This property is absolutely stunning and the inn is so charming. There are so many peaceful and private places to sit and relax. We were very impressed with the multi-course breakfast. The staff was so friendly and hospitable. We would definitely stay here again.
We stayed in this hotel on our 20th wedding anniversary trip driving the Pacific Coast Highway. The house is beautiful and the gardens amazing. The cheese and wine evening was delightful. The disappointing aspects were that the shower was almost impossible to use. It was a shower over a bath A notice asked you to draw the curtain around the bath before turning on the shower as the old floorboards could get damaged. This meant you got freezing cold water on you head and there was absolutely nowhere to put shower gel / shampoo etc. The house is old 1874 but I have lived in houses 100 years older and it is possible to update a bathroom! We paid $10 to have our breakfast delivered to our balcony on the first morning. It was stone cold. The toast came with no butter or jam and was very disappointing. The second day we ate in the breakfast room to avoid the same thing happening. As breakfast was included we were astonished to be presented with an invoice to add a gratuity! We got a turn down service on night one but they left all the towels on the floor and we had to ask for more. The full bin wasn’t emptied. We just got a chocolate left on our pillow. The second night there wasn’t a turn down service!! All in all at £350 per night I was disappointed and will avoid in future…
This was an expensive splurge for my wife and I but it was worth it. The grounds are immaculate and beautiful, the location is in a pleasant residential neighborhood, and the small cottage we stayed in on the grounds (with a wood-burning fireplace) was as cozy and charming as could be. We arrived in late afternoon just in time for wine and a wide assortment of appetizers, all of which were good. And in the morning had an incredible three-course breakfast on the front porch overlooking the garden. All together a very positive experience that we would highly recommend if you can handle the cost.
It's like going back into time where life had a more relaxing, upscale feel. The grounds are incredible..you can just sit on any chair and feel so relaxed. You just be. The porch is so great especially when they serve their delicious breakfast...unlike anything offered at most places. Throughout the day, there are homemade scones and lemonade...such a nice refreshing treat/amenity. The rooms do send you back in time a bit but impeccably done. If you're as fortunate as I was to get a wrap-around porch balcony overlooking the front and side garden, you'd want to entertain yourself and invite all your friends over. As if that's not enough, the afternoon wine and appetizers are presented with such an "otherworldly" experience.. other places just don't do this. It's upscale yet homey and welcoming. Only two blocks from State Street, you can walk all around and enjoy a lot of what Santa Barbara offers. Everyone on the staff is so friendly. I will definitely be back. Thank you for a great experience. Then to top it off, you are presented with a set of beautiful notecards as a memory of your experience. Incredible!!…
A most delightful stay. The hotel is small, elegant, beautifully decorated, with comfortable and welcoming public rooms. The staff are competent and very welcoming. There is a daily late afternoon drinks and snacks session which adds to the overall enjoyment. This hotel is a real treasure and so different from those marble-halled impersonal monsters that we are so used to. Delicious breakfast overlooking the garden. We would have stayed longer but, not surprisingly, they were full.
A long overdue return to this amazing property. A 3 night stay in Pendle Cottage. Everything about The Simpson House was perfect. Superb service from every staff member. Impeccable grounds that invite you to settle in, unwind, and simply relax. Breakfast and afternoon hor d’oeuvres were all delicious. Walking distance to downtown. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect getaway so close to home. The highest recommendation.
Absolutely magnificent! Over the top helpful and friendly staff, their Happy Hour spread was great and the breakfast was first class. Very comfortable room with mini-fridge and wine available for purchase. We had a lovely and very large sun deck and can imagine it being fun to hang out and read. Sadly, the time we were there it was raining like crazy. Tip: bathrooms are very small
My boyfriend surprised me mid Covid with an town overnight just around the corner. Our room, the Hayloft was simply devine, with fireplace, cushy bed and private patio where we enjoyed the most delicious breakfast. The baked goods served were worth every calorie. It's so quiet there, up in the trees, lush landscaping all around, you hardly know you are blocks from a busy street. The living room was off limits due to Covid, but we had our turn by the fire there too, with a glass of wine. We highly recommend!!! And the people are so nice there too.
It was our wedding anniversary. Pulled and entered a different world behind a hedge that completely blocks the property off from the street. Greeted with scones and clotted cream, an early check in and a perfect room. The place looks like it belongs in the English countryside. 5:30 brought snacks and wine tasting while some ducks swam in one of the many fountains. Went out for some fun on the town and then came back to make a fire! LOVELY. Breakfast was right on point with beautiful porcelain dishes and attentive staff. Honestly, couldn't ask for more.
Excellent place. The food, wine, breakfast...all perfect. the best Bed & Breakfast I've ever stayed at. The staff was helpful, the accommodations were awesome. It's an older historical house refurbished and in very good condition.
