Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favorite
There is much to do in Paso Robles and a good way to start off is with a comfortable hotel, offering good value, in a great location. I booked a king room that was very clean and comfortable. Although located right off Hwy 101, rooms are very quiet. During the time I was there, I spoke with three different receptionists and all were friendly, helpful and professional. I took a mid-week solo trip to Paso and chose Black Oak as my base. It is well located to jump on Hwy 46 and travel either east or west to visit the many wine tasting offerings. It is also less than 10 minutes from the downtown square with its unique shops and restaurant variety. Margie's Diner is the restaurant on premises and Black Oak offers you $5.00 off your check or a breakfast 'grab and go' bag till 10:a.m.(obtained at reception) if you need to get on the road. There is also a clean and inviting pool, as well as a spa (hot tub). You will find a large covered patio for those who need the shade, as well as the sunny patio. Pool area has ample patio furniture, matching and good condition. This is an excellent motel location for anyone attending the performances at the Event Center as you can literally walk across the street and you're there. No need to get involved with traffic and parking.

Nice property close off the freeway and not far from the downtown area. Front desk staff very helpful and pleasant. The lobby was clean with complimentary beverages and fruit available. My room was clean and pleasantly furnished. I appreciated the pocket-sized bottle of hand sanitizer I found in my room - a very timely and thoughtful addition to the toiletries provided in the room.

I travel relatively often, both for business and for pleasure. Several years ago I decided to try Best Western Black Oak in Paso Robles to keep costs down for a client. I was so pleasantly surprised and pleased with the property that I have only stayed at BW Black Oak when travelling to Paso Robles. I also began staying at Best Western properties when travelling elsewhere for pleasure. I have yet to be disappointed. While some Best Western properties are better than others, they all have offered clean, modern properties with great service and at a reasonable price. My only "complaint" about BW Black Oak is that their breakfast offering is not nearly as nice as it is at other BW properties. If you've never tried BW Black Oak, or BW properties in general, I think you would be pleasantly surprised, and become a return guest.

Thank you for being a repeat guest and for taking time to write this wonderful review. The staff works really hard to provide a stay that makes you want to return. I am so pleased that we succeeded. Breakfast available for "free" or for purchase is the requirement for Best Western Hotels. Margie's Diner has always fulfilled our breakfast requirements and our Grab n Go option was enhanced during their closure. We surely understand that some of our fellow Best Western members are going above and beyond in the breakfast area. As we have never served breakfast at our location, we try to choose the right price point knowing that you might have to purchase it elsewhere. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

When we are in this area we usually stay here because the hotel is centrally located to everything we need. It is a nice hotel. But for us, because we travel with a child in a wheelchair, we will try to find another location. We booked a wheelchair accessible room and when we got there we found out it was anything but that. The bathroom was not large enough to get the wheelchair in and turn around and the shower was not wheelchair accessible. Not sure how they can advertise that it is wheelchair accessible. Perhaps they should sit in a wheelchair and try to use the bathroom themselves.

I am sorry that our room with two queen beds was not accessible for your needs. We have had several guests in wheelchairs that have not had issues with usage, but do understand different chairs could cause issues. While this is an accessible room as well, it is not indicated to be a roll in shower in the room description, only a walk in shower. We do have a room available that is roll in, but has a king and sofa sleeper as opposed to the two queen beds that were booked. I am sorry that the staff did not ask more questions to determine your needs. While we understand if you choose not to return to our location, we hope your stay here will not deter you from Best Western Hotels in the future. Angela McKee, General Manager

I risked it by going during COVID but BW was great. Plexiglass in the front office between guest and worker. The room smelled clean but not toxic. Hand sanitizer was left in the bathroom area. It had a nice little microwave, refrigerator, and a small jar of wrapped candy (I don’t care for candy but I thought it was a nice treat. The bed was very comfortable! A ceiling fan was a nice touch too. The pool had just opened bc of Stage 3 and the chairs/table were separated with yellow tape reminding people to practice social distance. Their restaurant was still closed but Starbucks, Bubba’s Ribs, and a Mexican place were a hop, skip, and a jump away. Now, Paso wasn’t hit hard with COVID so I’m assuming that is why the locals were not in masks. I was the odd one out by wearing mine. I ate at Bubba’s Ribs and it was very good. Rack of ribs and sweet corn get 5 stars. Overall, nice BW. Only about 7 cars total. I’m assuming people are not traveling yet. Oh, I used the fitness center which made for a nice workout after driving all day. I would stay again!

