Unacceptable. I'm sitting in the lobby at 8:05 a.m. locked out of my room for the last half hour. (I went for coffee and when I returned my key had stopped working for some reason.) There is no employee anywhere onsite, and no one has responded to the phone number posted at the front desk for "immediate assistance." Meanwhile the front door is wide open. There's a sign saying the lobby is closed so I guess this is their policy somehow, but I've never seen anything like it. I have no idea when or how I'll get my belongings. I was supposed to be on the road by now... EDIT: After 1.5 hours, someone showed up. They apologized and refunded half my bill, which was nice. But they also gave me a bogus story about what supposedly happened, and they confirmed no one has been on duty because they’re currently understaffed. I sympathize (sort of) but I relation with my view that this is an unacceptable practice. I mean… What if I’d had my 2-year-old nephew with me and I’d just run down the hall for ice? Crazy.

It was graduation weekend and we needed a place to stay close to our sons house, and all hotels were way over priced! I picked Lamplighter for it’s proximity to my son. We had a family suite. The walls are like paper, you hear everything outside, above or below you, it’s ridiculous. We were pooped from a very full day and tried to go to bed around 9:30, as soon as I turned off the light i heard people screaming and yelling and something hitting cars in the parking lot. Looked out the window and it was grown men playing wiffle ball in the parking lot. I waited a half hour and then called the front desk (had to use my cell as the phone in the room apparently is just for looks). I asked the young man that answered the phone if he could send someone to ask the men to stop as I did not want to interact, and he said “be patient everyone is just trying to have some fun “. Idk if he ever talked to them, as 5 minutes later they hit a car and the alarm went off, then they scattered. Also, they put 2 separate holds on my card each for the full amount of my stay, and the duplicate did not release for 4 days. My room for grad weekend was $500+ per night, and it was a pit. If I had anywhere else to stay I would have hightailed it out of there. Bedding is stained, couch looked like it has seen way too much, and bathroom was moldy. Never will I ever even look at a lamplighter inn again!

Shocked by the battered room appearance, & unclean bathroom. No smoke detector & ceiling light missing w capped wiring visible. TV not functioning, 1 door lock broken... And this was my upgrade after for the first time ever, requesting another room. Despite this staff we're pleasant

Showed up and they doubled booked my room. I asked if they could put me in a different room, but the room was smaller so they had to charge me again. The room they gave me, the door did not lock, key cards didnt work, only 1 light worked in the room, in the bathroom. TV didnt work, electrical outlets didnt work, so i couldn't charge anything. I told the front desk about the room the next days, and said for future you probably shouldn't have a guest stay there its horrible. He assured me they would they would take care of it. Fast forward a 2 weeks, Im getting calls from the owner because I disputed 2 charges on my credit card. 1 charge they double booked me so I didnt even get to stay in the room, the other because I was charged full price when I was told by 3 different associates that work there, there would be a discount provided. The owner is threatening me and saying have fun with my attorney, I waited to dispute these charges because I was told the owner would take care of it first, never did, and the charges were posted. This is the the worst and rudest business ever.

The room and motel itself is very old. Bathroom needs significant work done to it - cracks and holes throughout the area. Toilet was unbelievably loud - louder than a plane toilet. Pillows are very small. It was fine for a one night stop over. Wouldn’t stay longer than that.

I have to say that we were upgraded to a larger room when we checked in. However, the bed took up most of the room so I can’t imagine how much smaller a smaller room could have been. Many amenities were missing. The Kleenex box had two Kleenex in it. The carpet was dirty. Old-fashioned germy bedspreads were on the beds. It’s very convenient to the campus, I wouldn’t stay here again

I’ve stayed at the Lamplighter many times over the years. It’s been acceptable in the higher-priced SLO market. This past weekend, the first room they gave us had mold in the bathroom and broken furniture. The second room had a broken refrigerator. They balked at giving us a third. They left the front desk unstaffed at the dinner hour! We did get a refund and found a much better tho slightly more expensive room across the street at the University. Understand it’s under new management. Too bad. We’ll never stay there again.

This is the motel from hell. I also read the reviews and found them mixed. When we checked in we went through three rooms trying to put together a package that had a working TV, a coffee pot and towels, moving stuff from one room to another. It was explained that there is one cleaner for the entire motel and it shows. We were gone the next day and when we returned the room had not been touched. We had to go to the desk and once again ask for coffee and towels and toilet paper. In a four day stay the room was sort of cleaned once. Usually when we returned the key no longer worked in the lock and had to be reprogrammed and even after it was it was difficult to enter because it was jammed and required slamming it with your shoulder to open. The so called breakfast consists of coffee and a few plastic wrapped Danishes and muffins. The desk clerks were pleasant and tried to help but it’s a lost cause. I don’t think either is there anymore.

I read reviews prior to staying here. They were mixed. I don't know how much people were paid for a good review, but BELIEVE EVERY BAD REVIEW HERE!! I will cut down all that occurred and just give a few highlights. At time of check in we said we do not want daily service. Were told we would not have any, and were given extra towels, as we requested, from desk attendant. We went to the room we were assigned and found no screens on the windows (we like to leave them open) and the shower door hanging in the air, off of the shower. I returned to front desk, told attendant situation. He was not surprised and managed to find us a different room. Second room had front screen, but no bathroom screen. We managed. About an hour later we heard another couple speaking to desk attendant They had him come out to view room he assigned them (same one he tried giving us) They wanted him to see the shower. He was So Surprised! to see it that way, and told him someone would fix it. (I hope someone did) Upon return to our room the next day, our room was not serviced, but cleaning had come in and taken the dirty towels, and 2 extra towels we were given, leaving only hand towels. I again went to front desk to request towels. Now there was a different attendant who only had hand towels at front desk. He said he would bring shower towels. I requested 3. Called desk after 1/2 hour, still no towels. Hour- still no towels. We had dinner reservation and wanted to shower after beach. Called again, he said he would come. He brought one towel, saying that is all the hotel has. He argued with me that hotel has no more. Bit later, he banged on front door. When I answered it, he had thrown 2 more towels on the dirty A/C unit outside door walked away. Very rude, but I had towels! Shower is also in great disrepair. Floor and sides of shower are all peeling. Much more disrepair and poor service, but this is enough to write. STAY AWAY!
