First off, nice-looking hotel. We used the valet parking/bellhop for luggage. Our first interaction with staff was very positive. Check-in was painless, quick & warm. Our room was very nice, clean and modern. Nice comfortable bed. Separate shower & tub. Quick hot water, no waiting, just a heads up. The swimming pool(on the roof with a great view) & bar were pleasant & again had nice staff. The restaurant was nice, with good options & nice staff. You can walk to the ocean easily or the multitude of restaurants and other points of interest in the downtown area. I would recommend this hotel without reservations.

We used our free IHG anniversary night to stay at this lovely property. Seamless valet ($20 if you have a hybrid), warm and friendly check in by Madison, who gave us an option of a couple different rooms, beautiful room on the fifth floor with a Juliet balcony facing the street (#511), pretty rooftop pool area and large separate terrace. Co-vid protocols followed, with all staff wearing masks, limits on the number of people on rooftop, and hand sanitizer available at numerous stations throughout the hotel. The hotel is a block from the shops and restaurants on State Street. Eric and Edwin at the front desk responded quickly to any requests. Really nice staff all the way around. Only issues were noise transference from adjoining room (we felt like we could have participated in the next door guest’s speaker phone conversation), the mattress or topper probably was ready for replacement in our room (a bit saggy), and bath towels could be plusher. Also it would be nice if you could buy something other than a ($9!) bag of chips with the $10 welcome gift provided to IHG reward members (i.e., typically overpriced hotel snacks). Next time I’ll opt for points. Complaints aside, we loved the hotel and had a wonderful time.

I absolutely loved the Kimpton Canary and was undoubtedly one of the highlights of my trip. The staff are an absolute delight, from checking in, to the restaurant and public spaces.

In the heart of Santa Barbara, the Kimpton Canary is full of character. We had a very warm reception and welcome with complimentary drinks.

My room was, a King Deluxe, was not especially big but very comfortable, with a high bed. The bathroom had a separate shower/bathtub with complimentary Atelier Bloem amenities. The rooms as well as the rest of the hotel had a very Mediterranean feel in their decor.

We enjoyed drinks at the Finch & Fork bar as well as dinner and breakfast. The food was exceptional. The staff were very friendly and attentive, particularly during dinner. At breakfast we found the team to be a little distracted, but the food was no less enjoyable.

The hotel also has a rooftop pool terrace with a small swimming pool, a bar and various lounge options. There is also a fireplace for the evenings. It’s a wonderfully relaxing space at any time of the day.

We were only here for a short stay and only wish we were staying longer. It’s a place I would very much love to return to. A great stay!

I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and absolutely loved it, so I was very excited to return this past Mother’s Day Weekend. I am sorry to say that the service has declined and our experience was not really what I was expecting.

Our service experience was very inconsistent. Tyler and Edwin at the front desk, and Austin at the valet were absolutely wonderful. Extremely friendly, helpful, and genuinely interested in ensuring that our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. On the other hand, we found Chandra at the front desk to be extremely unhelpful, and Eric, the night manager, to be surly, rude, and similarly unhelpful.

Though there were minor issues to start - before our arrival I asked Chandra for an extra refrigerator in the room for our infant and when we arrived there was no notation about it in our reservation and no refrigerator in our room - the real issue began a day into our stay. We called down to the front desk to request that our room be serviced, and Chandra informed me that due to “several call outs” no service was available. Chandra repeatedly told me she could have sheets and towels sent to my room, but that was the absolute most she could do. When paying $550 a night, I do not think it reasonable to be told there would be no service and I would need to change my own sheets. Edwin, the manager, graciously offered to refund one night’s stay and to have our room cleaned, which we did not expect but really appreciated.

We also found the service at Finch and Fork, the restaurant, though friendly, to be quite slow. For instance, I was told my Diet Coke (a can and cup of ice) would “take a while.” In fairness, I believe the restaurant must have recently opened to increased capacity and the staff seemed a bit overwhelmed.

Overall, the property is gorgeous, the location is great, and some of the people working at the hotel are fantastic. However, we were disappointed that our stay was somewhat marred by such an odd issue (I have never stayed at a hotel that was unable to clean my room before), Chandra’s general unhelpful nature, and Eric’s rudeness when asked basic questions regarding check out and our reservation at the property’s restaurant.

We will stay at the hotel again, but are a bit wary now!

