Two beautifully restored historic homes in a quiet-turn-of-the-century neighborhood, seven blocks from the State Capitol and Convention Center. Marble tiled bathrooms with Jacuzzi bathtubs for two, some rooms also feature fireplaces and private patios. Gourmet breakfast at the time of your choice, high speed internet access, parking. The only 4 Diamond Inn in Sacramento is the place for business and pleasure.
Beware if booking through hotels.com. I booked this place 1 year 2 months beforehand for a 4-night stay. Five days before my stay, I receive an email saying the place is no longer available. If course this was for a multiple day local event and everything in the area is now twice the cost. Book elsewhere.

I booked and pre-paid for a room ($182) for Saturday June 26. The Amber House messaged me on Friday June 25 to cancel my booking as they had had a fire. I'm very sympathetic to the fire as I'm sure that is awful to deal with but they have not refunded my booking nor have I been able to contact anyone to talk to them - I've emailed & messaged them back (immediately after they messaged me) and called multiple times. I'm not sure how else to get a hold of them but I would like my money back for a room that I was not able to use! This is really frustrating as we come into Sac often and were excited to try them out as our new weekend getaway.

This property is now operating under new management and in our view, they were lacking in the personal touches that make people choose B&Bs. Their literature claims that cookies are delivered to rooms each night. When that didn't happen and we asked about it, we were told that they aren't doing that because of COVID. The first night we were there, we chose one of the breakfast options to be delivered to our room (the only choice currently) which included fresh muffins and a hard-boiled egg. What was delivered was a store bought yogurt and a store bought granola bar.. We called a half hour after our delivery time and asked if more was coming. We were told that they had "run out of muffins" and that they were going to have to "re-cook the hard-boiled eggs because they had all cracked." No explanation was given how they could have run out of muffins when they only have a few rooms and claimed that they make the muffins fresh each morning. We never did receive either item or any substitution. The next night, we never received an order form. We had come home from dinner around 9:00 pm and it was definitely not on our door knob (or anywhere else) at that time. The next morning when we went to check out, they claimed that they had left a form and apologized "for the miscommunication" but neither offered to do anything on the spot (like give us items to go) or to adjust our bill in any way. Our room and bathroom were fine, but we definitely didn't feel very "taken care of" at this B&B.…

My girlfriend and I booked a night to celebrate our anniversary. The check-in was super easy which I really enjoyed. We were left an envelope with instructions on how to check-in without having to go to the front desk which I thought was awesome. Upon entering the room everything seemed perfect. I went into the bathroom and noticed one of the small towels was stained yellow alongside a regular sized one which to me is no big deal. We went to check out the deck and I was disappointed. The deck was really closed off with no views since on the website it is advertised as it having some views for the sunset. Later on in the evening, we turned on the jacuzzi (which we had trouble doing since there are no instructions or we failed to find them) and a spider came out. As we were relaxing in the jacuzzi my girlfriend noticed that there was another one crawling next to me on the wall which I don't really mind but my girlfriend is deathly scared of spiders. Everything else was fine up until the next morning. We woke up to breakfast at our door (because of COVID) and we started to eat. I was halfway through my danish when my girlfriend noticed that it had mold. It is my fault for eating it but I would expect the food to be more inspected before given to customers. Overall it was a nice place but it did not live up to the price that was paid and to its reputation.…

Thank you for taking the time to review us and I am terribly sorry we failed to meet your expectations. We do have a very lush garden behind the Mozart patio. It doesn't happen often, but every once in a while a bug might sneak in. I'm sorry it happened on your watch. The rooms are thoroughly inspected prior to every check in. We've been offering the prepackaged breakfast for a few months (only temporary!) and haven't had any other issues with the pastries. I would have gladly replaced it. Being that they are prepacked it is difficult to inspect without breaking the seal. Again, I am sorry you weren't satisfied and wish you the best! We enjoyed hosting you. Best, Holly

