Travelers' Choice
A jewel box nestled in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, the historic Avalon Hotel and Bungalows Palm Springs rests at the foot of the rugged San Jacinto Mountains on four acres of fragrant, beautifully manicured gardens. Its Spanish architecture punctuated by a series of secluded, private bungalows, calls forth the iconic, storied Golden Age of Palm Springs, exuberantly updated with Hollywood Regency interiors by renowned designer Kelly Wearstler. At Avalon every experience has been hand-curated by a team of collaborators and bona fide hotel aficionados. You might say it's a calling. A penchant for wanderlust. A mind for singular retreats and unrepeatable vibes. We hold an affinity for one-offs, anomalies and the irrefutable allure of a personal touch. Our trademarks are small batched. Think of us as your own private hideaway. All you have to do is stay.

Amazing location, amenities, food and service. The rooms are dated and need improvement. If they remodel their rooms, the Avalon will be for sure the best hotel to stay at. Food and drinks were surprisingly nice!

This hotel is listed at about $800 a night on Marriott app. It is old, out-dated, and small. This doesn’t mean it was chic. The “Bungalows” are not every room as we found out when we got our small bedroom. Arrived at 2 and had to wait till almost exactly 4 to get our room (check-in time). Not a big deal but guests arriving after us didn’t have to wait. Don’t know why. We went to the restaurant (Chi Chi) to wait it out as we wanted a drink before we got our room and changed for our dinner in Palm Springs. The Chi-Chi is a rip off and the female server we had (didn’t get name) was rude. After we ordered and received our drinks we were told we had to buy over priced food. House rules. We were not planning on eating as we just wanted our room so we could freshen up before our dinner date elsewhere. Drinks were expensive and the Ceviche tasted like harbor water. $100 later we were disappointed and now late for dinner. The spa was nice; however, two 90 minutes massages cost almost $600! The spa is small with no real lounging or social area for couples to relax outside of a small room right by the front door. Way over priced for the services offered. There are far better places to stay in Palm Springs for the price and the Avalon is a pour representation for a Marriott property.

The hotel was extremely outdated - although it does look like they were renovating a room next to us. Unfortunately we did not have a rennovated room - just dealt with the construction next door. For a dog friendly hotel, this means that there are dogs EVERYWHERE. Barking, running around the pool, it's definitely not relaxing. For a hotel that charges 5 star rates - you're better off saving your money. We left after the first night and went next door to the La Serena Villas. Less expensive and 10x better!

Upgraded to a Cottage and was rewarded with the worst Bed I’ve ever experienced not getting any sleep in. The bed frame had sharp metal corners on it, and you guest it, we stepped ourselves endlessly walking around the perimeter of the bed. Was told our kitchen had full amenities but turned out it didn’t have a coffee maker or any basic courtesies you’d find in a motel 6. If you’re going to rent an upscale at $500+ Save you money and think of a vacation rental where at least the owners think about the guests experiences before we write a review.

If you select The Avalon based on how their rooms look on their website you will be severely disappointed. The website is very misleading. The rooms are worn, need updating, bathrooms need paint. Apparently most rooms have no dressers. Room technology is old. AC is old, loud. Phone is from another decade. On a positive note, the bathroom amenities are very good. Staff is very friendly.
