The management has clearly acted on the previous horrendous reviews as the motel is currently being completely-albeit gradually-renovated.
Our room had a contemporary, newly installed bathroom;unfortunately the shower was very cold. This & the weak Wi-Fi signal were the only negative aspects of our stay. The bedroom was also newly decorated in a tasteful & attractive style.
We asked for a microwave and one was provided immediately;likewise a blanket was provided on request.
The flowers in the garden are gorgeous.
Once all the rooms and balconies have been renovated & all evidence of building work removed I believe this motel will be excellent.

This place has only one good pro, the position, close to the bus station and close to the amazing trail for hiking.
My plan was to spend at least 3/4 days in Santa Barbara but I had booked only 2 nights in this place just in case was horrible as a previous one and I made a good decision, dirty and dirty, noisy and in spite was no smoking I found cigarettes everywhere and people up and down from the stair loudly every time of the night.
I was not bothered by the homeless because their life is already hard enough and did not bring any bother.

There is damage to the walls and floor. The shower barely got hot and the shower head is at about 5'6" off the floor. The walls are paper thin and I could hear everything the neighbors were doing. The door has a deadbolt, but looks like it could be kicked in with little trouble. At least the bed appeared clean and was warm.

First the mini fridge was not cleaned and had crumbs in it. At night I ran the a/c which was right by the bed and in the morning there was black lint all over my bed. The first night the party upstairs was loud and I called the front desk who asked them to quiet down. The next night I was woken up by loud music and what sounded like dancing from the upstairs room again. It was midnight and it took the manager screaming at them for about 15 minutes to get them to leave and drive away in their cars. I told the front desk in the morning I was leaving what happened and asked for the manager. She said it was her but there was nothing she could do. I asked for the owners name which she said was Ted and I left two messages and he never called me back. Gabby said I could have a $20 credit but I still have not received this. I lived in Santa Barbara for 22 years and go back often. This was the worst stay I have ever had and it was definitely not worth what I was charged.

So disappointed! Never told me they were remodeling. All the trash from the other rooms was RIGHT outside my door. GROSS! No coffee maker. One mini bar of soap. And whats with the 'packet' of shampoo. Couldn't even supply a bath mat. Or an extra blanket for the bed. Traveling as a solo female, I did not feel comfortable staying at this hotel. Paid way to much a night for so little. They're attempt at putting a band-aid on this property is going to make the place any better.

Avoid this motel at all costs. The floor was filthy. The closet door was missing, there was an ironing board with no cover and no iron. The toilet seat was worn down to the wood. The sheets smelled like cigarettes and the mattress had mysterious brown stains. The baseboards were falling off the walls and the walls had strange dirty stains. The wall sockets looked like they had caught on fire. There were piles of stored materials on the property covered for rain or weather- this place is an utter disaster.

My family was going to Carmel from San Diego, so we decided to find cheap lodging on the way up there. On the internet I saw an advertisement for rooms at the Hacienda Motel for $49. The website didn't look too bad, so I went to TripAdvisor to see if anyone had written a review. Unfortunately, no one had. I called the number, and talked to someone with an accent. I said, "Is your property like a Motel 6?" He said, "We're much better than a Motel 6." With that reassurance, I booked our room (at at rate of $59 - just a little more expensive than the midweek rate at the Motel 6).

My mistake was going through with the reservation when I caught sight of the property. It is one of those dingy looking motels that needs a paint job, a lot of elbow grease, and a thorough makeover. Right away I knew the Motel 6 would have been a MUCH better bet. It was late, though, so I decided my family could spend the night. BIG mistake. The room's interior was awful. The wallpaper was torn, fixtures askew, tiles missing, electric plates broken or absent. In the bathroom were two threadbare towels, and the smallest cake of soap imaginable. The toilet was cycling, and did so all during our stay.

The only plus to be found in the accommodation was cable TV with HBO.

As bad as the room was, we figured it was no big deal, as we would sleep and then be on the way. Little did we know that the room would conspire against anyone sleeping. The street noise was bad, and in no way mitigated by the ceiling fan. What was far worse, though, were the pipes. We heard every groan, crack, movement. A poltergeist couldn't have made more noise. I am no plumber, but something has to be done to make this motel bearable. The noise from the pipes is truly awful.

We have stayed at other Santa Barbara hotels and motels, from reasonably priced to luxury. If you're looking for much better value for the buck, stay at the Pepper Tree Inn (or even the Motel 6).

If you want to sleep, do not go to this motel. They would have to pay me next time to stay there.

I had read the bad reviews on this site about the Hacienda Motel, but decided to try it anyway. The website looked ok and I was in need of somewhere cheap to stay. When I got there I kept in mind all the bad things I had read about the place and made sure to check out everything right away.

The room was decent, clean but not great. I saw no major flaws. The furniture looked like it was just thrown in there. The cabinet for the tv was crooked and slightly in front of the mirror, the lamp shades were all slanted, and one had no bulb.

The bed was not good. Very uncomfortable both of us had sore backs in the morning. Although the bedding seemed to be very clean and fairy new.

The bathroom was far below average. The floor was pretty dirty around the perimeter, the soap too small, and no shampoo which was a bummer. The water pressure was terrible and the temperature was difficult to adjust. I seemed to get only very hot or very cold. Nice big mirror and cabinet space to put my things.

Only major problem was that our power went out twice. Once when we used the microwave and once with the hairdryer. Both occasions the staff was very helpfull and took care of it within minutes.

I wouldn't say it was a horrible place to stay, but i'm sure i'll be trying somewhere else next time.

My husband and I stayed there one night and we would have been better off at a Motel 6. Upon arrival I found they had cancelled my reservation. The man at the desk explained that they had tried to call me to confirm and since I did not return the call they cancelled. Come to find out they had the wrong phone number. After almost having a melt down they did find us a room. We dropped our luggage in the room and left for dinner with family. Upon returning about 9:30 we found no parking and the office that was supposed to be open until 11:00 was closed. We ended parking across the street at Denney's and prayed our car would not be towed. I went to shower and found one towel. Tried calling the office and of course no answer. The headboard was not attached to the bed and every time one of is moved it banged against the wall. The bathroom window would not close and thankfully we were on the 2nd floor. At 2:30 a.m. a bunch of drunk collage kids were outside our door yelling and laughing and of course there was no one to call. Do not stay here....it is old, dirty and smells. I wish I had read the reviews more carefully,

Got in very late after a long drive. There were no vacancies anywhere else. I guess that should have explained it. I got "the last room" with a queen for me, my wife and three year old. As one of the other reviews states, there was a huge hole in the wall with a second fridge trying to cover it. I could literally hear the bugs crawling around in the hole and munching. The carpet was so dirty I put my son on the bed and never let him get down. The wife and I wore flippers the whole time. After ripping off the comforter to set the kid down, we pulled the sheets back and there were dirty smashed booger filled tissues between the "clean" sheets along with the occasional private area curly hair.

Well what would you do after driving from Phoenix and getting in at 1:30am? We had a down throw and we all shared it along with our own pillows thankfully. There were noisy low lifes in and out all night. The only way to deal with the extreme urine odor was to leave the windows open, this is not something I would suggest to most people but I always carry a handgun in my luggage (yes even in California). We got up only five hours later of horrible sleep and bailed. I ripped the owner a new one and asked for my money back or a discount but he couldn't care any less. I am contesting the charges to American Express just for the point of it!
Honestly people, it was so bad I am buying a travel trailer so I never make that mistake again.

Please heed the warnings! I wouldn't let my dogs sleep on this motels floor!
