The whole property including the rooms are filthy and in disrepair. The bedsheet had blood stains (I hope they were stains), the coffee maker didn’t work, it smelled strongly of cigarette smoke and I was afraid to leave my car parked there. There was less than half of a roll of toilet paper and no extra provided. When I called to request more, the manager said I had to come to the office to get it myself. When I went down to the office, the manager wouldn’t answer the buzzer. After a long time, several other people were waiting too and one of them called the phone number on the office door (the office is locked and the only way to get someone is to use the buzzer and then they talk to you through a tiny window) and the manager finally came out. He said the buzzer was broken. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and this was the worst one I have ever experienced. I can’t believe it has stayed open. Seriously bad, you have been warned.

Smelly room, rude staff and overpaying hostel. If you want to wake up to loud sounds in the middle of the night , book this adventure.
I wish to give 0 or negative but can’t unfortunately.

It’s better to camp outside and sleep in peace rather than book this hell hotel.

We had an unpleasant stay. This motel is pretty old and is in serious need of a renovation. The elevator had loose parts, the buttons were missing so we decided to take the stairs instead. The room stank of smoke even though we had asked for non-smoker. Cigarette burns were all over the bathroom sink. The drapes were sagging and falling off the hooks (held in place with tape) allowing no privacy from the busy street. The balcony door would not shut properly. All in all way overpriced for such a dump. Outrageous weekend rates. For what we paid we could have stayed at a decent B&B in the area.

From the outside it doesn't look like much but the rooms were upgraded and very clean and I loved that they had no carpet. Also a view of the boardwalk over the Lorenzo river. I didn't hear other tenants. Was nervous when I got there but once I got to my room I was pleasantly surprised.

We live in the Bay Area my Mother was visiting us from Texas. We always go to Santa Cruz. We stay at different places each time. This time we decided to go at the last minute. We only found a few room available on Hotels.com. So my husband called me and said to book this room and I did. We were very busy. It was a big mistake that we did not read these reviews. We got to the hotel. It was bad. There is an elevator (our room was on the 3rd floor). When you step in the elevator as you take the first step the door starts to close on you. I have a toddler that was very upset and scared of this door shutting on her after she saw it close on me and almost knock me over. Then once in the elevator. It really turns your stomach. I think it has been used as a restroom more than once. We were all holding our nose as we were trying to figure out the magic marker writing on the wall that marked the floor #. It was also hard to tell what to push. It was the worst elevator I have ever been in. Then once in our room. It had a foul odor. This hotel really needs more than renovations. The carpet is coming up along the wall. The smoke alarm looks like it might fall out of the celing. They brought a mat for our daughter to sleep on and there were bugs that came out of it. We went to dinner sat there looking at a vacancy sign at another hotel. My husband called them. He went over looked at the room and for almost the same amout of money we ended up in a beautiful room. We went back to the Sandpiper hotel got our belongings and spoke to the Sandpiper front desk.My Husband told the people running the Sandpiper Hotel that the condition in the elevator was terrible. He told my husband if we did not like it we can take the stairs. They were unwilling to give us our money back. We paid 151.00. Way too much for the terrible conditions like this.
Once we got to our new hotel my husband spoke to hotels. They were so nice. We ended up getting a refund a a little extra for all the problems. We are so pleased with the great service from them. We are logging complaints with the city about this hotel. DO NOT stay at this hotel. If there was a way to give them a below terrible I would.
Try Casablanca Inn. They are GREAT!!!

Yikes ! ! This place should be closed, placed on a flatbed truck, hauled to the beach,
set on fire and floated off into the sunset! The only use of this structure is as a beach bonfire. Very, very disappointed.

Truly a nasty hotel. I should have known, when we were greeted by a women who didn't give us eye contact. Handed me a registration form assuming I knew I had to fill it out just because she put it in front of me. Then she walked away and her husband came out, with no words handed me the keys and the remote control. Thats it, no hospitality. And, there wasa horrid smell in the lobby!!

The rooms were dirty, spots on the rug, scrapes in the paint in the wall, bathroom was dirty. They took the sliding glass doors off the tubs but did not bother to resurface the tub so you can see the old grout from the outline of the old doors.

The heater/air didn't work. It was Sauna in the room. When we opened the door in the middle of the night, there was lots of noise from the street when last call hit at 2AM. Then, the elevator made this awful screech bang noise everytime it stopped on our floor. The walls were paper thin and we heard everything going on our side our room.

It was rough night and I will never ever recommend this hotel. The owners should be ashamed of the lack of pride and hospitility they take in their establishment. I'm surprised they have not been shut down yet. . .

This place did not even have a clock in the room! So, if you wanted to get up early, you had to use their 'wake up call'. They also want to make sure you are still there every day since I had to have my key-card reactivated every night when I returned to the room. And the continental breakfast consisted of a small cup of coffee and a pre-packaged Danish that they handed you. Ironincally, this was probably the best thing about the stay. And, I saw no one around there who looked like the person shown in the picture standing at the front desk. Take your time, spend a little more money and look around for some other place to stay in Santa Cruz!

The paint is worn, the Jacuzzi closed, the amenities zero. The "Bay" view is of the entrance to busy highway 17. For $129 it is the worst hotel I have stayed in at that price or in fact ever. There is an ice bucket but no ice, no soda machine even. The usual budget tacky
decor was missing, in fact there was none.
Att 1101 AM the owner called to remind us that 11am was checking out time.
After paying on line I discovered hotels with swimming pools and in room jacuzzis for the same price. Does the owner not understand that noone would ever return to this dismal place?
