Travelers' Choice
Belmond El Encanto, a Forbes Five-Star luxury hotel, has been meticulously restored to capture all the romance and glamour that endeared it to both the local Santa Barbara community and visitors alike. As part of Belmond, this is the company's first excursion to the American west coast. Ninety-two quintessential, California-styled suites and bungalows dot the lush, terraced grounds featuring seven-acres of gloriously landscaped gardens with sweeping views of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean. Original architectural features have been lovingly restored, including the historic, trellis-lined Arbor and Lily Pond. Modern additions to the expansive outdoor zero-edge pool and a new beautifully appointed boutique spa enhance the journey for today's luxury-seeking guest.

They have a great internet marketing team, and I suggest you pay for a better room. As other reviewers mentioned, the property is lovely, but seems woefully understaffed and in dire need of a chef. The staff they do have are good and tried their best and should all be given a bonus for doing the work of 2 people. Our "Deluxe King" room bore no resemblance to the picture on the web site, a teeny tiny bungalow, dark and airless, with no balcony or outside space. The room was only slightly larger than the bed, to sit in the only chair crammed between the bed and the wall you had to close the bathroom door, blocking off the only significant natural light. The wardrobe was in the bathroom because there was nowhere else it would fit. The bathroom was great with lots of light and a wonderful view but the open bathroom door took up a lot of space relative to room size. Others in our party who paid the same amount got a vastly better "Deluxe King"room, so as the web site says the rooms vary and better to get specifics about your room. There were only a couple weekend fitness classes, which I think were offered just so they could advertise them . The pool was nice. It's certainly not a destination spa. Proximity to Montecito is nice. Even if we wanted in-room breakfast, there was no where to eat it or even put the tray so that feature was irrelevant. Similar to the other reviewer, we returned our spoiled-fish and watery soup dinner entrees which we've never done before in 30 years of travel, and left a second bad entree largely unfinished. The bread was excellent. At breakfast the juices seemed watered down. Overall, we felt like the property was struggling in a post-Covid world.

It’s been so long since we’ve had a chance to be spoiled like this. It’s rare you find a nice place like this that truly lives up to its reputation with great service and a well maintained property. It’s truly paradise and I’m grateful to Kevin and Richard for going out of their way to make this the stay of our dreams. Can’t wait to go back.

My fiancé and I traveled to Santa Barbara for 4 sublime nights at the enchanting El Encanto. We felt so taken care of from the moment we arrived. We were given a tour of our room and shown how to turn on the fireplace and heated bathroom floors. We were pleasantly surprised to find a welcome amenity, including a decadent charcuterie plate and sparkling wine in our room that we paired with a dozen refreshing oysters. The local bath salts in our room smelled so divine that we couldn't help but take a bath, twice, in the deep soak tub. We explored Santa Barbara on the hotel's complimentary electric bikes, and we soaked up the sun by the zero-edge pool. This was by far one of the most relaxing getaways that I've ever experienced. I can't wait to return for another rejuvenating escape.

El Encanto is a beautiful property. Unfortunately, we experienced unremarkable service and disappointing food. Beyond the parking valet desk it was chronically difficult to find assistance. The concierge desk was never staffed. The wait staff was disorganized. Room service trays sats outside rooms for days without being picked up. Things one would never expect when paying for 5 star service. Even though we were staying at the hotel, we could not get a reservation for our first 2 days. When we did eat at the restaurant, we returned both of our entrees, twice! We have never done such a thing before. We hope that the hotel's problems are temporary, perhaps related to staffing difficulties post-COVID. But the hotel is certainly not worth the luxury price at this time.

Thank you very much for bringing these issues to our attention. We do apologize for this unfortunate experience. I can assure you that the unfortunate moments captured on film are certainly not the norm. We take your comments vert seriously, and have already addressed these concerns with the internal team and departments involved. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you will give El Encanto another opportunity to show you how exceptional our resort and service can be.

The hotel is in a spectacular location overlooking SB perched high up on a hill. Layout is very unique and loved the restaurant and pool decks - service was very hit and miss which was disappointing given the price point
