The Good: Front desk check-in was pleasant enough. The property has been updated both exteriorly and interiorly. The decor is tasteful and culturally appropriate in reference to the location. The view from the front of the hotel is lovely. The Bad: Beds, pillows and bedding were uncomfortable. The walls are paper thin and the rooms are cramped. With the money spent to update this property, it would have been advisable to make the sleeping experience as enjoyable as the general aesthetic guests experience when arriving to the motel itself. Mattresses were hard, pillows were uncomfortable and the sheets were a few thread counts away from being shelter bedding. We could hear conversations of both guests on each side of our room from the moment they arrived until the moment they fell asleep. Children continued to ride their scooters up and down the hallway which their parent's should have kept from happening in the first place. The Ugly: The nightly rate that H%t*ls.com squeeze played us into...After failing to inform us that the booking we originally had was no longer available due to the property itself, The _____ Tree Inn being closed since DECEMBER. We had to pay $475 a night for the Motel 6. We came up for business appointments that could not be rescheduled. Otherwise, we would have driven nearly 4 hours home instead. Due to the holiday weekend and Valentine's Day, we had no choice. Hold time to resolve this concern with them was incomprehensible and we were squeeze played into choosing the proverbial lipstick on the pig property. Don't get me wrong, if this properties daily rate was $100 a night, it would be worth it. You get what you pay for which explains why I always try to stay in 3.5 plus star properties. Unfortunately, this is a Motel 6 and through the decades continues to be a motel and not a hotel. We chalked up the experience as a challenge and a reminder that being fortunate enough to do business in the beautiful city of Santa Barbara regardless of the accommodations is an overall positive experience. If you are going to stay here and plan on walking to city center, make sure you travel E. Cabrillo Blvd to get to the pier or State Street. DO NOT TAKE THE INTERIOR ROUTE AT NIGHT to get to your destination. It's dangerous and full of junky and homeless opportunists that will take advantage of the empty commercial and dim lit streets that surround the area in between the Motel 6 property and the Funk Zone. This advice is coming from someone who went to college in South Central LA and worked on the South Side of Chicago. Cabrillo is safe but the interior streets are not. DO NOT PUT YOURSELF IN THAT COMPROMISING POSITION.

I've haven't stayed at a Motel 6 in 20 years. This one caught our eye for a weekend trip due to the mid century off brand standard decor. Cute little spot, 1 block from beach. Newly renovated, can't go wrong. Would definitely recommend staying here if you want to spend way less than $200 per night.

Customer Safety is Important! An automobile arrived on Motel 6 property with stereo blasting inside the car! An incident occurred that needed a night desk clerk's attention, but he was asleep when I called phone rang 20 times- a sleepy person answered. My room is next door to office. (2) men wanted to check in at 3:15am knocking at lobby door -locked, they said, "hello several times". Tired hearing of noise asked them to keep noise down, they said, trying to check in not going to sleep in the car, and mind my own business and close my window". A few minutes later, both men were standing at my front window trying to make a reservation with raised voices. I open my door and said, I spoke to the night clerk and he should be opening the door and move away from my window. However, when the desk clerk finally answered the phone,I told him men were outside making noise and wanted a reservations, they woke me up, flight leaves in a few hours. After, 4am they finally checked in, they parked in the front of motel a few doors down from my room. The (2) men moving into motel room were very noisy and talking loud. I called the front clerk to ask him to tell them to lower the noise. " front desk clerk said to me, " you can ask them to be quiet", I said, I did twice now. It, appears, night clerk didn't want to be bothered and wanted to go back to sleep. That evening, message left with evening shift desk clerk to Have Ron General Manager to call me because upset, he was suppose to return at 6:30pm. Ron never called me back to discuss. During check out I did tell the day crew what happened, General Manager gets in at 9:30am they said. I am filing a complaint with cooperate office, unsure if I want to return again to this Motel 6. I booked a 7 night stay and 8/31 was check out. The desk clerk is suppose to be awake that is my complaint and his disrespectful attitude to guest. Customer safety and well being is important! This hotel is in an excellent location just a block from the beach. The rooms have recently been remodeled and are decorated in a retro theme. It was really cute. Friendly staff. Great price. Comfortable bed. Clean room. Good area.

Paid almost $100 with taxes but only with the pandemic and streets empty. Found a food truck a few blocks away. Looked at the rates in the future and they go up to $300 which is not a value for the size you get. This is the smallest Motel Six room we have ever stayed in. Not very good feeling knowing past guests can have cats in rooms with dogs. Why such tiny rooms? It is alright for one person or Europeans who are used to this room size. Also, we were quire surprised at the amount of homeless people in the area. Would I stay here again. Probably not just due to the small size. Nice bathroom!
