The Flying Caballos ranch house is over 100 years old. It sits on a 200+ acre ranch just outside downtown San Luis Obispo. The house has recently been restored from top to bottom and back to its original luster. There are five bedrooms in all, each of them unique and decorated with the utmost attention to detail. The living areas are cozy and inviting and make for a very warm and peaceful environment.

We stayed here for a family wedding gathering. There are many bedrooms in the main house as well as the accompanying bungalow and water tower. It is quaintly rustic, and an ideal place to host a large gathering if the weather is good, which it was. The evenings can chill down, so bring a jacket. There is a dance floor, space to set up a band, plenty of tables and chairs, as well as loungers and a fire pit. We slept 12 or so in the main house and bungalow, and hosted around 100 for the wedding ceremony, dinner and party afterwards. There is plenty of parking, and we had several people come in RV's and caravan, and stay overnight on the property. There are supermarkets and cafes within a short driving distance. Lovely, rustic and charming.

This review is for the Flying Caballos Ranch House in San Luis Obispo. Our family stayed here for the weekend of July 15, 2016 for my sister's wedding. I must say that I had my reservations about staying at a "ranch house", but I was pleasantly surprised! The property is sprawling. Long driveway with lots of squirrels running to and fro :) The main house is immaculate. Very well kept and the red cabinets in the kitchen are a nice upgraded touch. The bedrooms upstairs were spacious as well as the upstairs bathroom. The downstairs bedroom and porch were gorgeous. As far as the main house goes, the ONLY thing that made me nervous was that going up and down the stairs, there is no hand rail and/or poles in between. So if you have any children under the age of 5 don't lose sight of them in the house ;) The views from the backyard are breathtaking. There is a GORGEOUS outhouse (yes, I said gorgeous and outhouse in the same sentence) in the backyard and the backyard is perfect for a wedding. The studio property is modern and upgraded as well as the guesthouse. The 3 story tower down the hill makes for a romantic evening getaway and if you can brave the semi-covered outdoor shower, go for it! I will definitely keep this place in mind for a subsequent family reunion. Great summer weather, great scenery, can't wait to go back!

Our daughter & her fiancé found the Flying Caballos Ranch while searching for a wedding venue after their engagement. It was absolutely perfect as the wedding party and families of the bride & groom stayed on sight. The accommodations at the Farm House, Guest House and studio were well equipped and very comfortable. The Water Tower was so special for the couple's wedding night. Everyone loved their stay at the Flying Caballos Ranch. Now we're thinking it would be a great place for a family reunion or special birthday celebration.

10 Stars! 20 Stars! 100 stars! This place is a dream come true.. so charming and filled with adorable details that make you feel as if you jumped in a time machine to the early 1900's. We had our wedding here on Sept 26th 2015, and it was even better than I remember during the site visits. We came down from San Francisco for a whole "wedding weekend," and I would do it all over again if I could! I'll try to make this an easy-read, but keep in mind, I would write a novel about this place... + Weather was perfect; a little windy in the afternoon but nothing outrageous. We didn't need any heaters at night, but apparently there is usually some fog that rolls in this time of year + The "yard" around the main house was nicely landscaped for our reception- So gorgeous! + We arrived Thursday, checked out Sunday, and enjoyed a lovely evening with family Thursday night. This was great for seeing what the lighting was like a nighttime + Fire pit is clutch! + Did't get a chance to try the hot tub, but check it out! + Houses were very clean and ready for our arrival + EVERYONE that came to our wedding raved about the venue + Amazing backdrop for our ceremony + They offered to switch the colored light bulbs out for us to all white-lights. SO helpful! + The owner sent a handyman over to fix issues we had within the same day and even came by himself to make sure it was all taken care of + We had the water tower as our wedding night "suite" and it was like a dream... waking up with birds chirping and a gorgeous view. Couldn't have asked for a better morning with my new husband Sarah was wonderful to work with and made the last few months of planning so easy. She took over from our other point of contact and did an even better job of answering our questions, and being available for vendors to come by in the weeks prior.. even after just having a baby!! Thank you Sarah!! If you want the perfect wedding day, with an amazing property to enjoy with your families in the days leading up to it, choose Flying Caballos. We plan on coming back with family for many years to come to relive our magical day. (P.S.- All our photos were by the talented Jonathan Roberts of Bluephoto. He knows this venue well and will capture the best moments of your day!)

My family and I rented the farmhouse in December for our annual holiday celebration. We had such an incredible time relaxing in the home and around the property. We enjoyed nights in the hot tub under the trees as well as making s'mores around the artistic fire pit. During the day we hit up some wineries located a couple of miles down the road before coming back to the ranch for our family dinner and holiday gift exchange. The farmhouse has been renovated with a complete attention to detail. Each room had it's own vibe and all the decor was really well thought out. It did rain during some of our stay, but we all felt very cozy in the living room playing games and hanging out with one another. If you're looking for a completely unique place to get away with your family or friends... yet you're close enough to stores, restaurants, and wineries... this is the place for you! We can't wait to come back! Thank you Sarah for all your help in making our stay so special!

