First off, nice-looking hotel. We used the valet parking/bellhop for luggage. Our first interaction with staff was very positive. Check-in was painless, quick & warm. Our room was very nice, clean and modern. Nice comfortable bed. Separate shower & tub. Quick hot water, no waiting, just a heads up. The swimming pool(on the roof with a great view) & bar were pleasant & again had nice staff. The restaurant was nice, with good options & nice staff. You can walk to the ocean easily or the multitude of restaurants and other points of interest in the downtown area. I would recommend this hotel without reservations.

If your expecting a modern hotel this is not for you as it is a character hotel. Mexican styles, 4 poster bed, traditional bathrooms some may say dated but this is the character of the location. The pool deck was being refurbished but the pool was done during our stay and looks great. Valet staff friendly as were the reception team and this hotel is 1 steer away from the main promenade street in town

I have been to the Kimpton before for drinks, dinner, and even a private roof top dinner with a company event. I booked 2 rooms at the Kimpton, 1 premium room, and 1 suite. The pros - great location, quiet area, felt safe, lots of restaurants, coffee shops and other things steps away. The hotel has a daily happy hour where they offer free wine - cant go wrong. The cons - at checkin no care to actually describe the hotel or walk through details of the hotel. The rooms are dated, tho we were told all rooms have been renovated .. they were dusty, and not sure when the floors were last cleaned. Pro tip ask for slippers, and you will protect your feet, but those slippers are going to be dirty. We spent some time at the pool, there is no pool service, no way to get drinks, so essentially, you have to make your way down to the hotel, not convenient if you are wet. Lastly, I tried to order room service, restautant was not busy, but i was on hold for 10 minutes ..finally went downstairs, ordered from the room service menu that was on their website ... only to have the food arrive and it was different. Looks like the menu on the website has not been updated. Food was just okay... checkout was not any better, no care to ask how was they stay, or if we had any feedback. Overall, for the money spent, for 2 rooms, for 5 nights, there are way better options in and around santa barbara.

we went for a couples getaway , looking to splurge a little. But honestly it was just ok. Spent over $700 for one night stay after taxes etc, expected a little more. Supposedly got an AmEx upgrade, but not sure what that was, didn't notice anything different about our room. Two bottles of water for $10 each, really? Asked for extra towels, never got them. Bathroom needs major upgrades, TV in room kept scrambling / no signal, annoying when you are trying to relax and watch a movie. No view because currently under construction, so just had scaffolding outside window. Honestly, way too expensive for what it was. It was just "meh" for this price. Best part was location.

The people at the front desk and at the front entrance were all very nice and helpful. However the basic problems were numerous. The bed was so high that they had to remove the box springs to make it accessible to a normal person. Even then they had to provide a step stool. The side of the tub/shower was also very high and difficult to access. The in-room refrigerator did not work and had nothing in it. The restaurant Finch and Fork was good but they do not open until 8 am and 9am on the weekends. The reading chair was very comfortable but there was no side table at all. The room key provides elevator access the rooftop, which was lovely. The location in the center of town is the best reason to book a room here.

We stayed here for 4 nights the other week. It was wonderful and we'll definitely be back. I was hesitant at first given some of the reviews posted. However, staying here added a lot to our Santa Barbara Experience. The rooftop for one is beautiful. We enjoyed the views both day and night - and especially relaxing by the rooftop fireplace. We made use of the bikes around town - and golds gym right next door. The wine hour from 5-6 was very nice too - we enjoyed it in their renovated lobby that has a nice feel and several welcoming seating areas. The staff and valet were always friendly to us as we were coming and going. As ambassador members we had a nice special touch in our room. We also enjoyed breakfast/brunch in the restaurant every day - and the food was wonderful. My husband had some type of beef tip dish said it was his best meal of the trip! If you're considering staying here - don't hesitate - they seem to have improved!

