The Montecito Inn's appeal lies in its excellent location, with guests enjoying the proximity to beaches and local attractions. While the hotel's atmosphere charms with quaint features, some guests have called out the need for updates, particularly in the rooms which are often found to be small and dated. Noise can be a concern for many travelers, citing construction and traffic as disruptive. Service receives mixed reviews, ranging from warm and attentive to occasionally lackluster. Cleanliness is generally well-regarded, though opinions on value and amenities show room for improvement.

Stayed four nights and enjoyed being in an area good for walking. Several restaurants nearby and about 15 minute easy walk to butterfly beach area. Restaurants in area include several nice breakfast and lunch spots with sidewalk and patio seating as well as indoor. Several restaurants are high end and very expensive for dinner.

We had a room with two queen beds and were surprised to find two small bathrooms! The room was very clean so I was surprised to see a review about a dirty room. The room was also made up early in the day so it was always fresh when we got back around lunch time.

The hotel is quite close to 101 so I understand the comments on noise. Our room was ok, as long as we kept the windows closed. There is quiet and efficient a/c in the rooms. Lobby area is a series of small rooms with some comfy seating and a place for coffee/ tea and ice water 24/7. Good selection of tea bags and choice of ceramic or paper cups.

Bath amenities are very good quality and there are soft nice robes. Towels are soft and bath size is big.

Valet parking only.

Bus stop right outside and a cvs nearby in case you forgot something.

Staff very welcoming and friendly.

Old elevator is fun.

Highly recommended.

You know: there’s Santa Barbara (classy, refined beach town) and then there’s Montecito (even classier and more refined, which is hard to imagine until you see it), and the Montecito Inn matches the location.

This is an historic, European-style hotel with a unique identity, which means charming and intimate, which means smaller rooms and baths, and all you need to know beyond that is are the rooms quiet (yes), the beds good (yes, very comfortable), how’s the water pressure (good, and hot), what the other guests are like (well behaved), and how’s the service (sensitive and effective).

Very clean, well maintained property. All Covid protocols in place.

They charge for parking, which I normally dislike, but you don’t come to Montecito to count your pennies. Anyway, overnight street parking isn’t viable here, so you might as well make the best of it. (Valet or self-parking is the same amount: all safe and secure behind walls.)

Some tips: Butterfly Beach (feels like a private beach) is an easy 3-4 blocks walk west, just go out the lobby door onto Coast Village Road, make a right onto Olive Mill Road and look for the Pacific. A very discrete CVS is located across the street from the hotel (you have to look for it it’s so unobtrusive). Their restaurant, Coast and Olive, has a terrific, innovative menu.

I’d stay here again, no question.

Tower suite: room smelled, bedlight flickering at high setting, bathtub wouldn't fill because outlet gasket was broken, the window mutes noise from the freeway not very much.
Note: it is strange that despite enough space for a king bed, this suite had only a narrow queen bed.
When front desk was contacted another suite was offered in exchange via telephone due to the faulty room. When we went to exchange the keys we were requested to pay another 30 $ for the upgrade to another suite. We declined unsatisfied for the lack of coordination and opted for a standard room with a king bed.
The soap dispencer in the toilets (men and women) at the reception provided only very very slowly a small drop of soap, which is unacceptable during the current Corona crisis

Overall, very disappointed. There wasn't just one thing, it was EVERYTHING. Rooms were NOT as pictured. It was like a dark dungeon with a jail bathroom with fancy outdated tile. Temperature controls in the room did not work. There wasn't even a blanket or comforter on the bed, just scratchy sheets. There was absolutely NO bottled water, soap or ANYTHING in the room, the staff claimed it was because of COVID....which is clearly an excuse because soap is the #1 most essential thing to help keep guests safe.

We valeted our car and when we went to retrieve it in the morning to leave, the front desk just handed us the keys and literally said "it's somewhere in the garage"...ummm, what? Thanks?

I totally understand changes and restrictions are necessary but this hotel is clearly using it as an excuse to cut corners and costs. On this same trip, we stayed in four other hotels around Santa Barbara, each went above and beyond to make guests feel welcome, safe, and that they weren't "missing out". The Montecito Inn felt like an extremely overpriced stay at a cheap motel. Won't be recommending to clients. Won't stay here in the future. Which is a shame because the location couldn't be better!

