Good hotel with all necessary amenities. We got upgraded to a suite. The room has a chimney which is nice. The big plus is the continental breakfast which provides a good variety of good quality and healthy choices.
This wasn't a very relaxing weekend stay for us. The "Preferred Starwood Member" room we received was fine, but nothing extraordinary. It was a nice, larger size room and nicely furnished, but again, nothing special. As others have commented, we had to go next door to the Sheraton to eat, but I think that's a temporary situation while they remodel. The walls and floors are very thin and you hear every conversation next door to your room and every footstep above your room. The train noise was excessive and kept us awake until 11:30 pm on Saturday night when it finally stopped. On Sunday morning, I was awakened at 9 am by the cleaning folks across the hall yelling to each other and vacuuming. I opened the door twice to ask them to please stop, but they were too far inside the room and yelling too loudly to hear me calling to them. We wouldn't recommend. Oh, and if you self-park your car ($20 instead of valet at $25), approach the toll booth slowly when you exit, as it's a real sharp turn and easy to damage your vehicle.…
I spent a week at the Sheraton right next door, you actually share the parking lot, then I moved to the Westin expecting a much better experience, it was the opposite, I feel robbed! The restaurant you have to use is the one at the Sheraton, the rooms are way smaller, the room service is a nightmare and you don’t have a bar, coffee or a place to have breakfast here. By far the worst Westin I have ever stayed, as a chain they should keep the standard or remove the name to a much much cheaper brand, long story short, don’t over pay if you need a hotel in Palo Alto, stay at the Sheraton, don’t trust the photos at the website, the photographer is a magician! The staff is very kind and try to make the best out of an awful place, but the facilities are not at a decent standard, everything at this hotel is either broken or age worn. …
I had a big room with a good sized bathroom that included both a shower and a separate tub. When was the last time you saw that in a hotel? There were enough plugs in the room, but only two at the desk. Others were on one nightstand, with a variety of charger cords on the other. Okay, but not idea. Gym isn't gigantic but had four or five treadmills, some bikes, and a bit more. Good enough. Location is fine, just a few blocks from downtown and from the CalTrain. I would stay here again.
I would recommend staying at the Westin Palo Alto. It is well located, walking distance to Palo Alto shops and restaurants as well as Stanford. The front desk staff was very accommodating and was able to get us into our room for an early check-in. As titanium Bonvoy members we were given an upgrade to a suite which was lovely. Yes, the rooms could use a facelift, but everything was comfortable and clean.