We stayed at the Canary hotel four years ago for one night, and since then I have longed to go back, however on this second visit it failed to live up to the previous visit. The room we had this time was a good size, with the usual four poster bed, which was just as comfortable as before, however this time the room lacked the Juliet balcony and the bathroom seemed smaller and very dated. There really is no need for the tiny TV, which is in the way and is so old looking now, utilising this space for some shelving to accommodate toiletries would be better.
The staff too didn’t seem as attentive as before, with the exception of one of the valet guys.
Breakfast always seemed to be under staffed, where on both mornings there was no one to greet us as we walked in, which then leaves you to hang around uncomfortably deciding whether to seat yourself or wait for someone to finally come from out the back.
Also the terrace area, which was a wow factor for me last time, seemed in need of some TLC this time, with stained dirty seating.
All in all in was a very underwhelming experience this time, and if I had experienced this previously we wouldn’t have bothered coming back, especially as it is one of the higher priced properties in Santa Barbara.

Overall the hotel was nice for a short stay (we only booked 1 night) after staying 2 nights up in San Luis Obispo. We've now stayed at different hotels and understand each have their own policies regarding Covid; however, the services were very minimal. Coffee was available downstairs, but no coffee pot in any room. This was odd as our hotel in SLO included a nespresso machine with pods, water, and snacks. One of the elevators was down for the day, which was not a huge deal. The pool was lovely although no service at last the time we went. We made reservations for Sunday over the Labor Day week from 9am-11am as required, but once we got up to the pool around 10am there was no one checking-in. There were towels in a bin and seems like everyone just sat themselves. At that time the sun was blazing and plenty of room, so we didn't mind. Just seemed odd to have a system in-place without enforcing it? Our room included a corner balcony, which was nice and our two dogs enjoyed looking outside. The hotel is very dog friendly. Valet service very expensive $38 per night. Our hotel in SLO was $19 per night. I get it SB is different than SLO, but just outlining the price differences. My recommendation would be given the reduced amenities and service the prices should be adjusted to reflect such, but having no pet fees is nice.

Terrible stay with renovations going on. The pool and restaurant are closed. They offer room service but there is no where for two people let alone a family of 4 to sit in the room and eat. When we booked the room they said multiple hotels offered pool passes and this wouldn’t be a problem. When we checked in the hotel tells you to go to ResortPass.com to get pool passes. They don’t help with getting the passes and most of the hotels were sold out. Our room was on the 5th floor directly under the pool area that was under construction. During the day the noise was so loud you could not be in your room. I think they were jackhammering? We have two kids that take daytime naps and we’re not able to in the room due to the noise. They offered to move us, but we were with additional family members and they did not have 2 rooms on the same floor. At an average of $700/night this is completely unacceptable. I understand from the hotel that $700 was the discounted rate due to the closures and noise, but it was still completely ridiculous pricing. We should have stayed at the 4 Seasons that was only $900 night with a pool and restaurant.

Start with the positives: the staff were lovely and helpful and they were doing what they could during a pandemic to make our stay more enjoyable (like making reservations for the hot tub).

That said, for the amount I paid, the location was terrible (located right on a busy street corner). There was street noise (cars, people screaming) all night long. Hardy the peaceful beach vacation I was hoping for. Also, the décor was severely lacking (both literally and figuratively). There was one random chair by the window) and looked dated and disjointed (Spanish tile in the bathroom with attempts more modern aesthetic in the main room).

I would not stay here again.

The hotel is beautiful on the inside. Love the bar, and the restaurant is excellent! But, paying $375+ a night to stay in a room that faces a parkade or the road that is 150 feet from a fire station doesn’t cut it for me. Now, if you have a fat wallet, I would stay in one of the corner studios with a fabulous balcony..

There are better / more affordable options.

Our trip (babymoon) began with a rough start, but the staff at Kimpton more than made up for it. When we arrived it was just after 5pm. We had just driven from the Bay Area, so it was about a 5 hour trip. While checking in, we were told our rooms weren’t ready. At 5pm?!? Check in time was 4pm. There were a few other guests waiting as well...

The general manager Ben had let us know that there was a system error along with fully booked rooms from the night before which caused the delay. We were getting fairly impatient, especially after such a long drive and wanting to just settle in. With the wifey being pregnant, we really just wanted to get to our room and unwind.

When we were able to successfully check-in, Ben had let us know they would take care of us. We were further assisted by Kameron at the front desk - who not only made sure we were compensated (food credits, parking, etc) but was just genuinely thoughtful during our entire stay. Huge thanks, Kameron!!! Additionally, Madison reached out to us via text to make sure we had everything we needed. On day 2, we were surprised with macaroons and champagne (which we would bring home to enjoy at a later time).

Our room was perfect and the bed was comfy. We took the one with the little corner patio and it was perfect to lounge and enjoy coffee.

We’ve stayed at Kimptons before and we continue to come back because the service is always above and beyond. Thank you to the Kimpton Canary Hotel for keeping that reputation. We cannot wait to come back one day.