I had the opportunity to stay at the Flying Caballos Ranch Labor Day weekend 2015. The whole wedding party was so delighted that we all got to stay together for four days sharing meals in the kitchen and working together preparing for the Big Day. Family stayed in the Farmhouse as well as the Guest House and Cottage. We enjoyed how the 1950's retro-farmhouse theme spilled over into the rehearsal BBQ we had outside under the trees that were all lit up with globes from "back in the day". If you had brought your dancing shoes the built-in dance floor was ready for you. I can't say enough about Sarah, the Property Manager/Event Co-ordinator. She was so helpful to all of us. She had the uncanny knack of anticipating our needs and met them all. I've never seen anyone run around and get so much done. She's not only efficient and professional she has a great sense of humor and we love her sunny disposition. Weddings can be stressful for sure, but she had us laughing and saw to it that the whole day went smoothly. The huge trees, old out-buildings and rolling hills made for lovely backgrounds for the photographer. Everywhere you look you would see amazing photo opportunities. I think the fire pit was one of my favorite areas of the property for gatherings, toasting, making s'mores and keeping the party going. I was surprised how many family members thought to bring a swimsuit......the hot tub got lots of use after a long day of setting up for the wedding. I will say this; when the sun started to go down the ambient light around the farmhouse was breathtaking. We have spectacular photographs of one of the most special days ever. When family gets together we reminisce and have already started to put together plans for a reunion back at the ranch.

This past summer I was lucky enough to be a bridesmaid in a wedding held at this very special ranch. The spaciousness of the property, combined with the three separate accommodations made it not only an incredible space to host the wedding of my dear friends, but also the perfect setting for an unforgettable weekend for family and close friends to celebrate, enjoy each others company and stay comfortably all together in a beautiful location. Between the outdoor grill, the hot tub and plenty of space for lawn games, our group spent most of our time outdoors enjoying the perfect SLO weather. The scenic setting of this ranch makes practically impossible to not to relax. The guesthouse and cottage, where family of the bride and groom stayed, were very nicely decorated and had everything you need for a comfortable weekend stay. I personally stayed in the main farmhouse with the bride and the rest of the bridal party. The warm and inviting layout of the home was ideal for preparing and having meals together, finishing up last minute wedding crafts and relaxing with the bride-to-be. The day of the wedding we had plenty of space to get all of us ready with hair stylists, makeup artists and photographers in tow. The bright colors and beautiful furniture of the rooms made for great pre-wedding photos. The wedding itself was magical and the property is laid out in such a way that each portion of the event had its own special location. From cocktail-hour near the farmhouse entrance, the ceremony in a scenic field overlooking the valley, a wonderful dinner in the backyard lit with strings of bulb lights and of course the dance floor…that was full as soon as the music started! One of my favorite things was the fire pit, which made for a cozy setting to catch up with friends and take in the beauty of the whole night. Overall, I couldn’t have had a better time at Flying Caballos Ranch and can’t wait to return. Members of the bridal party and I are already talking about renting the property for a long weekend so we can take advantage of the nearby wine tasting. I would highly recommend this property to anyone planning a wedding, reunion or even just time away with friends or family. It truly is a unique place where everyone can come together to create lasting memories in a beautiful setting.

We stayed for three days in February, 2013. The location is lovely, in the midst of acres of land and they welcome dogs. The yard is fenced (very small) but our dog walked around everywhere with us off leash. The cottage is ample for a short stay. It has a full fridge, microwave and full stove. There are additional pictures at vbro.com; however, the picture of the fenced yard on this site is not the one for the cottage. Some things need to be addressed: they welcome pets so why not provide some not-so-nice bed coverings so dogs can get on the bed; the wireless internet does NOT work. It's too far away from the main house. They should not advertise it as available for the cottage or the small house. The turntable in the microwave was not working. There was no one present at the property the entire time we were there. If you have a problem, you have to call Joleen and hope she can help you by phone. My return deposit check was not dated until 5 days after we checked out and not received by me until 18 days after we checked out - not acceptable - for $600 ($400 deposit and $200 pet deposit). There was no three-ring binder in the cottage to tell you how things worked, where to empty the garbage, how to use the microwave, etc.

Everything about this place was awesome. Shaby chic throughout with all the modern conveniences. We filled up the bedrooms but never felt crowded with the outdoor facilities. Lawn was impecable and a great gathering spot for a large group get together. Large BBQ, tiki torches, and cool outdoor lighting in the trees ... even has outdoor speakers to connect to your iPod! Property manager was very helpful in getting us set up. Wish we could have used the new elevated hot-tub!
