BEAUTIFUL SIGHT. You can take a wo derful tour. You'll recognize this lighthouse from the movies. Last movie scene shot on site was the scene at the end of NEED FOR SPEED. Also this is the closest point from the mainland to Hawaii.

Aloha everyone, As part of a 10 day summer vacation road trip, my significant other and I stayed at one of the Point Arena Lighthouse "keepers" cottages. More specifically, we stayed in the Head Light Keeper's Cottage (#1). First off, Point Arena is a beautiful spot, roughly 150 miles up Hwy 1 on the Pacific coast north of San Francisco.... More

Great experience! If you are up to climbing the 175 steps the view is amazing and there is a guide that will answer your questions. You can rest on several landings and the trip down is easy. The gift shop is nice and there is a little museum. Well worth a stop!

Thanks, Karen, I couldn't agree more except that everyone should visit MORE than once - it is different every day of the year out here. You never know what amazing sites you will see from the Tower and grounds. We get the migrating gray whales and pelicans flying by from October through June, harbor seals basking on the rocks most... Drove to the lighthouse while driving up the coast and I was just left breathless. The views are amazing and even our teenagers loved it. The wind, the views, and the lighthouse are just amazing. We even saw seals on the rocks, my son thought they were sheep when he first saw them. I would recommend this stop to anyone!

Thanks for the great review, and I have to say that even though I am here all the time the views always take my breath away, too. I am particularly glad that your teenagers loved it, I fell in love with this area when I was 16 and it has always been very special. I hope that it gets into... More

The trip to the lighthouse was great, mostly due to the fact you can actually go up into the lighthouse to the light room, then outside and walk around the lighthouse. The only downside was our tour guide, found once you make it to the top, was uninspiring and made comments not relevant to the area or the lighthouse.

Glad you made the trip and found it worth it! Sorry our guide was uninspiring, we try to have our guides be enthusiastic, informative and friendly and I'm sorry that wasn't your experience on your visit. Maybe he/she was having a bad day. I will discuss this in our next staff meeting, and I really appreciate the feedback. More

We were here in the middle of a huge storm in March and the experience was incredible. We drove over Mountain View Road, which nearly gave me a stroke. We are from Montana and accustomed to mountain driving, but with all the rain there were so many small slides and washed out areas that I wasn't sure we would make... More

So glad you braved Mountain View Road to come see us, and that you were awed by the storm! There are few things as humbling and awe inspiring as experiencing a winter storm on our exposed peninsula. I'll make sure we put some DVDs into the Keeper's Apartment, we generally try to make sure there are a few in each... More

All along the 2 mile drive out to the lighthouse are mesmerizing views of rugged seascape and rolling farmland. The iconic lighthouse is perched on a point that allows for excellent photographs. The salt air, sea mist and gentle sun make the experience unforgettable.

I never get tired of those last 2 miles to the Lighthouse myself! I love seeing Larry Stornetta's cows grazing, the red tailed hawks sitting on the power lines or swooping down on their prey, the harbor seals hauled out on the rocks, the whales blowing and breaching and our resident great blue herons strutting around the grounds. Hope you... More

If you enjoy wind swept rocky bluffs and the smell of ocean air you'll love this place. There's something about standing on a rocky cliff with the ocean pounding away at the rocks and the wind blowing through your hair that I find so relaxing. This is a stunning location with everything you could hope for in a rugged Northern California Location. We spent three night on Valentine's Day Weekend for our Anniversary at the Keepers Quarters. We visited three years ago and stayed at the Keeper's House but the lighthouse itself was undergoing renovations at the time and we didn't get to see it in it's true grandeur.