We have stayed here twice. It is easy to walk to restaurants in Montecito Village. The hotel is a historical landmark and was built in the 1920’s.
The room you get really will affect your impression of the hotel because if you are on one side of the property your room is on a freeway on-ramp. Because it is old, the walls of the rooms are thin. If you are on the second floor like were, prior to being moved at 1am, you will hear a kitchen fan below.

The rooms are really small due to the age and the bathroom is a closet. It is 5x6. The reduced flow shower heads suck. It will take you twice as long to take a shower. In our bathroom, the individual shower valves for hot and cold were reversed. On valve had no calking so the cover between the wall and the valve had a gap. The AC smelled mildew because they apparently never change the filters. The room decor is like a Best Western, except you get no free breakfast and they charge $15 a night for parking and if you bring a dog, it will cost you $150. The pool is like one you’d find at an apartment complex

My conclusion: this is a $150-200 a night hotel. The rooms are subpar. There is deferred maintenance. Rooms in SB are expensive. But there are better options. Take the better options and drive to Montecito

Don’t be fooled…
I booked way in advance for a wedding and was promised a room with a view.
We got to our pocket sized room that was beyond Claustrophobic with only one window in the corner and our view was of the freeway, awful and also loud and very unpleasant with our window open or closed.
The sheets were rough and all balled up and the comforter had rock hard knots in it most likely from how it’s been washed, also incredibly unpleasant.
The toilet is extra low. The shower is TINY with only a tiny soap dish to hold any products/toiletries.
The cabinet where the tv sits and mini fridge is stored is worn/broken. The only soap offered is a face bar, I recommend bringing your own hand soap because it takes ages to wash off.
This may sound picky but I came here in the best of moods and appreciated the lobby etc… when I called to ask about being overcharged because NO ONE informed me that the incidentals charge was $150 (which is fine but I was not notified via email or in person) I inquired politely about being promised a view and she told me my room was not noted, I also asked if all the rooms were this small *see commentary below* she stated that they have suites but they are sold out as she just dismissed anything being not right!

*It is very difficult to maneuver around in the room and feels like a prison cell literally!

BEYOND DISAPPOINTMENT… Very sad as we had planned to book a returning visit here for leisure/vacation when not on a schedule for a wedding.

Staff are very friendly and accommodating. The Inn is in a very good location with plenty of restaurants nearby, which was handy as the Inn's restaurant and bar was closed.
The rooms are small and so is the bathroom (quaint), however there is a vintage characteristic with the place. The wooden floors are quite noisy, particularly with late night arrivals. The so called breakfast option was very limited in choice.
Overall nice hotel that should rate 3 star.

Can't beat the price of the Montecito Inn relative to the Biltmore (closed), Miramar ($3k+) and SYR ($3k+)... but you can beat the rooms / quality of the facilities and, in particular, the bathrooms. I stayed in a room with 2 bathrooms (only needed one) but both were basically on the main second floor hallway and only separated by single pane of frosted glass. Everything, and I mean everything, in my bathroom was basically visible to other guests as they walked by my room. The volatility in water pressure and temp in the shower was also a big issue. Management was not interested in engaging or acknowledging the issue. Bummer - I would have gone back a lot had it worked out.

I feel like boutique hotels at this price point are rare in the US- most of the time we stay in Marriots and Hyatts that all feel the same. The Montecito Inn is unique. It has history and charming vibe, but is also comfortable, cozy and conveys a level of luxury. Location is fantastic- just 8 min walk from Butterfly Beach which is fantastic for morning runs and evening sunset watching. The Inn is right on Coast Village Road with some of the best cafes and restaurants. We couldn't avail of the amenities due to covid, so cannot speak to those. Hotel staff was friendly and welcoming, and the hotel kept strict standards of cleanliness.

The hotel has someone staffing the front desk at all hours. I have found throughout my various stays that hotels are conscious of all the factors that effect arrival times and are willing and able to accommodate a late check-in. Therefore, I don’t foresee any problem with arriving late. I recommend calling them that day if you are worried. They’ve got a great restaurant at the hotel and a couple more great restaurants and bars within walking distance. Enjoy your stay!
