This hotel is thoroughly delightful. From the moment that the host met us in her beautiful garden to the lovely chat about travel plans as we left, the experience was like staying in the home of a friend. Immaculately clean, thoughtfully appointed, and thoroughly charming- nothing disappoints. And the hot almond croissants at breakfast are delicious. We will be back.

We found this lovely B&B nearly 20 years ago and return there at least once per year. It's in a quiet neighborhood and away from the hectic beach scene but so convenient to much- especially if you don't mind a little walk and enjoy the flavor of the local wonderful restaurants - not quite so touristy. We've stayed in many of the rooms and suites as well as one of the cottages. The rooms are each unique and charming, offer various amenities depending on the room, and are well kept up. This was our first venture out during the pandemic and we were completely satisfied with the many sanitary precautions the owners have taken to put a traveler at ease. While the breakfast and happy hour service was not available, it didn't detract from our enjoyment of the stay given the tradeoff for enhanced safety.

Dear Guest, Thank you for posting such a lovely review - it was wonderful to welcome you back again. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay and felt safe with our Covid precautions during this time. We do feel lucky with our location in a residential neighborhood just far away enough from the crowds but a few blocks walk from the beginning of the newly opened pedestrian zone on State Street. I look forward to seeing you again in the near future - meanwhile, stay well:) Best regards, Christine Dunstan Owner

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful accommodation in Santa Barbara and it didn’t disappoint. I found it accidentally online on a travel review and am glad we went with it. The accommodation is presented beautifully with all rooms with a fairytale name. We stayed in “Tweedledee” which was at the back of the gardens. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The gardens were so peaceful and relaxing and we spent sometime there soaking up the sunshine. We loved the drinks and canapés served each afternoon at 5 and because the weather was so great we had this in the garden. Breakfast was served each morning in the lounge area and each day we were offered something different. There was a variety of things to choose from.
Accommodation is located one block from State St, but quite away from the beach, this didn’t bother us as we are keen walkers. No problem for those with a car. We loved being just on the edge of where it’s all happening but not right in the middle of downtown. Highly recommend this place, it was worth the $$$.

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on your recent stay at the Cheshire Cat Inn with other travelers. I am delighted to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us and that you were able to relax in our gardens. It is one of our guest's favorite pastimes to find a sunny spot after a day of touring with a glass of wine and some homemade hors d'oeuvres. We do love our location in a leafy neighborhood, as you remarked, on the edge of where it's all happening. For guests who prefer not to walk too far, there is an electric shuttle which operates throughout the day located 4 blocks from the Inn which takes you to the pier and surrounding activities. I hope that you will come back for another stay soon. Warm regards, Christine Dunstan

We escaped from a horribly overpriced hotel experience and for less $ found refuge in the beautiful, charming, welcoming, 2-bedroom, full-kitchen with sun-lit eating nook, living room with fireplace, and private patio cottage at the Cheshire Cat B&B! It also has a charger for our electric car. Hosts couldn’t have been better! Breakfast was delicious and the gardens are beautiful. We will definitely return!

Just back from a weekend trip to SB. Chose to stay here for the first time and was not disappointed. Located on Chapala, not too far from downtown and quieter than hotels on State St. Andrea met me out front, directed me to the parking which was conveniently in the back. I had the Tweedledee room which was large, bright, clean, and came with a mini-kitchen. After bringing back lunch, I enjoyed it eating outside in the courtyard under beautiful Oak trees. Andrea offered me a plate and anything I needed to enjoy lunch. She also packed some breakfast for me to go for my 7 am departure and met me outside with it. Couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Will definitely come back!

This is the first time that we stayed during the week which in our opinion was much better than the weekend. Less crowded in town. Our only disappointment was they have changed their policy of providing homemade shortbread on arrival in your room. The rooms are always spotless and very well appointed also it is wonderful to see the same staff every time you go. We have been staying at the Cheshire Cat for 30 years and along the way stayed in a couple of other places but always came back to the Cat.

We stayed in The Duchess room at The Cheshire Cat Inn for 2 nights in June as part of a road trip through California. All of the staff we came in contact with during our stay were friendly and helpful and the inn itself was clean and well located with ample private parking.
It's only a couple of minutes walk from State Street where all the shops and restaurants are and if you are feeling energetic, you can walk the whole way down State Street to Stearns Wharf or the beach. Our room, Duchess, was quiet, clean and spacious - comfortable bed, nice bathroom and everything we needed for our stay. The Molton Brown toiletries were great as it adds to the feeling of luxury.
Breakfast was served on the patio in the gardens (which have loads of seating areas and are a great place to relax - not that we had time to relax!). There is fresh orange, tea and coffee and yoghurt and granola followed by either pastries or a hot option. We liked that you could also help yourself to complimentary tea and coffee throughout the day in the lounge area. That was a nice touch.
There are many brilliant restaurants within a 5-10 minute walk from the Inn and the innkeepers were happy to provide recommendations when asked.

We were 10 days here,We booked a room but they were so kind to offer a little Cottage for use with much more space because We stayed for longer time than usually the Guests.
Every morning the breakfast was lovely, they make every morning something warm, and some option with cold Buffet.PS: the French Toast, what they did,was the best we ever had,it was so delecious, luckily we could have twice in this 2 weeks.
In the Afternoon's or let's say evening's between 5 pm and 6 pm They make some lovely Wine Tasting with some Canapès some Cheese and some tasty sour cream dipp with some veggies, with a nice atmosphere in the Dining Room.
Staff were really kind,we met with a lot of them, almost every morning an other Lady, but they were all kind and really Helpful with the Santa-Barbara activities.
Thank s a lot for everything
We would go back anytime from Europe.

A joy to be able to return to our favorite Santa Barbara home:). Although the Main House is still currently closed, our stay in the White Rabbit room was wonderful and we can’t wait to return again soon when a continental breakfast will also be included. The garden was a beautiful spot to enjoy the Santa Barbara sunshine and it was lovely to stroll State street now partially zoned for pedestrians with restaurants spilling out onto the street. Spring is in the air and a brighter 2021 ahead.

We had a magical stay in Santa Barbara and The Cheshire Cat was the perfect place to stay. The room was roomy and the bed was comfortable. The breakfasts were absolutely delicious! And the gardens are the perfect sanctuary in the late afternoon. After a day of sightseeing, it was the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine before we went out to dinner. The location was ideal for us…we are walkers, so we were able to walk to all the restaurants and shopping that State Street has to offer, the Funk Zone, Stearns Wharf, the Mission Santa Barbara and the beach. Every member of the staff was friendly and happy to offer suggestions of what to see, where to go and where to eat. I highly recommend!!

About 1.5 miles. Most folks take a taxi to the Inn because of their luggage. We are only 3 blocks from downtown, so walking around is easy.
We do have rooms with 2 beds, but those rooms are already booked for Sept. 13. We also have a 2 bedroom cottage that would work. Please check our web site or call the Inn for pricing and further information.
Depends on the day of the week, time of year and length of stay. Please check our web site for details.
Many of our rooms have their own refrigerator, and for the ones that do not, there is a one available in both houses for your use. The "Accommodations" tab on our web site, indicates which rooms have them, just click on "More Info" on the room of your choice. Also, please feel free to call is, and we will be glad to tell you which rooms have them.
