I've been coming here for many years and this is my happy place. Greg is an awesome host and has many things to say about the surrounding area which is helpful. His house is in a great location near downtown and centrally located to reach outer locations like Old Town Shasta, Dial Bridge and the downtown area. Nice view of the river with wildlife.
Bed was very comfy, decor is cool and Greg is VERY hospitable and makes good coffee! What a great place to stay! All of the railroad details were interesting and the outdoor fireplace made for a comfortable place to hang.
My wife and I also join all the other reviewers in giving Greg, the host, and the house my highest rating. The house has more antique collections of striking beauty and interest -- from many Tiffany lamps to railroad connectors to French lighthouse lights to a photo of a young Abe Lincoln to many other interesting collectibles. The owner/host is one of the most interesting people I've met, and he' s incredibly generous and gracious and willing to give guests his time to help them become acquainted with Redding's many attractions. I do not often give 5 stars, but Gred and the Desmond House deserve them.
The property is exquisitely clean and most interesting - the decor and furnishings are a comfortable, wonderful, and eclectic collection! I'll stay there again, the next time we need to stop off in Redding.
We will be next in line to rave about the Desmond House and Greg’s hospitality. Eclectic styling that’s warm and inviting with a surprise around every corner. Very clean living spaces and impeccable grounds, especially the back patio pergola and fire pit. Enjoyed our morning coffee and had a great time talking with Greg learning about the history of the Desmond house. Lots of options for privacy or interaction with other guests and our host so you can pick your level of engagement. The spiral staircase from the Sky room loft is epic! Can’t say “that was cool” enough. Hope to be back soon. Thanks Greg!
