Originally built in 1936 by reputed Purple Gang Mobster Al Wertheimer, the Colony Palms Hotel was once a saloon, speakeasy and gambling house that later became a playground for Hollywood ICONS including Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, Clark Gable, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin & Rita Hayworth. Colony Palms Hotel has maintained its nobility as a stunning four-star boutique hotel spread out over a three acre property. The rooms promise subtle sophistication with brilliantly colored mosaic tiles and fabrics, rich woods, and suzani headboards. Many have fireplaces and claw-foot bathtubs. Mature gardens throughout the property provide privacy, and intimate outdoor spaces, and the rooms open to the a central courtyard with pool. The hotel’s restaurant, the Purple Palm boasts exquisite cuisine and a stunning view of both the pool and San Jacinto Mountains. The newly redesigned Spa offers a serene atmosphere and top of the line treatments. Colony Palms Hotel also plays host to a variety of stunning weddings and events, with the option of utilizing a newly refreshed private event space or a full property buyout for a truly intimate celebration. Colony Palms Hotel is a mix of modern luxuries with a dash of romance and tranquil getaway.

The Colony Palms Hotel is a sanctuary of tranquility and style, nestled in a prime location that guests love for its proximity to local hotspots. Travelers often laud the hotel's amenities, particularly the pool and unique decor, which contribute to the relaxing ambiance. While the service is generally seen as exceptional, with staff providing personalized care, there are occasional mentions of service inconsistencies and maintenance needs. Despite its cleanliness and charming atmosphere, some guests feel the value is diminished by high prices and less impressive room features.

I had a chance to book a last minute getaway here after not having stayed for several years. The hotel has recently been assumed by new ownership and the renovation and upgrades are nothing short of magnificent. The deluxe room category, while small, is beautifully appointed and the bedding was comfortable. Really nice soft touches like Frette towels and linens made it extra special.

The outside spaces are reminiscent of old Hollywood and are very comfortable for lounging and relaxing.I was especially impressed with the restaurant and the service around the pool which is often lacking in the desert. It was warm and genuine and the food quality was superb.

There were a few issues I had staying here which, if corrected, could make this hotel one of the best boutique hotels on the west coast. The hotel is expensive, and in order to live up to its expense can improve in the following areas:

1. Although check-out time was at 11am I was planning to spend the rest of the afternoon at the hotel to use the pool and facilities. To my dismay there was no shower I could use to get ready for my trip home (which wasn't until the evening). There should, at minimum ,be an outdoor shower that people can rinse off from after using the pool before departing. I was forced to leave much earlier than expected which cut my trip short by an entire day. When I asked the front desk for assistance they were completely inflexible and totally indifferent.

2. I would also expect a hotel of this category to provide some element of bottled water complimentary in the room every day. I think when paying up to $500/night it's ridiculous to have to pay $9 for a bottle of Evian in the room to have some clean drinking water. At the same time my toiletries were never replaced by housekeeping when used up. These are attention to details that truly make a difference.

If ownership corrects these elements which are fairly simple, I do believe this would be the best place to stay in the desert hands down.

I love this property and the grounds. I have been coming here for years under different ownership. The experience has changed but it’s still beautiful and pricier. The new owner who does not believe in providing full length mirrors or good lighting. So for you Instagram glamorous types bring your own. The gardens, fire pit, pool and vibe is relaxing. The pool service spotty but if you get the right person they will do anything for you. If you want coffee in the morning before 8am forget it. They used to have it by the bar early on the go. You can’t even order a pot for your room before 8am so that’s a thing if you like to have coffee early.

One odd bit, my room had a working fireplace but if I wanted to use it, I had to have someone come in my room to turn it on. It’s their new policy. So during Covid times, just make sure you know you will have to have someone come in your room for that amenity. I brought my dog and they did not tell me before staying that you can’t leave your dog in the room if you go out. It was fine, he was quiet and no complaints, but it’s good to know before you go.