We stayed in the room with King bed and large bathroom. The room was quiet, bed was comfortable, large bath with tub and separate shower. Great location with many restaurants near by and a wine bar. There are stairs getting into the house and up to the rooms so ask for help if you don't want to carry your luggage. The room was $250 for one night. Breakfast included coffee with little containers of cream. I would have expected real milk to go with the coffee. We had a choice for breakfast of oatmeal, granola or broiled grapefruit and eggs Benedict. We chose the eggs. We had difficulty eating the grapefruit as it wasn't properly cut and we gave up trying. My husband said they were the worst eggs Benedict that he ever had. Sauce had a funny taste, eggs were overcooked and english muffin wasn't toasted so it was soggy. They provide coffee with breakfast, no juice but if you want water, they hand you a water bottle. For $250, we would have expected a nicer breakfast.…

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our Inn, your feedback is important to us and will be sure to share with our staff. Amber House is an Antique Inn with all the charm one can expect, we do have have a 2nd floor which does include some stairs, I do apologize if that was an inconvenience, we alway have staff that is more than willing to assist with bringing it up or down the stairs. With regards to Milk, we not only have regular milk, but, Almond, Soy, Lactaid and Half/Half, I can assume if you received the creamers, you asked for coffee/cream/sugar, if asking for any sort of alternative milk we will always oblige, I apologize if there was a miscommunication on that front. Our eggs benedict are two poached eggs served on a toasted English muffins topped with Hollandaise Sauce,Thyme, and lemon zest, which as a rule is warmly receive and enjoyed by many, however understand that not all will share the same affection and for that i'm sorry you did not enjoy. We do have about a dozen different breakfast we alternate day to day and am sure if you tried us again we could find something you would enjoy :) Please come back and see us again :) Dan Wickstrom

Great Midtown location. The reason I selected Amber House. Easy walk to everything. Lovely neighborhood with many victorian houses, big trees lined the streets. My room was cozy and comfortable. All staff were lovely. Nice touch - each morning hot tea (or choice of coffee or juice) was placed by door for when you wake in the morning. I will definitely stay again if/when back in Sacramento and would absolutely recommend.

We stayed in Sacramento for 1 night whilst on a road trip and chose Amber House for its unique charm, and because it was something different to a “chain” hotel. It’s actually two houses on opposite sides of the street. Check in was efficient, our breakfast order was taken at the same time, and we were directed to our room in the house opposite, and shown the parking so we were not on street. Room 10 was on the small side, but functional, and decorated well. Breakfast was nice as long as you like eggs benedict! The comment book in the bedroom was a quaint touch, and toiletries provided were very nice. If you want something different then Amber House provides that.

I was just reminded why I stopped using B&Bs. Yes, the antique homes are quaint, but the challenges for modern travelers are too vast for flea market finds to overcome. Our host was harried when we arrived and although I looked longingly at a pitcher of water in the greeting area, none was offered after a 9 hour drive to reach our destination. Online, and indeed another guest waiting to check in, made reference to some “welcome” cookies upon arrival. They were not ready for anyone yet (about 4:00PM). Not so bad but imagine my dismay after seeking the host on another issue I see packages of Grandma’s Cookies, likely from the Costco we passed on the way in. B&Bs used to pride themselves on their near-gourmet food and re-heating package cookies full of preservatives, is hardly a good representation of California culture. Likewise breakfast which had decent but over cooked eggs and pan-fried potatoes that were burned. The bed was super comfortable and the linens were very nice. The big old fashioned tub was so appealing after a long drive, but there was a small print notice warning you that if you didn’t use their lavender soap you would be charged $50 if you any other bath product ( never saw any bath crystals in the room) were we supposed to use the liquid soap on the sink? I understand those glitter bath bombs are a mess, but just provide people with the salts you prefer. There was a glass canister near the sink with some cotton face swabs and some foam ear plugs?? Weird. I gave up and decided this property was more interested in saving themselves work rather than ensuring that the paying customer was comfortable. Sadly; based on this experience, this is no more than a 3 star property.…

This place was amazing!! The staff were kind, the room was adorable and the breakfast was delicious. We loved the morning coffee to our room and the uniqueness to each area of the B&B. We are definitely coming back. Thank you for the great trip to Sacramento!

I wanted to like this more than I did. We were here 4 years ago. Maybe it was the room (#4), which was dark and felt a little small. Or maybe it was the price, which seemed high for what we got, particularly the dark room again. The breakfast was still really good. And I really like the fact that you can have breakfast in your room, in the main dining room, or presumably on the front porch (which was closed for construction). Just wish it was as I remembered.