This is our second stay at this Best Western. It's very convenient off major highways. The staff is courteous, comfortable with a good COVID protocol. We stayed in a king room that was spacious. My only suggestion to the management is to add some type of goose down (or equivalent) pillow. The foam pillows are clean but too thick for some sleepers

Thank you for being a repeat guest! We are so glad that you enjoyed your accommodations enough the first trip to select us again. We love our repeat customers. Best Western is in the process of upgrading to a new pillow line and offering three types available. We hope that we can provide one that will fit your needs on a subsequent trip. While we do not put down pillows in the rooms regularly, they may be available upon request at most properties. We look forward to seeing your again soon.

The hotel’s conveniently located just off HWY 46 in Paso Robles and it has a great outdoor pool. However, the rooms could use a refresh and the mattress was too soft. Granted others may disagree but my back’s still aching. I seriously considered sleeping on the floor.
The did provide Grab ‘N Go breakfast bags and coffee but they weren’t very gluten-free friendly.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We are sorry that we did not meet your sleep expectations. We receive rave reviews on our mattresses, but know that firm/soft preference is subjective. I also apologize for not providing more gluten free options. Our bags include fruit and string cheese and juice in addition to the muffin and granola bar. While we try to offer a bit of variety, the grab and go bags aren't everyone's usual breakfast choices for sure. We do hope that you might give us another try on a future trip to Paso Robles, and hope your stay here will not deter you from Best Western Hotels and Resorts in the future.

This is a great location for touring Paso Robles for a couple days. Staff is friendly and helpful. The housekeeping staff was very accommodating with our requests and did an excellent job of keeping our room clean and tidy. There is a good diner basically on site. Not open for dinner, that wasn't an issue for us. They were also very nice. Our room was spacious enough we were all comfortable and able to relax after days of sight seeing and wine tasting.

We were greeted warmly and with fresh baked cookies. Our room was very large, clean and well appointed. There were no problems parking near the room. The location was excellent. Understandably during Covid times the breakfast buffet was not available. We were given a choice of a $3.00 credit per person at Margie's Diner next store or a "grab and go" bag. We didnt have the time to sit in a diner so we chose the bag. It left a lot to be desired.
We would stay there again on our next trip to Paso Robles.

Nice rooms. A little pricey, but Paso has become a bit of a tourist trap for wine touring. Hot tub was broken (they claim they couldn't get a replacement part). Breakfast choices were a small apple in a plastic bag or a $3 coupon for the diner next door (where coffee cost $4 a cup).

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. We have been trying to locate a special pump since May of 2021. It has been a nation wide search so it is not a "claim", it is the honest truth. We have to have a special release in case of entrapment and for whatever reason, there is a shortage of them. The explanation of our Grab and Go bag is a bit misleading to other guests that may be reading your review. There is instant oatmeal, an apple, granola bar, string cheese and bottled water. We offer free coffee in our lobby and suggest taking it with you to the restaurant as the $3 off voucher actually equates to 25-35% off an entree depending on what you order. Both offerings while not required by Best Western, we feel add value to the guest stay. I am sorry you felt otherwise and hope that your accommodations were to your liking.

I don't remember just call they are very friendly
We are offering a grab and go breakfast with a piece of fruit, string cheese, granola bar and water. Margie's Diner is now reopened and serving breakfast for a charge (which fulfills the Best Western requirement for breakfast available) and is open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.
We are 1 mile from Historic Downtown Paso Robles. Farmer's Market occurs on Tuesday afternoons at the City Park between 3 and 5:30. Restaurants within walking distance are Rustic Fire Pizza, Good Ol' Burgers, Tortilla Town, Margie's Diner and Big Bubba's Bad BBQ. Also several fast food restaurants and Denny's. All great questions.
I am sorry but we are a pet free facility. There are some lovely hotels in Paso Robles that are pet friendly.
We do not offer the usual included continental breakfast as the majority of our Best Western family members do. However, just as many of our guests have noted above, we partner with a locally owned diner on our property. With your breakfast coupon you get free coffee as well as $5.00 off any entree which as they stated are huge! I swear they use ostrich eggs for their omelets because I don't know many chickens that could put out three eggs that would make an omelet that size. We did also install an elevator in 2014, conveniently located in the center of our property. We look forward to the opportunity to host you. Angela McKee, General Manager
