My family stopped by Sterling Hotel in Sacramento on our way to Portland. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Sacramento. Parking was a challenge since the hotel didn’t have its own parking. We had to park at a nearby public parking which wasn’t too bad. We arrived at the hotel really late in the evening but the front desk staff was helpful and accommodating. Anyka and Cece were very helpful during our stay. We had troubles with the WiFi going in and out but was fixed after calling the front desk. The restaurants were walking distance. We will definitely be back.

Custom service was non existent. There was no friendly welcome on arrival, in fact the very opposite as 2 of our party went to park the car (there is no hotel parking) the other two tried to check in and the receptionist was not going to allow check in of both rooms, even though it was the same family name and clearly a family of four, all adults. She did in the end,only after making the point that the Sterling was not like all the other hotels we’d stayed in! No information regarding breakfast was given neither was help offered in finding our way around a city we were unfamiliar with. The rooms were a good size but in need of updating. A fridge would have been good and the WiFi didn’t work in #202. The light from the landing shone brightly through the door during the night. Breakfast was simple but adequate. A toaster with a selection of muffins and bagels, jam and hard boiled eggs, fruit and cereal. There were only 6 seats though, so don’t know how this works during busy times? A friendly, welcoming service would have made all the difference, as it was we would not stay here again,neither would we recommend.

Hotel has so much potential, but the quality is along the worst I've stayed in. Don't understand why it has a 3 star rating. 1) mold on Furness and room smelled. 2) no parking, street parking limited, otherwise you had to walk a block to parking garage with only a $2 discount 3) had to run the water for 5 minutes to get hot water, what ac waste off water 4) desk clerk was rude and in-patient 5) the accommodations were Hodge podge and didn't match 6) was of the lobby, no privacy 7) very dark, couldn't see street address 8) hot tub cracked and stained 9) porcelain missing on sink 10) sheets were stained, need to be replaced

I travel for business and I prefer to stay in places like this as much as I can, but this time I stayed for a concert. I highly recommend this place for its unique home-like character. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown so there are tons of restaurants to choose from. The ladies at the front desk are always very nice, accommodating, and have recommended several different great restaurants throughout my visits. The rooms are dated as expected of an old hotel but very clean with a modern touch. I was told that a lot of couples wed here. The only issue I've had is the slow elevator. It's a problem when you're in a hurry. It works but just slow. Highly recommend this place.

The hotel looks to be well cared for when you take a tour. When we held our wedding at the venue run by Wedgewood, we booked rooms at the hotel. The big suite we booked had an overwhelming moldy smell when you enter. Upon starting to get dressed I discovered the bathroom was in need of major repairs. The shower was overrun with mold and something was leaking keeping the tile constantly moist. If I had been staying in this hotel for any purpose other than a wedding on the premises I would have checked out and demanded a refund. I have a support dog, a real one. I have documentation of the need for the little dog and since it was such an important day we wanted our very well trained little dog there. We were told repeatedly that would be no problem. At check-in there was a attitudinal young woman I hadn't met who told me the room wouldn't be ready until after the wedding started. After convincing her this had been worked out with her manager she told me the room would be ready in an hour. During this discussion the 6lb dog was in my arms and did not make a sound. The employee said nothing about the dog. When I came back to get the keys to the suite I was told dogs weren't allowed and I'd need to get the dog off the premises. I explained the dog served a purpose and that I had discussed this with the hotel manager. She was incredible rude and condescending seemingly insinuating I was lying. She demanded she be able to call someone to verify the need for the dog. She actually said, "like a psychologist or someone". She also questioned why I needed a cane to walk. She also suggested I leave my dog in my car. I told the wedding venue people what transpired. I received a call from "the manager" who informed me I would not have anymore issues and the dog was ok if we didn't let anyone see her. I just hung up. I have meant to leave a review for some time because for a property with a wedding venue this hotel operation is just hokey and pathetic. They need to have a management company take it over that understands maintenance and proper and legality of guests with special needs. If you're holding a wedding here you're going to be really pleased with the event staff, but stay elsewhere. There is nothing romantic about a moldy suite. The same young attitudinal woman was back to get revenge and knocked on our door 3 minutes past check out time to ask if we we're leaving. This after she saw us taking load after load of stuff outside to vehicles. There is no place in the hospitality business for people who think this is acceptable. *Avoid*
