Despite being a Marriott Rewards member I hadn't stayed in a Courtyard for at least 15 years. If the Salinas version of a Courtyard is representative, the entire chain is lost in a time warp. You can begin with the fact that that the Courtyard approach to breakfast hasn't changed. Long after other chains are providing "included" breakfast buffets, Courtyard still expects you pay a pricey amount for a sit-down breakfast. (Although judging by what I saw the morning, they DON'T expect it--because most of their guests don't do it! Go figure! But you DO get free WiFi! (Althogh I can't remember when I paid for WiFi somewhere.) Then there is the dismal little "gym" with exactly two treadmills and one "something or other." And don't expect a newspaper on the weekend. Adding insult to injury, we were hit for a $9 parking charge in a neighborhood where out of business stores have created plenty of parking. On the plus side: Very nice room. Good television options for my TV watching spouse. Good desk for setting up my computer. Very good bed. And it is easy to grab a quick breakfast an the neighboring fast food place. Besides, the motel options in Salinas (we have family there, lived there for many years, and visit there often) aren't particularly paradise. Price with tax. $315, which will not be representative because it was a middle day of a Memorial Day weekend and in much of the area near Monterey/Carmel it is hard to book a room for less than 2 nights on a weekend in the summer. Good luck!

An older hotel that is currently being refurbished. Unfortunately the pool was closed, and I had wanted to use it. Staff is great, rooms are older but clean. The Bistro is typical fare, however outstanding quality. I ordered there thinking I was copping out- but had an amazing burger and flat bread. Better than I would have found in Salinas. This hotel puts effort into good service and upkeep. I would return.

As a long-time Marriott customers, I have stayed at many Marriott properties across the globe (350+ nights). My comments for this property have nothing to do with the staff...the staff was very friendly. Overall my rating is based on the quality of the property in comparison to the price paid. Price - First of all, this is Salinas, CA, not a major city. While perhaps the proximity to Monterey / Carmel makes this property more expensive, I have stayed at much nicer properties in Monterey for less. Parking - It baffles me how a location like Salinas can charge for parking. This was a recent change (I think early this year), and honestly just out of principal I have a problem with it. Again, this is not a resort area nor a major city. Cleanliness, etc. - Rooms are ok, but showing their age. Also, they just didn't feel as clean as they should (again for the price). Overall, even though I've stayed here numerous times in the last 6 months (out of convenience), I think I'm going to have to start finding a new place. If I were to make at least one recommendation, PLEASE stop charging for parking...that is just adding insult to injury.

First get ready to pay $9.05 just park in an open lot if you can find a space at all among all the contractor trucks and the occasional jail transport van. The furniture is worn out the entire site is dated. The pool is closed and being used as sheet and pillow storage site. Sheets have stains on them. This pace is disgusting.

The stay itself was "OK" but when taking into account the price paid, it was horrendous value for money The Pros: Close to attractions & convenient to amenities such as walmart etc Parking (If you can get one) is close Water Pressure good Check in was efficient The Cons: Double Charged my credit card - First a hold (normal) but excessively higher than the nightly charge (Weird considering I literally checked in at 8pm and was leaving at 7am the next morning) - They then, on check out, charged the nightly room charge to my card a second time. Every other Marriott group hotel I've ever stayed at has withdrawn the rate from the "Hold" and then released the balance Did not recognise my Gold Elite SPG/Marriott - No upgrade, no special treatment (They did comp the parking charge - But I'd expect that given the nightly rate) Aircon didn't function - Phoned front desk and they told me the wall controller wasn't working and to manually use the aircon box on the wall. Tried this, still didn't work, gave up as was tired Limited parking, Had to park in a disabled bay as there were no other bays available Room was over all quite dirty and old, I was so tired after a long flight from Australia that I wasn't too fussed but would've asked for a new room had I not been so tired For the price paid, I expected a flawless experience, this was not what I received