My wife and I were on our first trip away from the kids on about 1.5yrs and the Colony Palms came to the rescue. We were initially staying at another hotel in PS and had to leave on our first night at 11:45PM due to some unfortunate events. We tried calling another hotel we are Damian with in the area, but they had no availability, but suggested calling Colony. Thank goodness we did. Ben was working the night shift and immediately helped us get a room and was on the ready for our last minute arrival. We were greeted with great enthusiasm as he really made sure we were happy and comfortable.

The grounds are beautiful and the rooms are really nice too. Probably one of the best showers you can get AND they use Le Labo which might resonate with some people.

The hotel was recently renovated which makes the hotel have a nice fresh feel.

It is conveniently located in walking distance to the main strip which is always nice.

Just book it people.

Where does one begin? From the women's hair in our bathroom at check in (we are two gay men, this was not our hair) to the restaurant manager offering us a round at the bar due to a delay to then refusing to pay for them (was trying to blame it on our waiter), I've never had such a horrible service in my life. I've worked in hospitality for years and while COVID has caused major issues in the service business (something I truly sympathize with), there is no excuse for the service we've had since checking in. Housekeeping doesnt show up, Ive had to pour my own drinks in the restaurant (not exaggerating) and they have one valet serving a hotel with 50 rooms....
We are currently spending $800.00+ a night, at $800.00 a night, you shouldn't wait 30+ minutes for a drink (to then have management scold you for being unreasonable), call three times in one day to have your room made up or have to call valet 20 minutes before you need your car, to then have to wait another ten just to leave.

The owner of the property is an interior designer and cares much more about ascetic than customer service....and he hasn't even done the interiors right, the wallpaper is pealing off the wall in our room...so much for a "transformation".

Id rather go on a Carnival Cruise with a COVID breakout then check back into this hotel.

If you're spending $760 a night (pre resort fees) for one of the more basic room options (most basic was $700) you would expect a 5 star room and 5 star service all the way around. We were staying here to celebrate getting engaged, and it was a mistake. Candidly, the only redeemable quality about the hotel is it looks good in photos. Oh, and we made lots of friends at the pool who shared similar sentiments as you'll find below.

Our stay was centered around the pool as was everyone else who was a patron of the hotel. On Friday and Saturday only one server was working the ENTIRE pool area trying to get drinks and water to everyone, and was busting his ass, but had to be so frustrated. There was also only one bartender trying to make cocktails for the restaurant and pool at the same time, both of which were packed sun up to sundown. To make matters worse, they RAN OUT of olive juice at 2pm on a Friday and the first drink listed on the menu is a martini (insert laughing emoji). One server Sunday by the pool, her third day on the job – she was a gem – worked so hard, was so kind, but visibly overwhelmed (who wouldn't be).

I get that it is COVID so I give a little grace, but if you're going to charge 5-star pricing I expect 5 star service. There has to be a million people looking for good solid work, so at $700+/night they need to hire more people and buy more olives. The room was dark, zero natural light, as not enjoyable to be in other than a comfortable bed. Big time let down.

We’ve stayed at this resort pre & post renovation and here’s the breakdown:

1) Reception: there was one competent woman working who was gracious enough to let us change rooms
from the $1000/night dungeon room to the $1000/night far better room. The other two receptionists were either entirely & visibly miserable/unhelpful or entirely & visibly clueless.

2) Spa: the grossest and dirtiest place we’ve ever been. Honestly, gas station bathrooms are cleaner (we’re talking actual sh*t all over the toilet and stall). The $300 massage was entirely overpriced considering what an actual dump the place was BUT the massage therapist was awesome and the only salvation. Too bad it was her last week there…(which speaks volumes of the management)

3) Room renovation - great but then small, stupid stuff like no toilet paper and no complimentary water, tea, coffee…anything. This is $1,000/night…give us a g*ddamned pen or h2o bottle at the very least. Don’t be a cheap *ss.

4) Pool Staff: the hotel was 100% booked and they had one person waiting on the entire pool area + a trainee. One. Person. Mind blown.

