We've stayed at the Silver Surf Motel many times, particularly when we decided to visit the central coast overnight on a whim or if we want to go on a food run in the central coast and do not want to spend too much on lodging but want to splurge on food. Silver Surf never disappointed, however, understand that it is a budget motel and the demographics come along with it. It is a dog friendly motel and we've brought our European Doberman once with no problem. The main "park" area is large enough for our dog to get some exercise, however, it is required to have dogs on a leash at all time in motel grounds. Back to the demographics part, watch your footstep when walking at the park. There are unscrupulous dog owners who leave their dog crap behind. The best time to stay is on a weekday, not only is the price significantly cheaper, you also avoid the weekend party crowd. If you don't mind some of the offsets, it's not a bad budget motel to stay at.…
The good” the room was good size, modern, nice bathroom, microwave and refrigerator. Plenty of light, ceiling fan and heater. The bad” the room was dusty, no TP had to use the last 4 tissues in the box, the premises needs a serious update. Faded paint, dingy and dirty walk ways, “The Garden” is dead grass, with creepy benches . The office decor is odd and customer service is below average. Good price and great location close to beach, food and Cambria.
we did not shoot for high end. yet we ended up very satisfied with the week end. room was clean and fresh. reasonably quiet (admittedly, walls are thin, but we were lucky the neighbors behaved). good sleep. microwave, fridge, lawn with chairs, in room table/chairs gave us the flexibility we wanted. helpful front desk who provided us extra coffee shots. swimming pool OK. quite happy with the stay
We stayed here in June 2020 for 4 nights, W - Sat. during the COVID situation. Desk staff was friendly and we got a nice upstairs room at the back of the property. That was all good. Room seemed tidy enough, but we don't examine every crevice as some do. The first two nights the motel was fairly empty and quiet so it was very nice those two nights. But then came Fri & Sat. The motel buildings form a U shape and there's a large grassy area in the center with a few picnic tables. The motel filled up quite a bit on Fri. & Sat, and several parties were being conducted on the lawn area and the sound kind of echos around the property. With guests laughing loudly and children screaming while playing on the lawn, it got to the point we couldn't hear our TV without turning up the volume louder than we would like, as we don't like to disturb the rooms around us. But figuring we would not be the major disturbance, we raised the volume. The parties, laughing, loud conversation and screaming kids continued well after 10p, so at 11:30p we called the front desk to see if something could be done about the noise. The man at the front desk said he would talk to them immediately. If he did, it didn't seem to change anything and the noise continued until sometime after 12:30a. Since the rooms didn't have A/C there was no way to drown out the noise, but luckily we brought a fan with us in case the room got hot. (We had seen other reviews saying they got too warm in the room.) So we fired up the fan and used ear plugs in order to go to sleep. Then on Saturday night, we had an additional situation, which we did not bring to the attention of the management, but we had a fairly strong "skunk" smell coming in the room from somewhere. This really isn't the sort of area you would expect to find skunks, so we assumed it was probably someone smoking marijuana. We had to close up the windows in the front (where you get the ocean breeze) and it got somewhat warm in the room. There was a ceiling fan in our room which helped some. Needless to say, we were glad we were leaving on Sunday. Overall the room rate was good, bed was comfortable, front desk staff courteous, good location, but just be prepared for the possibilitiy of late lawn parties any time the weather is pleasant. I think next time we will try a different location, especially if we are there on a weekend, but I guess the noise situation could happen anytime since the management doesn't seem to be able to control the situation.…
This was a nice change from my usual diet of Chain Hotels in major metro areas! The Motel was clean and comfortable in a breathtaking area. It was a perfect stop for our Pacific Coast Highway adventure. I would stay here again if in the area.
