On my travels around California I've stayed in a few of these very dated motels in extremely expensive areas. Probably something to do with zoning or building codes but these tired old places just keep going. It's kind of a cute beach looking place from the front. Our flight arrived at 9pm and we already had messages from manager asking when we would arrive as they were closing the lobby. Arriving at 10pm to the lights out felt like we were waking someone up at their home which was a little weird for a hotel on a Friday night. The room was just across from the lobby and felt like it was from the 60s with little changed since then. The bathroom has been lightly updated over time and the decor was beachy. The room was small and you could hear the upstairs guests pretty clearly. Breakfast is extremely basic with a few cereal options, a microwave breakfast egg thing and some coffee. The bikes in front were rusty and not very nice, wouldn't recommend. They have a great bike share program in Santa Barbara and there's a docking station just a block or so away from the hotel. Santa Barbara Bcycle. We had a lot of fun riding around The best part of the place is being just a block from the beach, so sometimes the location is more important than the hotel amenities. It was fine for one night.

When looking back at the photos of this hotel, it is definitely deceiving. We arrived at this hotel. It is located on the street parallel to the beach. You have to cross one small and one larger street to get to the beach although it is very walkable and easy to get to. We checked-in very easily and got into our room immediately. We also chose not to pay additional for parking. Parking on the street was very easy. Our room was on the first floor. Room 112. It was definitely dated and we feel required some new paint and maybe some bathroom/kitchen updates. They do not offer any soaps in the bathroom. Personally that is not a problem, as I do travel with my own. One thing that I wash was advertised is that this hotel does not have air conditioning. We were also there during a heatwave so it was quite hot and humid. They have two fans and left all the windows open all night. Breakfast in the morning is very minimal. Cereal/oatmeal (with a gallon of milk that is left out on the counter all morning). Muffins, apples, orange juice, yogurt, and coffee. You can purchase snacks which was nice for the beach. They do offer beach/pool towels. Ultimately, this hotel was convenient. It is not as close to the town as we thought, but it is a quiet area which was nice. It was sufficient to stay in the area for a wedding. And it was cost effective.

We booked this motel in June on the booking.com site with a "book it now" booking. We booked for Saturday night, but the booking went through as Sunday. We attempted to check into the motel within 15 minutes of the booking confirmation. The receptionist was borderline rude and unhelpful, but eventually identified that the booking had come through for the following day. I immediately requested that the booking be cancelled due to an error in the booking. The "manager" abruptly told me to cancel through booking.com as they had no ability to cancel. He remained very unhelpful. Ringing booking.com, they advised to request a refund from the motel. Subsequently (after our trip ended) I wrote to both booking.com and Inn at East Beach. Again the motel advised that they couldn't cancel and I had to go back through booking.com. Eventually - after trying the "Contact Us" twice on the booking.com site, and calling numerous phone numbers, I eventually got through to booking.com who wrote and requested a refund from the motel who immediately refused to refund - hiding behind their "policies" as an excuse to pocket almost $300 for providing NO service, and not being inconvenienced except for a 20-30 minute period where the room was identified as "booked" before being cancelled. This motel lacks integrity and actual hospitality from my experience. I fully understand that hospitality industry has had a very hard few years with Covid lockdowns etc. and on my travels I was very understanding of various motel's and hotels situations. But this motel chose to pocket all the money for a non-existent booking. They did not even look into why the booking was incorrect, nor did they negotiate even a partial refund. I certainly would not recommend this motel based purely on the experience at the front desk, the untruths they told about cancelling the booking (or at least not being honest that they have the ultimate decision on a refund and passing the responsibility back to booking.com (twice)) and the unwillingness to rectify an error (whether finger trouble, or technical error) even within 30 minutes of the booking confirmation.

