We enjoyed three nights at Apricot Cottage with our two children (9 and 5yo). It was cosy and comfortable, the perfect place to retreat to after a day of driving, walking and exploring. Loved the combustion heater and views over the orchard. Kitchen and bathroom were well equipped and bedrooms were comfy. During our stay mains electricity to the property was cut by the very unfortunate driving of a truck with a too-high load along the road, taking out the power line! However, host Paul was super helpful while the electricity crew worked day and night to fix it, bringing us portable lamps and setting up a generator to pump water through the taps. Our kids loved the opportunity to ‘camp’ inside this comfy cottage with its warm fire - all part of the fun! They also enjoyed befriending the farm dogs, Jet and Indy. We bought some dried fruit, jam and pickle from the orchard to bring home.

We recently stayed in the Apricot Cottage, with three young kids and had a great time. The cottage was super clean and very comfortable. The wood fire did a great job of keeping us warm over a cold couple of days. The kids loved exploring the farm and going on walks throughout the forest. There is a lovely deck out the front, overlooking the apricot orchard, which the kids loved riding their bikes up and down. If you are into running or riding there are plenty of great trails close to the accomodation. I did three 10 km runs over the weekend and the scenery was amazing. Next time I will definitely bring my mountain bike. Paul was very welcoming and had the fire ready for when we arrived. $130 a night is great value and we would definitely like to visit again,

Beautiful Location. Very comfortable and clean cottages. Lovely combustion stove with extra wood stacked outside if needed. It warmed up the whole cottage. Great walks nearby. Lovely views from the verandah. The hosts are friendly and helpful but not intrusive. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway, I highly recommend Taralee Orchards.

Down a winding dirt road near Wirrabara is Taralee Orchards. I stayed in Ruby Cottage which was spacious, homely and comfortable. The wood heater was stacked ready for lighting the evening I arrived and provided a lovely warmth and ambience. There is a reverse cycle air conditioner / heater though if you don't want a fire. All the amenities you would need including washing machine, to and DVD player. This would be an ideal getaway for a couple or family.

Several weeks ago whilst en route to the Flinders Ranges we took a break from our camping holiday to spend 2 nights in Ruby Cottage at Taralee Orchards. After 10 days of rain and wind it was heaven to come out of the cold into a lovely, warm (wood fire and a/c), well kept, timber eco cottage located adjacent to a tall timbered forest overlooking a productive biodynamic fruit orchard at Wirrabara. Denise and Paul the owners / hosts have done a wonderful job ensuring their guests stays are as comfortable as possible. The cottage is so well equipped it's just like being allowed to stay in some one else's home. Whilst there we took the opportunity to stretch our legs with a (steepish) walk through the forest up to the top of the mountain behind the orchard to a lookout overlooking Port Pirie and the upper reaches of the Spencer Gulf. The next day Denise came over to meet us bringing with her "Jet" the dog and "Gypsy" the goat (she saved Gypsy after it's mother was killed). Before leaving we could not resit buying a supply of Denise's delicious dried fruit / jams. We were so taken by Ruby Cottage that after our trip to Wilpena Pound, and after 4 wet and very cold nights back in our tent, we treated ourselves to a further 2 nights of luxury in the cottage so we could thaw out. As the title of this missive suggests a "Little bit of Heaven" is the reward for those looking for something a bit different.