5) Restaurant: can’t speak to dinner but the breakfast and two lunches we had were vile. Shame bc the menu looks great but everything we ate was actually gross.

General:
Most staff were truly awesome and it’s clear that the management is to blame. Others had very clearly make the wrong career choice.

Will never stay here again at this rate bc when we pay $1000+/night then we want to feel like we’re at hotel worthy of $1000+/night…this fell far short of that standard. Embarrassingly so.

Ps. We were told we had to ‘request housekeeping’ and when we did, they threw a shopping bag of brand new tennis sneakers away. I mean…wow..

The Colony Palms is by far the most beautiful, polished and comfortable hotel in Palm Springs and one of the best we’ve ever visited. We came here for our mini-moon when they first reopened after the refurbishment two years ago and loved it so much that we returned for our 2nd anniversary for three nights.

As soon as you walk through the green archway entrance you’re in a peaceful and chic sanctuary. The grounds have little carved out spaces for privacy while not being overwhelmingly big. The heated pool and comfy chairs/daybeds to layout in are relaxing as can be while you stare out at the surrounding desert mountains and palm trees with tranquil groovy music playing. It’s the perfect Palm Springs vibe and you won’t forget the feeling laying there taking it all in as you read a good book, play cards, or sip a poolside paloma or Arnold Palmer.

The customer service was A+ from booking, to checkin, to adding extra day and making sure our room was always comfortable with the fireplace lit. Shoutout to Roberta! They were super accommodating with our dog there and made sure he had water when we laid by the pool. Great poolside staff.

Our room was cozy and welcoming as can be starting with the personalized name plates on the door (incredible touch). Bed and pillows were comfortable and silky, loved the claw foot tub overlooking the mountains, big shower, porch deck with seats for some evening cocktails and extra love to the fireplace in our room. Each night they left special treats and eye masks for us too. Personal touches galore which were much appreciated.

What more can I say? It’s a timeless and stylish space all around and you’ll feel like Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward when you’re there. Sensational stay. Thank you Colony Palms crew!

We have been traveling to Palm Springs for years and always stay at The Colony Palms. We have seen several turnovers in ownership, some were disappointing and some have been more positive as was the case this time. Overall we had an exceptional experience. The redecoration is nice and was much needed. We found the staff very friendly and accommodating, especially Robert who works in the restaurant and does pool service. The room was nice and we appreciated the updates. The only negative aside from perhaps the daily parking fee of $35, was the fact that they only have espresso machines, not coffee machines in the rooms. I can live with this if coffee is made available in the office/reception area early in the morning. (as it has been under previous ownership) For it not even to be available for purchase before 8 a.m. was a major inconvenience especially if you are looking to get out early for a jog or a hike. It got very old walking to the neighborhood coffee shop each morning. I will definitely return, but I hope there is coffee available on site and early for my next visit!

My wife and I stayed at the Colony Palms Hotel for our 'babymoon' and wouldn't have changed a thing. The property, room, food, and service were beyond compare. Denise at the front desk and Martin, the valet, went above and beyond. The grounds were impeccable and created the perfect atmosphere to relax - in comfort and style. The pool area was well-kept and poolside service was always nearby if you needed anything. Highly recommend this hotel and assure you we'll be back...as soon as we can.

I came here after having a bad experience at a hotel down the way and I was kicking myself that I didn’t think to come here first. We were greeted by the friendliest staff, immediately offered champagne and a quick history lesson about the grounds. We stayed for two days in a bungalow and it was magical. The room was tidy and had a great design element to it. The location is right near the main downtown area, making everything you need fairly walkable. The restaurant ,The Purple Palm, was fantastic. Great dinner selection that was clearly made with care, delicious cocktails and a lovely wine menu. This place is great for a solo or couples trip. Beautiful and romantic with the perfect location.

If you are into hiking Taquiz Canyon a great choice. More adventurous and don’t mind the cold , take Palm Springs tram up and hike around . Sunny land is also a good place to stop in . No need to pay for the tour just enjoy the grounds and go into visitors center to see exhibits and the film
