A group of girlfriends and I stayed here in October for my birthday. The place is not a bed and breakfast or hotel, but something in between. The rooms we were in were gorgeous and we had a shared deck between the 2 so it was easy to get back and forth between the rooms. We stayed in "the kitchen"...

I wanted to love this place after reading an article in the WSJ...but I think the article was a couple years old and the place is just not being kept up. Its a very cool idea...older estate, made into rooms. I, however, did not think the decor was great (kind of mix/match), I could hear the guy snoring in the...

Liz; Thank you so much for taking the time to post about the Madrones. We asked our innkeeper and she recalled you, noting that she did spend time trying to assist you with concerns while on site. She mentioned working with you prior to your arrival as you requested a room with balcony, fireplace and view of the vineyard, which...

At The Madrones in Philo, you'll pay a premium price for a less than premium experience. It feels as though the guest experience is an afterthought, especially considering the $300 per-night price tag. On our first night the WiFi went down around 10:30 at night. It was still down when we woke up the next morning. Wifi is essential because...

Dear “Assassin”ator ;-) We are so sad to hear your birthday experience was not what you hoped. At least you were able to enjoy the bubbles with left in your room to celebrate. At the Madrones, we are always striving to improve our guest experience and ensure it is a place where people feel comfortable and want to return. Your...

Didn't stay here but we did stop en route to Mendocino, via Anderson Valley Brewery for an hour of wine tasting. 4 different tasting rooms, very intimate, engaging and friendly experiences. You get the chance to talk about the wines, the two tastings were free (though we did buy wine ), with Signal Ridge being our favourite! Recommend!

We've stayed at the Madrones since it first opened with a few rooms, plus one winery on the property. Now there are 4 wineries, a wood-fired oven and cafe, more rooms available and an antique gallery. All the rooms are tastefully appointed with stylish furniture and artwork set in a serene setting. The attention to detail is apparent throughout the...

We stayed in the Garden View Room and completely enjoyed our stay. We had an unexpected late check in which was easily accommodated with prompt communication from staff. The room was extremely comfortable, quiet, and private. Breakfast of cereal, yogurt, juice and banana bread was prefect and all we needed. Dishes and glassware were provided and having a "kitchen" sink...

I am writing this a little late as we stayed in February 2016. We went up for a quick weekend vacation from San Francisco to avoid some of the Super Bowl chaos. We stopped at a couple of wineries and dinner on the way up and arrived in the evening. No one was there to check us in but they...

We stayed here last weekend. The Garden View room really does have a wonderful view of a lovely garden. It has high ceilings, large/ tall windows and a very comfortable bed. I think it is everything you come to this area for: Rural, quiet, friendly, lovely and most of all peaceful. I liked this room because it is away from...

We stayed in the Fallers Cabin for one nite. Cute little place, and comfortable, but very close to the road, which generated quite a bit of noise. the main Madrones facility looks quite cool, and we did enjoy the wines at Drew and Bink. Great location, and Anderson Valley is truly a wonderful little piece of the world.

I spent two nights at The Madrones. We stayed in Room IV, which was very large and had two queen beds. It was above the Stone and Embers restaurant, but we did not hear or smell anything from the restaurant. The room had a view of the vineyard next door. It was very comfortable and spacious. There are four tasting...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As seen in Sunset, Food & Wine and Departures Magazines, The Madrones is an Agriturismo style destination which offers just four luxurious guest quarters for travelers who seek something unique and intimate in rural setting. This is not a hotel or B&B, so the service is very low touch...no daily maid service is provided. Perfect for travelers looking for a place to get away without someone hovering over you. If you are looking for accommodations rich in amenities, such as spas, restaurants, room service & breakfast, this is probably not a good fit. Surrounded by vineyards and wineries in the heart of the Anderson Valley, this Mediterranean styled compound which was originally a home and private business has garnered prestigious national awards and recognition. The property has four separate tasting rooms offering local small lot wines, as well as a curiosity store, cheese counter and private gardens. ... more   less
