We went to Palmdale to visit a friend. Got in early and Christian at the front desk gave us an upgrade due to my Titanium Status. He was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area restaurants. He also informed us that the only thing that is not finished in the renovation is the swimming pool- which we did not need anyway. The renovation is finished- everything looked nice and new in our room and in working order. I was amazed at how shinny the Frig was! The room is very nice and clean- and there is even new wall paper in the bathroom. The bed is comfortable. Breakfast was OK- had eggs, sausages, fruit, and can make waffles. We were happy with our two night stay. People were very friendly. The only slight problem was some people came in late on Saturday night and were laughing and making little noise.

This hotel was hands down the worst experience we had on our month long trip around the USA. We made the terrible mistake of arriving at 2.30pm and asking if we could check in. This was obviously a big problem because we were informed quite rudely that check in was not until 3pm. I mean come on 30 minutes early what were we thinking. Then we asked if we could leave our luggage and come back later to check in. The answer to that was NO. We could leave our bags in the foyer but they accepted no responsibility! Never ever heard that at a hotel before. Then after waiting till 3.15pm our room was finally ready. We explained that the only request we had made when we booked directly with Marriott was not to get a ground floor room. Guess what we got. After telling them that our son gets scared on ground floor rooms they said that’s all we got. Then later that night we were woken at around 10pm with people running up and down the internal fire escape. After an hour of this I called the front desk and they told me a school group had just checked in earlier and some of them were on the ground floor and some on the first floor and it’s quicker for them to use the stairs than wait for the lift. So much for that rubbish we were told at check in about only ground floor rooms available. Worst hotel experience ever.

First, the disclaimer on the Palmdale reviews I am writing ... We were in Lancaster three times for State Cup this year. Indeed, expectations need to be lowered on all fronts the moment one steps foot into this town; however, there are some basic hospitality concepts that I expect everywhere, especially from a hotel chain. We stayed at this hotel on two different occasions this month. On a positive note, I got an amazing deal on Hotwire the first time around and unlike the hotel we stayed at previously in Palmdale, we enjoyed the "suite" with the kitchen and had more room. Not knowing if we'd win our games the following day, I did not book the discounted Hotwire rate for the following evening. It was a bummer to pay quite a bit more once we confirmed we'd advance but we didn't want to incur the burden of having to move to a different hotel. On this particular occasion, the indoor pool was under construction so we went across the street to the Courtyard Marriott where some of our other teammates were staying and swam there. The complimentary breakfast sufficed for getting coffee, bananas and yogurt. The on-site laundromat was convenient. Ethan at the front desk was lovely. Second stay was not so pleasant. This time I called in advance to see if I could somehow lock in a comparable rate for the second evening - and I would let them know promptly at 10 am when our game ended on whether or not we would need to stay. They were not willing to accommodate us on this request. No flexibility with a repeat patron means I'm not going to have flexibility in turning a blind eye to the shortcomings of this hotel. They're going to renovate, great news! But why in the world would the hotel renovation overlap with State Cup season???? We were on the second floor and had a notice in our room that renovations were beginning on the third floor, from 10 am - 6 pm. It was unbearably loud. Our room had a closet that wouldn't close, a refrigerator that creaked all night long, and on and on and on. This time I felt really ripped off. But it forced us to move on to a different hotel, which ended up being the winner of the three we've experienced this State Cup season.

The good - pleasant staff. Location close to mall and soccer fields. Free breakfast was decent. The ugly - time warp to 1980. Dated rooms and lobby. Wanted to charge $10 for parking - ridiculous. Windows not sound proof at all. We had courtyard noise (music played all night long - and it was Hotel music - so weird). Friends had street noise on their side of hotel. I’d stay there if better places booked but Marriott Element or Courtyard next door are better options. Two weeks later we stayed at the Embassy suites in Palmdale and it was soooo much nicer.
