Travelers' Choice
The ocean-front Sea & Sand Inn has always been popular with savvy out-of-towners, but a major renovation in 2009 has added a whole new “wow” factor. Three new luxury king spa rooms with ocean view balconies were added; two spacious family cottages with private hot tubs and three other spa rooms were also upgraded. All 22 rooms have a fantastic ocean front view of sparkling Monterey Bay.

My wife and I have stayed in this hotel on many occasions and the biggest complaint I have is the comfort of the beds which appear to be very outdated along with the furniture. The rooms are clean but the furniture could be updated for the price point of the hotel. The hotel was generous enough to make sure we got on the ground floor do to having mobility problems as seniors but our room (111) bed was terrible and so uncomfortable. The entire bed needs to be replaced. I've experienced this in several other rooms but not all. Everything else in the hotel is great but the ownership needs to be mindful of making sure that all the beds are updated and comfortable for what they are charging. This is probably the most important thing about the rooms other than the view. A good nights sleep is very important. After all the years we've been going to this hotel, I'm not sure I would go back do to the restless sleeping at night.

Hotel's Favorite
We have stayed at the Sea and Sand Inn for over 40 years in a row and love the hotel. We will continue to stay there as long as we can afford the hotel. The view is priceless (even though we pay a lot).

Great location and view, but old furniture and no curtesy parking for your car after 11 am in the day of your check out. The rooms are very expensive and breakfast is very basic. We paid almost $400 for the room for one night. I just think I would have expected more. Now looking back and actually being in Santa Cruz I realized there are better hotels closer to the Boardwalk that offer a better value and newer facilities. Will not stay here again.

Book early in advance. The location is walking distance to many fine restaurants, Boardwalk, and Wharf. The ocean views are breathtaking and the staff is warm and friendly. When I think of a Santa Cruz experience, I think of the Sea and Sand.

We stayed in the Deluxe Balcony suite for 4 nights and it was fabulous. The double balcony doors opened right onto a million dollar view of beach and pier. We left the doors open at night and fell asleep to the sound of crashing waves and sea lions barking in the distance. It was magical. Everything about the stay was five stars. The room was enormous and nicely furnished, the bed was one of the most comfortable we've slept in anywhere, and bedding was top shelf as well. We lived on the balcony which was furnished with comfortable chairs to sit for hours and take in the view. We will be back!

Really enjoyed the facility and staff! Location is the best in Santa Cruz! Very clean and we also really loved the patio’s overlooking the ocean! Sat and read whenever we were not visiting family! The morning breakfast was fresh, diverse and a really nice feature. Get some coffee and the walk out to the patio and watch and listen to the ocean crashing just below. Oh yes, an occasional barking of the Seals on the Warf just a few hundred feet away! The location also allowed us to leave the car and walk to the Warf and downtown and all along West Cliff Drive! We won’t stay anywhere else !

Room 301 with the Balcony spa is amazing. Giant deck with seating area. Privacy on both sides. You are up high enough you have privacy from the beach below but can still people watch. Living room seperated from bed area. Leave the kids at home & enjoy the good vibes.

For some reason my first review posted under a strange user name. On my first stay we stayed in a top floor king bed room which we loved. On our second stay we were in the king spa room with a balcony which seems to have been refurbished. Again we loved sitting on our balcony or in the garden enjoying the views. Breakfast is a good start to the day, complimentary hot drinks available all day, home baked cookies in the afternoon followed by wine and cheese. Perfect location for the beach and boardwalk plus a nice walk to Steamer Lane. Staff lovely and friendly and constantly cleaning. No downsides for us, we loved our stays.

Views are amazing, wonderful to sit in the garden with complimentary hot drink (available all day) watching the beach and ocean. Rooms are a little tired but that adds to the charm. Filling cold breakfast, home baked cookies in the afternoon plus wine @5.30. we enjoyed our stay so much we are cutting short our Monterey trip to return to Sea & Sand Inn. We slept with rear windows open so we could hear the sea. Staff were lovely and very helpful.
