My wife and I stayed there over a Saturday Night a couple of weeks ago, our first time staying in Placerville, which is truly an old time California mining town, where buildings, including the Cary House, are 150 + years old. We wanted to stay in this historic building, and found the decor of the lobby to be wonderful and very historic. Stained glass panels, a baby square grand piano, and overstuffed chairs and couches added to the old time feel. The elevator was appropriately ricketty and they also had old sign in books to looks at which were 130 years old. Great history. Our room had a fairly modern bathroom, updated and very clean. We had a little sitting room with a couch, TV and even a sink and stove. The bedroom was small, but had a closet and the bed was actually quite comfortable. We encountered three different staff members at the desk, and all were helpful. If you want "modern", this probably isn't the place for you, but if you crave a more historical environment, this is great. All for under $120 for our nights stay.

The Cary House is at a great location, walking distance to almost everything in historic Placerville. The bed was comfortable and their balcony was great. It is said to be haunted but we never experienced anything.

We were in town for the annual brewfest and decided to stay an additional night and were fortunate to have made a reservation at the Cary house. So glad we did as this hotel has so much history. After walking around the town it was very nice to come back to the hotel and be able to sit outside on the balcony and enjoy the evening. Great staff and will be back for sure.

Never traveled to Placerville before and decided to stay here for a friend's wedding. We were really impressed with the decor, stories, and also the elevator . I thought our room was very nice and the bed was comfortable. Chairs were a little dirty though. We were on the 4th floor and I couldnt find an ice machine, so I went to the front desk and asked Josh where the ice was. He said "oh you have to bring us an ice chest and we will fill it for you, or if you have a bucket." I had neither so I went back to my room. I had my husband ask same question as he walked in from going on a walk, and a different man at the front desk gave him an normal size ice bucket with ice. It would have been nice to have known that information ahead of time. It was not listed anywhere. Also, we had a couple questions around 730pm and there was noyone at front desk, then we went to check out at 11am and there was a note saying please leave your key cards on counter, but I wanted a receipt. I really liked the hotel itself, but seems as if you almost have to be self sufficient to get around.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Historic Cary House. Our room (204) was large and comfortable. After reading posted reviews we were prepared for some night time noise as our room faced the busy street. It wasn't that bad and we used earplugs a couple of nights. The location of the hotel is outstanding. You are close to everything in Placerville and there are many wonderful places to eat and shop. It is also convenient to many of the smaller towns in the area. We also read previous reviews about the hotel staff not being very friendly. We were treated well but I wouldn't say the staff was overly friendly like you would expect in most B&Bs or hotels. They are more "matter of fact" and don't interact with the guests. The Cary House offers a very good room rate and you can't beat the location. The internet service was great. Hope you enjoy your stay!
