Great mix of old and new. Super comfortable and if you don't mind sharing a bathroom, the prices are great for Palo Alto. Sitting in the lobby lounge withe roaring fire place and old style deco with super high ceiling I feel like I'm in some kind of 1950s movie. Staff very helpful and courteous.

Warm greetings Richard, Thank you for sharing your experience. We're thrilled you enjoyed your stay and the history of our hotel, and we have much of our storied past on display throughout the lobby. That roaring fireplace is also one of my favorite features. I noticed you visited us from Paris, I hope you enjoyed a bite to eat at...

The Cardinal Hotel is a pure delight for any traveler that longs for the comfort and character of a timeliness stay. The lobby is large, airy and graced by a large wooden desk with brass keys and mail slots recalling an age gone by. The modern fixtures, fittings and care provide comfort and convenience for even the most overworked electronic...

Greetings, Michael. What a wonderful review! It paints such a vivid picture of the experience we strive to provide for each of our guests. A stay at the Cardinal Hotel really is like stepping back in time. One of my favorite things about our hotel is that we truly have the opportunity to get to know our guests. I will...

We know Palo Alto since before the Silicon Valley explosion, so It is nice to see the Cardinal has made it over the years. The location can hardly be beat. It is hard to believe the number of restaurants in the walking distance. The hotel breakfast is very nice real breakfast. Parking was not half as bad as I expected,...

Dear Kagni, We cannot thank you enough for your kind words. It is hard to believe Cardinal Hotel has been here since 1924! Our rooms have been upgraded recently to provide modern amenities you'd expect from a hotel in Silicon Valley while still maintaining the old world charm that sets us apart. I will pass along the positive feedback about...

I stay at the Cardinal Hotel two or three times a year, and have for may be the past decade. It is a tired hotel, but the rooms have been upgraded, and the prices are sane, at least when compared to the others in Palo Alto. The staff try their bests. Located centrally, the only problem is parking, but I...

Greetings LeFrondeur, Thank you for taking the time to share your review with us. You are certainly a Cardinal Hotel extended family member after ten years! We thank you so much for your loyalty. I agree about our hotel rates being "sane" when compared to other hotels in Palo Alto. While we don't have valet parking, self parking is free...

I loved my stay at the Cardinal. The hotel is cute and charming. HOWEVER, the only downside is that you WILL need to use the earplugs that they so graciously provide. It is an old building so I can understand about the noise levels - a white noise machine should be provided in each room. The staff graciously called my...

Hi Caitlin, thank you for your review and your great feedback. I'm so happy you enjoyed your stay with us and found our hotel charming. Allow me to also personally apologize for the noise coming from your upstairs neighbor. We have Sound + Sleep machines engineered to promote a deep sleep, relaxation and renewal. Whenever I stay in Palo Alto, I always book this hotel if it's an available conference option. Not a chain. A vintage hotel on the historic register. Close to Stanford campus, Caltrain, and many other attractions. Rooms are quiet and clean. Although they have rooms with shared bath, I always book one with private bath. Useful amenities: Free Wifi, inexpensive...

I was here for work, so not sleeping for 4 nights in a row was torture. It is very cute and I love the character, but my room was on the alley side: people slam the dumpster lids all night long. they dump boxes of glass bottles into the dumpsters at 3am. they gather and party at 4am. trucks beep...

I greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback with us, as we find it to be of significant value. I'm sorry the noise prevented you from getting a good night's sleep - the most important part of a hotel stay. You recognized our great location and it is one of our assets. I'd actually rate this hotel as between Average and Very Good, so a 3.5 star rather than just a 3. The hotel itself is quaint and charming in the old-world type of way. If you like history, this hotel has done a pretty good job of preserving a lot of its original setup. However, it does require some upkeep and...

Staying at the Cardinal is like stepping back in time - ornate furnishings and old-world style decor combined with newer amenities. Be sure to try the elevator at least one time! Love the location of this hotel. Close to everything in Palo Alto and fairly reasonable for this area. Lobby retains it's classic 1920's era feel and the old style elevator gives one a bit of concern. However, the rooms are very comfortable with great beds, flat screen TVs and plenty of USB outlets. Services are minimal but front desk is...
