The 1800’s house is charming with lovely decor. The grounds are beautifully groomed with green grass, trees, flowers and ferns. Staff was friendly and helpful. We received a complimentary bottle of wine and hors d’ oeuvres plate on arrival plus a plate of delectable cookies. A delicious breakfast was served on our private balcony. This is a slice of heaven in Santa Barbara.
Just had a wonderful weekend at the Simpson House. We had a party of 10, and rented 5 of the rooms. All were exceptionally appointed. Breakfast was delicious and set out and served beautifully right outside our room. The staff was incredibly helpful and we could not recommend this hotel more. Location was excellent; within walking distance to everything.
We stayed at the Simpson House in early June. The setting, with the beautiful gardens and sound of fountains, is a delightful sensory experience, imbuing one with a sense of peace and relaxation. The service is exceptional (with a few minor nubs mentioned at the end) - as soon as we stepped out of our taxi someone was there to greet us, show us around, take us to our room and have an appetizer platter delivered. And on the day of our departure, when our flight was delayed, we were graciously allowed a late check-out (subject to availability), and served glasses of ice tea to sip as we waited for our taxi to the airport. The location was great - we walked all over and made a day out of strolling along the long promenade, stopping for lunch, massages, and pedicures, all the way to the beach to go shopping at the Marina. Room for improvement: upon checking in, we informed the representative that my daughter had an early appointment the next morning, and asked if it would be possible for her to eat breakfast early, at around 6:30 am. We were told to just knock on the kitchen door in the morning, ask the Chef for breakfast, and he would make up some granola and fruit or something. So we did, and the Chef seemed put-out. He said we needed to put in our order the day before. When I explained we were told he could provide some granola or fruit or something, he asked for the person's name who told us this, and did put together a beautiful platter with these items and a delicious fresh-baked muffin. It worked out okay, but was a bit awkward and we'd have preferred if our request had been communicated the day before. The second issue was that while the bathroom was done up in a beautiful manner and seemed clean at first glance, when you opened the shower you found it was dirty. There was a yellowing bathmat rolled up inside, and clumps of lint-like dust from a nearby vent on the floor, and hair on the walls. We noticed it in the morning before going out for the day and told the maid as we were leaving but I don't think she understood as the shower was still dirty when we returned in the evening. I called the reception desk and the person answering the phone said there was nothing she could do because the house-cleaners were long gone. She asked if we could just wash the debris down the drain. So we did. My daughter cleaned the shower as best she could without cleansers so we could use it. The issues I've mentioned did seem like anomalies, given the overall exceptional level of service. We were staying in the smallest room - the Mary Simpson - with the bathroom across the hallway, and perhaps these types of small mishaps do not occur if you stay in the larger rooms or cottages on the grounds. I would not normally return to a place with a dirty shower, but it was so out of synch with everything else we experienced, I assume it was just a weird lapse that will be corrected. Overall, the Simpson House is a beautiful place with gracious service and we had an enjoyable stay.…
Although pricey, this Bed & Breakfast was perfection in every way! When we arrived we were met by Karen who showed us to our "cottage" and went over all the details. She also provided us with names of restaurants within walking distance which were wonderful! She could not have been more welcoming! The room was spotless with all the conveniences you would have at home and the grounds were lush and beautiful. Breakfast on the veranda was delicious and the service was prompt and attentive. I wish we could've stayed for a month!!
I have stayed at several bed and breakfasts throughout California, and the Simpson House Inn has been my best experience by far. The grounds are exquisite, our room was spacious and clean. We were welcomed with local baked goods, chocolate covered strawberries, a charcuterie board, and a bottle of wine. There was also a menu to choose our breakfast with options for fruit, oatmeal, a main egg option, pastries, and drinks. We were in the Carriage Room, which had a fireplace, large tub, and spacious bedroom and living room area. I can’t wait to come back and try one of the other rooms. Highly recommend!