I have always had great experiences at Kimpton hotels. The boutique quality has always been luxurious. Santa Barbara has been in my bucket list for years. I thought being in the heart of the city at a luxury hotel, would be worth the $600+ I paid per night to stay there. Definitely NOT. On the plus side, the rooms were clean and the beds and bedding were lovely. The room wasn’t crampt, but it was very tired. It had clearly been over a decade since it had been decorated. The rugs were frayed, the curtains and wallpaper faded. We were put on the street, facing an intersection. The balcony doors were also old and did not keep out any of the noise. Just our luck, construction was going on in the empty lot directly across the street from us by 8:00 am. When I asked the front desk if we could be moved to a quieter room, she said all their rooms faced the street. This actually was not true once I saw our friend’s room. There was very little done by the youngsters at the front desk to be helpful or even acknowledge the fact that I am an Ambassador with IHG, or that we really didn’t want our room. They really didn’t care. Very unprofessional. We did love the fruit infused water in the lobby, especially since the water in the room cost several dollars each. The coffee was good in the morning, though not well maintained for fullness or that the pumps even worked. Once again, the front desk didn’t care. The best part of the hotel is the restaurant attached. We had a fabulous dinner there. Later we read that it is one of the best in the city. We loved the milkshake for dessert and talked about the entire next day, then went back for another. We also went north to the Ritz for brunch. Very lovely. It was the same price as the Kimpton. I was kicking myself for not choosing it instead. There aren’t a lot of luxury hotels in the area with the Four Seasons closed. We keep reading that it will be opening this year. That will definitely be worth a trip back!

From the time I entered until my departure the attentiveness of the staff was superb. They were most generous with making sure I got to my room with my baggage and were watm and welcoming. I would especially like to point out Sebastian, Lucas, and Paul for their excellent service. The suite was well-appointed, beautiful, and had everything I needed. I loved I could cast from my phone to either TV.

The pictures of the rooms are nothing like the reality. I asked the front desk to put me in any room like the ones I see in the web site, and they assured me that those rooms don’t exist, that those photos are “general” and not of an actual room. Also, I arrived yesterday 12/21/22 at 8pm, dropped off my suitcases and had to immediately leave for an appointment. I noticed the room was nothing like what I had expected, but didn’t have the time to to talk to anyone. Came back at 11pm and was told that if I wanted to switch rooms (to another bad one) I would have to pay for both rooms the first night, since I had “already been in the room for a few hours”. So I am still in my claustrophobic suite, which has barely a window and it smells like glue, due to the construction on the floor above. I was told in advance that construction was done, except for a small area, which implied the hotel was renovated, but it’s super old, apparently one 3 rooms are renovated and, of course, they are booked. Do not recommend.

Leaving this review a few places in hopes someone from management sees it. Unfortunately I am really disappointed by this place. I booked it for my dad and his wife for 2 nights as a nice beach getaway for them since they just got married. Only to find out after arrival that the water would be shut off in the room from 10am-6pm the next day. When I called the front desk to ask for some sort of refund because the room was unusable for a full day, the receptionist first said "well they could use the water the first night" LOL as if you only need water once over a 2 day stay.. and I said well okay, but it's unusable today.... to which the receptionist said "well it's shut off for routine maintenance during 10-6 when most people are not in their hotel rooms" which I found to be a strange excuse because what if someone was planning to just stay at the hotel for most of the day and relax and use the amenities? Also my dad had a horseback ride in the morning and was hoping to go back to the hotel to shower in the middle of the day which seems very normal for people on vacation? So the receptionist said "they can get their money back for the second night if they check out today" -- so you're saying the "accommodation" is to say "if you don't like it you can leave"?? then I explained to her that I don't want them to have to switch hotels again, and they already made alternative plans for the afternoon... I explained I want to have some money back because if I had known the room didn't have water I would never have booked it. And then the receptionist said "well they were told when they checked in" LOL as if that's not too late at that point and you kind of put people in a bind and hope another hotel has availability? it makes no sense. Absurd conversation. It was very clear to me they intentionally did not disclose this water outage because they would lose out on guests who would not want to stay in a hotel with no water (obviously!) After going through that entire conversation the receptionist finally gave me 50% off the second night, which I said fine to. Still have to give 1 star tho, unfortunately! Won't book again.
