Stopped here along our route 1 road trip, after rejecting the $275 cabins along the tourist area of Big Sur. We paid $55 plus taxes for a night here. Our room was clean and comfortable with fresh sheets and a clean bathroom with towels and mini shampoo bits. Large television and a ceiling fan to keep us cool. Our room was on the ground floor with a grassy square out in front, a nice looking room and area to stop over for the night. Yes you can hear the people walking about in the room above but luckily they were quiet, or we were just out for the count! The receptionist was very helpful and let us view the room before paying (you never know) but it was all clean and tidy and good to go. No pet smells or sighting of animal hairs here as I have read in reviews. Room looked exactly like the pictures on the add.

Picked because of $, OK reviews at the time, WiFi, pool/hot tub. Big mistake! We had finished a long/traffic filled drive from San Fran & could not wait for a shower/bed. Our two teens were going through WiFi withdrawal & were excited about the pool/tub. Upon check in I asked for the WiFi code and was told that the WiFi was broke so there wasn't any. OK. We'll deal w/it. Upon entering the room it looked pretty much exactly like the pictures. Despite the wet dog smell, we decided to set up camp. We took showers in the small bathroom and headed to the pool. NOPE! Not gonna happen. The hot tub was gross and although the pool looked better, we were turned off. Upon initial entry, the room looked fine, despite the smell. But, we eventually saw the filth. The microwave was covered in the previous guest's splatter, food left in fridge & coffee still in pot. Next to fridge had probably NEVER been wiped down nor had anyone every vacuumed behind the nightstand. Just gross. We were already settled & showered so we made it work. Outside trash was overflowing when we got there. It was overflowing when we left Upon checkout I did bring the issues to the clerk's attention and they apologized & said they would address. We did a week long trip from SF to LA & stayed in budget motels the whole trip. We aren't picky. Great experiences in all the others. But, I would never stay here again. I have no idea what rooms the five star guests are staying in, but we weren't in one of them. Safe travels

Checkin was smooth. Not sure why the young kid who gave me my room gave me only one key knowing there are two adults. The motel supports pets (yay!) but we're not pet people. Spouse saw hairs on the sheets so it was questioned if the room was even cleaned. Sheets were all wrinkled. didn't smell (to me) but that was her concern. She's allergic to pets. but we were so fatigued from driving and it was only one night. I was feeling a little itchy myself but managed to sleep. She didn't sleep well and felt in the morning this was a pet room. I didn't point to her (in fear of her wrath!) since I saw much hair on the side of the bed and on the bottom dressing/cover (the spring/box cover). i'm like... crap! The hair on the side was like what was on some parts of the sheet though less on the sheets. If this was the only room they had (doubt it) at least give us an indicator. I was a little suspicious because she smelled a little bit of pet smell while I did but it was faint for me. For the price of the motel and maybe it's just the area because you have limited choices (very limited) I would've expected better. Good thing the people in the 2nd floor weren't getting it on. Man, the squeaks you'll hear on the flooring would be unbearable.

The owner is very friendly and attentive. He also gave discount coupons to eat at the restaurant next door, making the choice of where to eat easier. The little park in the middle of all the rooms and indoor pool and spa were nice bonuses.

We stayed here for the labor day weekend for our trip to Hearst Castle. For $215 plus tax per night. When I opened the door, there was a strong smell of wet dog. The carpet looks like it hasn't been cleaned for a while! I saw the screen door and the door were opened. I'm surprised that the housekeeper left both doors opened, any small animals could come into the room since we were on the first floor. I guess it was to let the odor out. Then I saw the coffee pot still has old coffee and empty coffee bag laying around. I looked at the bed, I saw plenty of short black dog or cat's hair on the top sheet and a few on the bedsheet. I wonder if they bothered to change the sheets before making the bed. By that time, my allergies have already flared up since I'm allergic to dogs and cats. Infortunately, my husband had already jumped in the shower since we're been driving and walking all day. I went to the front desk and asked if they allowed pets in the room and they told me yes but that our room didn't have any pets. I asked if we could switch room but they said no, which is understandable since my husband couldn't wait and took a shower. First of all, I think it's great that this motel allows pets, for pets owners, but not so great for people like me who are allergic. The manager should have disclosed that our room had a pet instead of lying about. We will not recommend this motel to others and will definitely not come back here!
