I had generally been looking forward to Mar Monte, seeing as how it’s listed as a 4 star hotel on the beach. But the truth is, the lack of service, disgusting conditions of the room, and dated appearance made it quite disappointing. Of the two rooms I booked, Room A had stained sheets and stains all over the carpets. It was also immediately against the parking lot, dark and dated. Felt like a cheap motel. Room B was the same, ignoring my Hyatt profile preferences for a high floor. As I’m a light sleeper cars were literally parked up close to the window, I requested to be moved. The second room was at least not on top of the parked cars but was not cleaned. There was someone’s leftover catering in the room and blood stains in the carpet by the door. I brought this to the front desk that evening and the response I received was appalling “that’s super random, I can go pick up the tray with you now.” It was only when I went back with someone else at the front desk, that I finally had an appropriate response where they moved me to my now third room for a three night stay. That room had a lovely ocean view, but still felt dated for what’s being marketed as a 4 star resort. Along the way, the every day service was terrible - following up multiple times with the front desk or the cleaning folks for things. For some reason they don’t clean the rooms every day. The valets were eager to drive the car but never seemed to listen - eg “don’t park the car yet, I’m just checking in and my luggage is still there” but then the car already is being moved or “please have the car ready at 11am,” but then having to wait because it’s not out front at that time and there’s a queue of people waiting for the valet. Quite disappointing. Won’t be staying there again.…
Just had a perfect stay. The front desk agent Dylan who welcomed and appreciated my Hyatt Globalist status tried hard to find best possible upgrade options and also explained elite benefits in details - all done w/o asking. In addition, basically every staff member that I encountered was all friendly, professional, and polite - from Cafe Lido servers, Costa hosts and bartender, and valet attendants! It looked to be a quite busy weekend, but they all kept friendly atmosphere. It was a nice weekend and enjoying ocean view while sitting on the balcony was great. Cannot wait for returning again!
Staff was very courteous and attentive to my needs. The cleanliness of the facility was on point, and the view of the ocean across the street is worth the stay. Restaurants and shops are convinitely located minutes away.
Stayed here as a party of 3 - 2 adults and 1 child. This was just a 1-night stopover as part of a road trip from LA to San Francisco and, like so much of this part of California, is somewhere I'd have loved to have stayed in longer. The hotel is well located in what is quite a big city with a gorgeous mountain backdrop and all palm trees, beaches and pacific waves out front. It's done in the Mexican colonial style and is done very well with a small lobby area and then several blocks of rooms all over 2 floors stretching along the coast. Our room was good; spacious, clean, well equipped and with super comfy beds and bedding. There was a pool apparently and lots of outdoor seating with fire pits and stuff. We spent 16 days in the states traveling all over and Santa Barbera and this hotel was one of the places I regretted leaving so soon. Can't say better than that really.…
We booked a four star hotel and this is not four star - probably 2!! After checking out of a 4 star hotel in Santa Monica and driving up to Santa Barbara we were very disappointed with our room! It was like something from the 1980’s !! We were shoved in a room at the back of the hotel. There was no soap in the bathroom (covid regs and all that) , no hairdryer, air conditioning unit from the 1970’s, TV didn’t work properly…… Carpet and furniture was shocking. The 4 star in Santa Monica was a boutique, up to date and we had paid the same !!! To be honest if we had not had already paid we would have gone elsewhere! The reception area is ok and gives you a false perception of what you are going to get! Rooms need badly renovating and bringing up to date !!
Unless you have an ocean view this is a poor choice for a hotel. It is old, not as in quaint, but as in old. Nice staff. Clean rooms. Location requires an uber to go anywhere. Add in the $30+ night for parking and it makes everything quite expensive.
Checked in very late night around 9:30PM. Kept the baggage and went out side for food and came back around midnight. Noticed that the bed sheets and comforters were not clean on both queen beds. When I complained about the issue while checking out, they offered me to waive valet parking fee but they send the invoice with valet parking fee. I waited for few days and called back then they said they missed it and reversing the parking fee immediately. Writing this review after 3 days and no reversal of parking charges. Can't believe that the front office offer was lie on top of that no clean beds when checked in.
Having spent a lot of money for 2 rooms for a one night stop we wanted a quality nights sleep. We retired and were met with a herd of elephants above us with Bronski Beat pumping. We thought it was a bar but no it was a room where people had invited their friends in for a gathering. We rang reception twice to have a word and the music did get turned down but the hoofs still carried on tapping. An old hotel living on an old reputation with no soundproofing between floors. Sadly it’s a no from us as we didn’t get what we wanted and paid for .A good nights sleep .
As someone who travels regularly for work and pleasure, the management at this hotel (namely, EJ) helped sort out some of my billing peculiarities in such a helpful manner it is worth highlighting on its own. The property is beautiful, classic Santa Barbara charm, and the location across from the beach is perfect. The dining could be improved upon, but everything else was splendid. Highly recommend.
Vastly overpriced. Rooms not services on time and properly. Pool area full of non guests drinking their own beer. No closet in room for 4 people. $40 for valet parking and no self park available! No towels at the pool for hours!
