Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
The Cardinal Hotel garners acclaim for its harmonious mix of historical allure and contemporary comforts, with its prime central location near dining and landmarks like Stanford University frequently praised by guests. Reviews often highlight the hotel's tasteful decor, comfortable bedding, and modern conveniences such as ceiling fans and tech features. While the hotel's affordability is appreciated, some visitors mention the absence of air conditioning and private bathrooms. Although service generally receives positive remarks for being friendly and helpful, there have been a few critical comments. The cleanliness of the hotel is consistently lauded, yet opinions on room noise and bathroom sizes vary.

The hotel location is perfect to access downtown Palo Alto and Stanford. The room was a little warm so had to keep the ceiling fan on at night but other than that the hotel is very nice. The staff are very nice and helpful. Shout out to Mehdi Lodin for his help and friendliness!

Hotel's Favorite
I really enjoyed my stay there. I didn't realize how well placed this hotel is until I started walking around. Almost all the popular restaurants that I looked into before traveling where very close to it. It is within walking distance of the Stanford University campus (I was there for a conference). I enjoyed my walk back and forth everyday because the weather was gorgeous. The staff was very attentive, every day housekeeping if you wanted. It took about 20 minutes without traffic from SFO. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that because it's a historic building the window isolation is not that great if your room faces the street. I learned that Palo Alto city workers clean their streets at about 4 am...haha I would still return if I ever need to visit the area again.

This is a very old hotel in a need of improvement. Our room was tiny and reminded a motel room somewhere in Iowa in the 1970s. The breakfast for $22 was really bad, we had it only once. There is no way to have coffee after 10 a.m. in the reception area. and my husband had a problem to get back to our room, his name wasn't added although I submitted an online registration prior to our coming.

No flavor of the past. Just very worn-out carpet in the lobby and throughout the floors. Dimmed lights. Inexistent concierge. Just young guys sitting idle at the desk. If you are on the 2nd floor, you can hear a lot of noise coming from the room above you (3rd floor) as room were renovated putting wood floors and not carpet. Higher hygiene but not optimal for isolation. You could hear the desk chair rolling on the floor. Price/quality ratio awful. Good breakfast but Bistrot Maxime is very very dirty. Only pro: top location

Good hotel in a classic building. Great service from the staff. Location in central Palo Alto is superb. It’s not very modern so be prepared worn down carpets on the stairs etc. Great meeting room free of charge for guests. Tip: Avoid the breakfast and use one of the very good places nearby.

This is my second visit to the Cardinal Hotel. It's in a fabulous location with lots of restaurants nearby from fast casual to fancy. The beds are comfy and I appreciate the ceiling fans with remotes. It's nice to be able to adjust the light and fan without getting out of bed. My only complaint is that the room I was in this time (227) had the tiniest of bathrooms with a stall shower. It was one of those where you need to keep your elbows in to avoid touching the wall or curtian. There is no hope of shaving your legs in there. The room I stayed in last time around had a bathtub sized shower that was great, so I know that is not universal. I enjoyed the breakfast next door that came with our room. Once you figure out how to use their QR code system, it's fast and easy.

We love the Cardinal Hotel so much! This historic hotel (1924) is impeccably maintained. The rooms are spotless and very comfortable with modern technological features seamlessly paired with the historical ambience. The lobby is also beautifully maintained and features some historical touches like a display of the original switchboard desk from 1924. We are looking forward to returning to help the Cardinal celebrate their 100th anniversary next year!

I really enjoyed my stay at about 1/2 the price of nearby hotels. The building is old and charming, but well kept and clean. The rooms have been renovated and feel historic, yet modern. A no frills hotel, but very comfortable, quiet and convenient to all around downtown Palo Alto.

Excellent service from a wonderful staff. Staff provided me with the best local spots to visit. The hotel was ver clean & housekeeping actually does clean your room daily, fresh towels & amenities provided. More than a hotel it’s eclectic and a great historical experience. Minutes from Stanford and all the Palo Alto tourist spots. My experience was great, thanks for being true to your webpage, thats’s a plus! There.s also a great Italian restaurant right next door, another plus!

We used to stay here anytime we needed to be in Palo Alto. However, I forgot to do something really important when making a reservation - ask for a room away from either Hamilton Ave or Ramona. The partying went on until about 1am on Ramona and then at around 4am the municipal workers did everything from street sweeping to garbage pickup. These rooms need to be soundproofed. So unfortunate because this is the best location to stay if you want to savor the stores and restaurants on University Ave.
