Stayed for 10 days in May. Loved the location, the quiet setting and the pool. This is not a fancy hotel but a very adequate and comfortable since they have remodeled. Bed was super comfy but the pillows were dreadful!!! We come to SB twice a year and stay for 10-14 days. Would love to make this our regular hotel but the hard pillows could be a deal breaker. Please upgrade to softer pillows to make your guests more comfortable!

Hotel's Favorite
This hotel was absolutely wonderful and has such a joyful charm inside and out. The hotel has been completely renovated and I loved the new rooms! The bed was sooooo comfortable! Not only did I enjoy my room but really liked that I could walk out the front door and was almost immediately running along the beach. Very much worth checking into!

Dear Shaneplatt, Your review brought a big smile to our faces! We are thrilled you enjoyed all the refreshments we have made on the property and our close proximity to the beach. The goal of our renovation was to create a space that truly compliments the Santa Barbara vibe. Thank you for your business and come again soon! Management & Team of the Mason Beach Inn

Overall, the Inn is a clean, quiet and centrally located hotel in a great city. We stayed here for 2 nights during our honeymoon road trip. Pros - fantastic location! One block from the ocean and close to historic State Street, the MBi is a great value and our room, a one bedroom suite was very nicely appointed. The suite is great when one guest sleeps longer than the other, offering a separate sitting area. Staff - Gio and Lizbeth were absolutely great - very friendly and professional. Cons - Our room appeared to not have been used in a while as there was a substantial layer of dust on the dresser and nightstands. Our bedroom a/c was not functioning, but thankfully the weather was mild and it proved to be a minor inconvenience. The hotel did offer a rate reduction as compensation. Bathroom - the shower design has a fixed glass panel and one sliding door; makes it difficult to turn on the shower to obtain hot water without having to cower in the corner, avoiding cold water. Also, there wasn’t a built-in shelf in the shower, forcing one to place their toiletries on the shower floor - not the safest situation. And speaking of safety, our room lacked more than one set of towels and no bath mat - my wife had to run down to the front desk for a bath/floor mat while I was in the shower - and was in line with another guest having the same issue. Given the bathroom floors are tile, not sure why hotel management is flirting with a very real slip and fall situation by not ensuing floor mats are available. If you are seeking a quiet and clean hotel, the MBI will serve you well.

This is what I sent to hotel management. No reply. I am writing with a complaint about my visit at your hotel. The first night I stayed, there was no room service the next morning. There were only 2 towels and the shower in room 212 backs up and doesn't drain, so the next person who showers has to stand in about 4" of the previous person's shower water as it takes about an hour to drain. I went to the front desk to let them know. He said we have to request maid service if we want it. That is such a ridiculous policy for a hotel, I've never heard of that, and how would we even know? Trash cans are overflowing the shower needs looked at, and although he gave me new towels, we needed more. I asked to talk to the manager, but there was no manager there. He said there was no one there to give maid service at that time, so I requested maid service for the next day. We never got it. When I went down to the desk, the man working said that someone had quit and he couldn't have the room made up for us, again. I tried to speak to the manager, but again, there was no management on site. So we had a three night 4 day stay with no maid service. I had to keep emptying trash by the elevators and going downstairs to get towels. And the whole time, only the first person who showered had a clean shower. The whole experience was completely unacceptable. And seeing that management was never on site to talk to, it seems the hotel is completely mismanaged. I haven't left a review on Yelp, Trip Advisor or your site yet. I want to hear back from you first. We stayed at a hotel, not a hostel. It was inexcusable.

This place could be so much more. It's in a great location, a short walk to the pier, close to lots of great restaurants and shopping...BUT, the customer service at the front desk and subsequently was subpar for a small boutique hotel. When we checked in the girl at the desk was typing on the computer and continued for a while. She finally made eye contact and proceeded to ask for a name. No greeting, just robotic in her exchange. She asked for the pin for the two rooms. I was confused. Long story short..it was for the Travelzoo coupon. I had spoken directly to the reservations people to book this and thought this was completed. Our room was comfortable but not very clean especially the bathroom floor. On arriving home, I realized I had left a brand new denim jacket in the wardrobe closet. I called immediately to inquire. The agent answering the phone was disinterested in helping me and said he would check with the maids tomorrow and see if it showed up. He took my name and number and said he would call back. I called later and talked to another agent and he had no idea I had called but said nothing had shown up in lost and found. I was disappointed in the attitude of the service staff at this hotel. Not only did they not seem happy for our business but they seemed absolutely disinterested in making any type of impression what so ever. When I have travel dollars to spend, I will not choose this establishment again. I saw too many cute places nearby that looked inviting. If management is trying to market their Inn on Travelzoo for exposure, they may want to consider retraining their employees in hospitality. First and foremost, a simple hello, welcome to Mason Beach Inn would be a great way to start. Truly, how hard is that?