I am really untimely regarding reviews. Our visit was in June of 2021. I am confused by the negative reviews. I found the owner, Billy, and the staff, especially Mariela & Gentry to be very friendly and accommodating. They worked with us to ensure our comfort. Billy told me he had just recently (timeframe unknown) had take over the hotel and was in the process of making repairs and modernizing. The rooms were clean and tidy. There was definite wear and tear but nothing that made me feel it was dirty. The location is great and our rooms were less that $200 whereas the Hilton less than a 5 minute walk and where my nephews wedding was, cost $350 and the discounted wedding rate. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

What a terrible experience. I would never recommend this motel to anyone. Preliminarily, I have stayed in refurbished motels in the east beach area before and they were lovely. I booked Inn at East Beach thinking it would be of similar quality. It was not. I booked this sort of last minute because I was seeing friends in the area for nye. Upon checking in, the man at the front desk was not welcoming. He said that I would have to pay for parking in the back. The street is very crowded and there would not be sufficient parking. He then looked at my reservation and said because I booked through the Inn’s website parking was included. I paid an additional 50 dollars for my small shih tzu. The parking is in the back and you enter through a gate. The door to the room was partially painted. The flooring is a laminate hardwood that appeared new but was sticky and filmy. The curtains were dirty. The vanity was okay. There was a curtain over the closet. The shower and bath were very old. The toilet seat was discolored and disgusting. The tv remote was old. I had paid for a deluxe room with a fireplace. The fireplace didn’t work. The beds were incredibly uncomfortable and old. I wedged a chair to keep the door locked because there was no manual locking mechanism other than the locks themselves. The walls were nicely painted. This was terribly disappointing and honestly one of the worst nights of sleep. I do not recommend staying here.

The room was clean. Bed ok. The internet was unreliable. When I arrived the front desk staff person ignored me while she talked to a staff person. She did thank me for my patience.....but it was a bit rude. It's a nice location.

I am only allowed 10 photos but there are about 40... This was a place a friend suggested that was cleaver, clean and a nice place. I neglected to ask him what decade he had visited. This place was terrible. Let me start with this. I left Seattle on the flight to Santa Barbara at 3:16... The two hour flight to Santa Barbara. While in the air I get two emails asking where I am by some third party booking system. However when I booked I went to their website. Had no idea I was being hijacked to a third party booking system. Where I purchased the room. The emails wanted to know where we were because they were "locking the doors" ! WT actual F? So I called the two numbers provided and neither answered. Then I get a call from the Inn. A lady with broken English asking me why I am calling. I went off to her about the email... I have never in my life experienced such a situation. I asked her what kind of place was this and she began apologizing. I said " I hope this is not setting a tone for the rest of my visit." She kept saying" I don't understand!" We arrived at about 7:30 after waiting for luggage and getting the car... A 10 minute ride from the airport... The door was locked. Then we got to the room... Which uses a regular non-security regular brass key... And this is what we found. Check out the miniature toilet for toddlers in a day care. And the rusty drain in the shower. I left out was the dirty floors and mold in the bathroom. The 5 inch thick mattress and actually box springs from I am guessing 1978? The smoke alarm that decided to go off at 8:30 am. The rate for the room after taxes was nearly $300 a night. I was expecting quite a different experience for Santa Barbara! Never again! Lesson if there is not a Marriott or Hilton... Don't book!!

The hotel clerk told me my two electric bikes would be safe 3 feet outside front lobby. Then proceeded to walk away in the middle of the night while my two bikes were STOLEN. There is a special place in hell for this hotel. The owner acted as guilty as sin.

It’s a very nostalgic hotel that maintains it’s originality. It’s walking distance to the beach, has a great pool , our room has mini kitchen and free breakfast. The price that we paid is so reasonable. I appreciate the manager and Gerry for their kind attention. The room needs an update on the flooring. But overall very grateful and content. Thank you

The motel's attraction is being one block from the beach. The staff were also pleasant and helpful. However, the property is pretty old and in need of some TLC. The room was comfortable but over priced. I'm sure they can get the prices due to the location. That said, I'd stay at the Motel 6 next door which looked to be in better shape.
