Detailed Reviews
My sister and I stayed at Windsong for five days to explore Point Reyes. It was a perfect location for getting out and exploring as well as tasting local cheeses and mead. The cottage itself was amazing. Such an adorable building and it was soooo quiet. We even had Jack rabbits hopping by while sipping coffee. They provided a lovely food basket, eggs, juice and coffee. Nights in the hot tub looking at stars were the best way to finish each night.

Windsong is a yurt, but it is made of wood, so it felt like a cabin. It has a very rustic feel and is surrounded by horse ranches with a view of the bay in the distance. It is well stocked with kitchenware, towels, books and even light breakfast fare (coffee, tea, milk, orange juice, english muffins, eggs and fruit). Everything except the couch and the bed was a little outdated, but hey, it's a cabin, and it was kind of cute that way, to be honest.
Pros:
- The sounds of silence...it is so quiet and peaceful. All you will hear are birds chirping and the occasional horse whinny. Great for couples who want to be completely alone (unlike a B&B).
- The hot tub. It was so relaxing to sit in there after a long day's hike. The temperature is set perfectly, not too hot, so you can stay in it for hours. There were also a few little green frogs that liked to hide out under the cover, and they even kept us company for a while before they hopped off into the bushes :)
- Location. It is a short drive to downtown Pt. Reyes Station (restaurants, shops, farmer's market, gas station), Tomales Bay Oyster Company, wine tasting, and the Tomales Bay trailhead. It's was also cool for a city mouse like me to see horses through the windows!
- Anthony was easy to deal with and friendly
Cons:
- For me, this is a con, but may not be to others: the skylight is directly over the bed, so if you are visiting during summer, be prepared to get a shot of daylight in the eye early in the morning. I am sensitive to light and prefer to sleep-in past 6am, so if you are like me, bring a sleep mask. My fiance slept fine.
- There was no shampoo available during our stay, only conditioner and antibacterial liquid soap. I'm sure they just forgot to restock the shampoo and it was a one-off.
-Dead plants in the kitchen, should be removed.
- It felt a little strange paying in full, up-front, by check. But the transaction went smoothly.
Really, the pros definitely outweigh the cons, and I admit to being a very picky person, but they are things I did notice that bothered me slightly. But overall, our stay was a good one and we would recommend it to others as a great homebase to explore the area!

Thanks for noticing the plants and shampoo. We are very interested in keeping Windsong up to date and comfy and really try our best to make sure everyone is happy. The mattress. I personally pick out the best mattress available that most people will like. This is such a subjective opinion on how comfortable a mattress feels. The mattress is only a year old, most remark how comfy it feels as in other reviews, but as this reviewer states, it wasn't a good match for them. The couch is a Room and Board pull out, a very high end piece of furniture. I just sat it it today and it seems fine, again, my personal opinion. We recently upgraded all electronics. Stronger router for wifi.. downloads usually between 7-12 Mbps Bookshelf sound system with ipod dock. Flat screen monitor/TV. We always encourage any feedback, thanks for your observations! Anthony Ragona, owner of Windsong.

Stayed at Windsong for a quick getaway. Looked interesting (they have a good website) and love the area. Good communication on my reservation w/ directions. At first was a little uncomfortable paying up front w/ check but no big deal. Followed the directions and found this easy enough - would recommend if you do not know the area - don't arrive at night. We got there late afternoon before completely dark. Was a little chilly, so checked out the place and started up a fire - nice. The next morning cooked up a nice breakfast (we had some food to add to what was left by the host - but he actually left plenty). Went exploring a few times during our stay - we went Drake's beach & Petaluma - not too far away. Other than that, enjoyed time together w/ my wife, watched the sun come up (and down), watched deer outside and we just hung out played guitar and read books. Very relaxing (bed is very comfy) and cool place to spend a few days. Next time will check out town of Pt Reyes Station. If you are into quiet time and spending time together go here. Forget your thoughts of a Yurt being basically a structure - check this out!

We just spent the weekend at Windsong Cottage, and for us, from the amenities to the view, it was absolute perfection. We decided on it because it looked beautiful on the website and the price was very reasonable compared to some of the other cottage lodgings in the area. We arrived and let ourselves in, and were soon greeted by Tony, the proprieter, who warmly welcomed us, showed us the basics, and left us to our privacy. The view, out of 3 large windows, is of a 4-horse pasture with Tomales Bay and hills in the background. It is calming and mesmerizing. The bed is extremely comfortable. Here are the amenities: kitchenette - table, stove, sink, well stocked cupboards & fridge, including fresh fruit, homemade banana bread, english muffins, milk, juice, coffee, eggs, butter. Microwave, coffeemaker & toaster. Tap water is delicious to drink. Big, tiled shower and big showerhead, fluffy towels. Wood burning stove. Big, clean, private hottub with view of stars. Big windows that open to let in the breeze.Comfortable, big couch. Rocking chair. Small TV & telephone (in case you must).NO INTERNET & LIMITED CELL RECEPTION - YEAH!! Plenty of lamplight - or not. Small, newish weber BBQ. Walking sticks and information about what to do in the area, books. Plenty of closet space and extra blankets. Small table & chairs outside. Since it is a yurt, it is a round cottage with a big round skylight right over the bed - sublime! The space is roomy and the decor eclectic. The attention to detail to provide every comfort was amazing. It is almost one mile north of town on Hwy 1, very easy to get to. We had sunny weather, but are returning when it's not - this place is great, rain or shine. We also had great meals at Stellina, Olema Inn and Olema Farmhouse, and also a great picnic with cheese, bread and deli stuff from cowgirl Creamery. We ate at the picnic tables at Drake's Beach - the visitor center there blocks the wind. Hiking at the Lighthouse, Chimney Rock and Limantour was windy but worth it. And Tony was a great host. This is a place for people who don't want everything new and matching, or maid service. This is not a hotel. If you stay, remember - this is someone's home - just not attached. Pick up after yourself, do your dishes and leave it better than you found it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

