we reserved this hotel by mistake, thinking i was reserving another one i had stayed at before... when i realized, we asked to see the rooms before checking in... they are ugly. they smell strong. lighting is bad. windows are dirty and do not open. area rugs look very worn out and dirty.... the nice guy at check in could not refund the money, so we decided to throw away those $300 and go to a better place... this one is not worth the money!!! it was an expensive lesson, but worth every penny

Hotel Santa Barbara’s lobby is wonderfully decorated, it gives a very good first impression as you first enter the hotel. Front desk employees were welcoming, and the check in process was quick. Valet parking is at the rear of the hotel. Our bellman, Levy, was helpful and friendly. This is an old but well maintained hotel, the sole elevator is tiny but we encountered no major problem. Our beautiful room is small but adequate for me and my wife. Bed and pillows were comfortable. Bathroom is updated, with better than average amenities. Sadly the cable tv was not working, I was informed that the cable company was doing some maintenance work. In my opinion, the flat screen tv size is small in these day and age. Hotel is located a walking distance away from many restaurants, bars and specialty stores. The AmTrak train station is only a few city blocks away from this hotel and the beach just a couple of blocks more. The downtown area where this hotel is located has clean streets, clean sidewalks but this city has problem with homeless people so the faint smell of urine is noticeable. I will definitely consider staying in this hotel again next time I visit Santa Barbara, California.

My husband and I stayed at this property for 3 nights in a King Room. We stayed in late July 2021. Total with taxes was 1,307.84. We stayed at this hotel because of the location. It was not the greatest place to stay but we had to make a quick decision because it was kind of last minute (a few days prior to booking the room). Pros-as mentioned...location. Customer service is fine. Our room was pretty quiet and clean. They have complimentary coffee in the morning and flavored water in the afternoon. Toiletries were okay. The room had a flat screen TV, free wireless access, writing desk (although no stationary or pens), Keurig coffee maker and a mini-fridge.Also-a small business area in the lobby. It was a pretty safe neighborhood in my opinion. Cons-our bathroom was very small. Reminded my of some bathrooms in Europe because of the size. When we checked in we were told that they would not make your bed due to "COVID-19" restrictions or however they worded their statement. I was not told about this prior to booking the room......Housekeeping will clean up though. Other cons: No restaurant at the hotel. Although there are plenty around the area. Another complaint is that I made it a point to state that the reason my husband and I went to holiday in Santa Barbara was because of his birthday. Nothing mentioned at all when we checked in. Hmmmm...not even a cheap birthday card in the room? Okay, I guess they do not care about attention to detail. Also-I asked for extra towels and soaps..walked in the room and no-they did not grant my request. Would I return? No-I don't feel like I should make my own bed when I am on holiday. Plus this hotel is overpriced. I work very hard and feel that I deserve better when I want to relax. Advice-if you arrive to Santa Barbara via Amtrak..it is only about a 20 minute walk to the hotel. Also-a lot of restaurants and shops close early.

I was really torn between three hotels in Santa Barbara. Hotel Santa Barbara had good reviews except for the elevator. Needless to say, the elevator worked just fine but I took the stairs being on the second floor. I can not begin to say how pleased I was. The location worked out perfect for us. We walked easily to the beach and never left State Street for dinner or drinks. Parking your car was reasonable $. Lobby was so charming. Room was very comfortable. Bed and mattress super comfortable. Bathroom updated. No complaints. CA has a serious homeless population so I would recommend being in by 9 at the latest. Santa Barbara was not bad numbers wise but it is evident. Sorry. But outdoor dining, live bands and fun bars were all close. I could not have been any happier with my choice.

Perfect location to walk to bars and restaurants. Our room was clean with basic amenities. The staff was courteous and helpful. The elevator was not working but I didn't mind. Parking was available and safe.
