The view was amazing and a total surprise So I'm giving an extra star for that. The view included rolling hills and lots of cows. The room was big. Staff was professional and friendly. They let us check in early. They include a lot of little extras in the room such as toothbrush, toothpaste, shoe polish wipes, cleansing cloths for the face. The room also includes a hairdryer, mini fridge, a full-size ironing board, an iron, corkscrew, two wine glasses. There is also a flatscreen TV with satellite and free Wi-Fi that works pretty well. They were completely dog friendly and only charged $25 for the dog fee but only a few rooms are designated dog friendly, so definitely call ahead to reserve a dog room. Our dog is a pitbull and we often encounter breed discrimination but they were welcoming and loving to her. The stay includes a continental breakfast with a variety of toast options, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs and coffee. Unfortunately the weather was cold so we didn't use the pool. Manager said the pool is unheated and spa is 98 degrees but that he can get it to 104 if we wanted. There is a Mexican restaurant, donut shop and grocery store within walking distance. But you'll have a short drive to the little downtown and to wineries.

My interaction with Ken, the manager of the Shenandoah Inn, was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had in my life. In the first week of November 2017, my then fiancée and I booked a winery in Plymouth for our wedding on 09/15/18. While we were looking for accommodations, we came across the Shenandoah Inn and contacted Ken, the manager. We chatted on the phone for the while, shared some good conversation and I learned about his background in law enforcement as I also work in public safety. He informed us that there was a barbera festival that day, so he already expected many visitors that day which is totally understandable, but there were other weekends available. He stated we could get the entire hotel booked (about 44 rooms) for with a AAA discount at a reasonable rate for 1 night with no deposit on the rooms. This sounded perfect as we were planning on having a large group for our wedding at the nearby winery. This was at the early stages of our wedding process, so we were considering changing the date of our wedding in order to have the majority of our accommodations covered. Ken confirmed that September 29th, 2018 was open (although his computer did not allow him to make reservations yet greater than 10 months out), and told us to call back in two weeks on 11/29/17. I was slightly hesitant to change the date of our wedding, but the thought of allowing all our guests to be under one roof was reason enough to do so. We pulled the trigger, moved the wedding date back and trusted Ken to follow through with his word. I called him back at the date he instructed me to do so, on the minute the hotel opened and informed him of the reason I was calling and his terms of our stay. He appeared surprised by the phone call, and when I asked him directly if he was going to honor what he told me, he said “yeah, that’s not going to happen.” I could not believe it. I was beyond frustrated, but kept my cool on the phone. He would not back down, and we “compromised” on ten rooms (5 queen and 5 king), 2 night minimum, full price (this part I’m not 100% on, but I believe it was 169 for 2 queens and 179 for 1 king- may be vice versa) paid upfront. He told me the bill and I was hesitant but agreed. I asked him for a receipt, he texted me a picture of the printout and my card was charged for $1,924.90, more than the price he discussed with me. I called back 5 min after the reservation and he said the price he told me about didn’t include tax, I know this may be silly but I had had enough at this point and said, “you know what, just cancel all the rooms”, which he promptly did. I did not want any of my guests to give this establishment any money. Instead, we reserved 2 large shuttles to transport people to and from Sacramento, closer to the majority of our guests’ homes. I never write negative reviews, but I feel like this story needed to be shared. We still had a wonderful wedding, the guests had a blast, and it was everything we could have wanted.

Response from Ken S, Manager at Shenandoah Inn
Responded Nov 2, 2018
We here at the Shenandoah Inn would like to send our most humble apologies for any inconvenience that you may have incurred, and we do hope that you did have a wonderful wedding. However, we are not quite sure how you were able to give us a review when you DID NOT stay here at the Hotel, but we are certainly looking into having your review REMOVED. Just to be transparent, we understand that you felt as though the manager was rude because you were quoted a hotel rate that did NOT include the sales tax, yet you were told plus taxes of 10%, lack of communication? Possibly; However, it is very unfortunate that the sales taxes are out of our control. Once again, we send our most humble apologies and hope that you a had a great wedding day Your Humble Host, The Shenandoah Inn Staff

We enjoyed our stay at the Shenandoah Inn. The manager was friendly and accommodating, the room clean, and there were many details that added to our enjoyment (in room micro wave and frig, cold bottled water, ironing board, mints, wine glasses and openers, toiletry items). The pool area was clean and well maintained. There was only one off note: the temperature control in the showers is lacking and that can lead to the water unexpectedly becoming very hot during a shower. My guess is the valves are not the pressure balancing type that control constant temperature as the water pressure in the hot and cold pipes changes. So be cautious in the shower.

Hotel owner Ken is very accommodating. Location is heart of Amador Wine Country. Clean, spacious and comfortable. There are grills and a patio for dining but we didn’t utilize these. Breakfast included hard boiled eggs, yogurt, fruit, pastries, bagels, cereal, juice, coffee and milk. Basic toiletries provided in room.

What a gem in the foothills! We stayed for a wedding at a nearby winery (Iron Hub) and enjoyed a delightful afternoon and night at this motel. It was clean- comfortable big room, all the amenities you could ask for. We highly recommend this place!
