t really enough?! I still haven’t earned any points from this stay. 5. Brand standards. You expect a certain quality of bedding with a hotel chain. Sadly, this hotel seems to be skirting those standards. The sheets were threadbare and scratchy. The mattress was creaky and squeaky. My guess is these soft areas of maintenance have taken a hit with occupancy dropping. 6. Reliable HVAC. Do you want your room temperature to be 66 degrees when it’s 55 outside? That is not physically possible at this property. I have a five word suggestion for anyone considering this property: stay at the Hyatt Place.

If you could give us your real name we could look up your folio and find out what the heck happened and perhaps how we can improve. Yes, Covid has wreaked havoc on the hotel industry but I assure you our hospitality and customer service and Marriott brand standards are our highest priority. I do know that reservations made same day can sometimes be tricky for Suite upgrades as we only have so many and they do get picked up quickly and often by elite members way in advance. Let me ask you a question, was your Titanium membership attached to your original reservation? That can definitely stall things sometimes.