My husband and I live in Albany, and we *really* needed a quick break from the stress of work and family. We had gotten so consumed with deadlines, obligations, etc., that we had neglected ourselves. We finally got a chance to escape to Windsong in December, and it was sooo worth it.
What was great about Windsong was that with a relatively quick drive (about an hour), we felt like we had left behind much of our day-to-day grind. We arrived to a charming, cozy cottage with a well-equipped kitchen stocked with more than enough food for a good breakfast. (We actually preferred making breakfast ourselves ... more privacy, and less pressure to wake up at specified times.) We took advantage of some nearby hiking trails, and when we returned feeling damp and chilled, we warmed and soothed ourselves in the hot tub. There's wi-fi in the cottage, so if you must, you can still stay connected to the world, but it's also great to unplug and just enjoy the peace and quiet you'll find at Windsong.
As a bonus, Windsong is a 5-10 minute drive to the Marin Sun Farms Butcher Shop and Restaurant on Hwy 1. My husband and I shared a ribeye steak, and it was delicious. Also try their "candy cap gelato," which is made from a mushroom (Lactarius rubidus) that grows in the region. The mushroom has a sweet, maple-like flavor. As a main ingredient in this gelato, it was exquisite.
We're looking forward to going back again.

Spent two nights at Windsong Cottage. It's beautiful with lots of natural light, in a charming setting. Don't be put off by having to pay by check in advance. I thought it was a little odd, but it's just the way the owner does business/ When we pulled up, he met us at the door and showed us around. There were six eggs, English muffins, butter, orange juice, fruit, and milk waiting in the fridge. Two drawbacks: it's small, really intended for two people (like the table has two chairs) and the kitchen is very tiny. But it's priced much less than other B&Bs in the area. There is a skyhole in the center of the yurt and it gets bright inside pretty early. I'm pretty sensitive to light when I sleep, so I was glad I had a sleep mask. This would be a lovely place to spend time with a significant other.

As a surprise for my wife's birthday I booked the Windsong Cottage. My wife wondered as we got off Hwy 1 onto a dirt road. Finally found the sign on the fence. She was very pleased to find the very comfortable accommodations. A bowl of fresh fruit, a great view of Tomales Bay and an assortment of breakfast goodies. Tony had things in great order. Nice and clean with various utensils and dishes so you could cook if you want. He had the makings for great coffee, which we enjoyed. But we went into town and ate at the Station Cafe. A most relaxing couple days away.
We recommend this.

My Parents just came and visited me from Ohio and we decided to leave San Francisco for a few nights and visit Point Reyes. My mom found Windsong on line and we ended up staying there for two nights.
It was so convenient to get there from the city but we felt like we were transported far from the city environment. The area around the yurt and cottage at Windsong were green rolling hills and it made us feel a sense of relief from the suburbs.
The hot tubs were just right and sitting out at night in the tub was one of the highlights of our time there. Both cottages had tons of privacy and the fireplaces were really a nice touch...
I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone looking for an escape to Point Reyes. The whole experience was great and I give it my highest marks...

We recently stayed at the Windsong Yurt, at Point Reyes Station for the night. We frequent Point Reyes throughout the year and love every season it has to offer. We have also stayed at many places at Point Reyes. Windsong is one of the Best! Great location, Bathroom was spotless, Wood Burning Stove was amazingly beautiful, and everything was set up just perfect. We like a lot of Privacy and Windsong provided it for us. We are very particular about cleanliness and we were very happy with the upkeep of the building. Probably the most positive impact was that we were lucky enough to run into Tony Ragona who manages and I believe owns the property? such a friendly and delightful person; who made sure we had everything we needed, that we were satisfied with our stay, and that we were given upmost privacy during our stay. Only regret is that we didn't stay longer! But, we know where we will be heading back to. Thanks Tony!

My husband and I stayed at the yurt for three nights in May and thoroughly enjoyed the accommodations and the area. It is comfortable and just big enough. We loved exploring Point Reyes during the day and returning to the yurt to watch birds and deer while having a glass of wine before heading out to dinner. There are places in the area to grab sandwiches or picnic stuff, a couple of good restaurants, and a fun bakery in the town. Peaceful getaway.

Go directly to windsong cottage website to check availability. If it is not available you might want to look at the Hummingbird Cottage at Bear Valley Inn .... bearvinn. com
