Beautiful grounds, well maintained. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff. This was the perfect girls trip destination. It was equal parts relaxing and fun. The pools are clean and the temp was perfectly refreshing on a 100+ degree day.
Great staff, great food, great dink! We had a wonderful time at this Hotel. Very classic Hollywood vibe to it. The pool service was prompt and courteous. The food options were fantastic., you really don't need to leave this place its a one stop shop!! Room was clean, grounds were quiet and calm. Although kids are allowed, we didn't see any children. We had a classy elegant dinner at Melvyns (next door). The ambiance was terrific!
I will be back. A discount for returning customers would be great! I said it all I’m just typing more to complete the 200 characters. An email for deals would be awesome. I come a couple times every summer.
This is my fourth day at the Avalon on a solo vacation, and everything has been just lovely. I'm in a premium poolside king (#401), and looking at the other negative room reviews on this site is like reading about an entirely different hotel; the decor is nice (if not quite perfect), bed is super comfy, bathroom is brand new with plenty of counter space, AC works well, and the in-room fridge is a nice bonus. The property grounds are gorgeous now as when I first visited 15 years ago. The staff is wonderful, and pool-side service is spot on. The food and bev at Chi Chi is very good. All in all a perfect stay, and I will definitely be back!
Living a few miles away, and needing to go somewhere, we chose the Avalon Hotel. We expected something nice, but were blown away at just how nice it was. You would never know you were in the middle of a major city. It was so quiet, peaceful and that so called diamond in the rough. We were walking distance to most of Palm Springs. If your looking for the action and noise at a major resort, forget the Avalon. For a nice, restful and most enjoyable rest, this is the place for you !!
When our flight was cancelled due to weather we quickly looked for a downtown Marriott property and found this gem. From the easy reservation experience, to the friendly valets, to sparkling wine at reception this hotel exudes warmth. The mid-century vibe is charming and the rooms are well done without losing the original charm of the vintage property. Order a Watermelon Splash poolside-you won’t be disappointed!
Overall the staff is the best part of this hotel. We booked this room very last minute with points and I think they gave us their worst room on the property. Reminded me of my college dorm. The value of this room was $800 for the night. I would have never paid more than $200 for the type of room we had. I wouldn't recommend unless you are guaranteed one of their nicer rooms.
Come for drinks and the beautiful grounds but don't book a room. The rooms haven't been updates since the 70's and need a full gut renovation. The carpet is old and disgusting and the walls are patched up and haven't been painted. The appliances are also old and the decor is simply dated. The grounds are beautiful but you don't have to stay at the hotel to enjoy a drink and have a dip in their 3 pools. In fact the majority of people at the pool aren't guests. At check out you get hit with about 10 additional fees regardless of whether you used the services or not including a $50 day spa fee and a $35 a day pool fee. The total daily cost for our room came out to $800 a day because of the hidden fees. We felt ripped off.
We stopped in at the Avalon Hotel for a drink and to check it out. The entry way features a koi pond and then you are led away from the busy street into a resort-like oasis. The setting is intimate and exactly what you’d like on a get away. The bar was well stocked, and the bartender, John, was highly competent and friendly. The three pools and bungalows were attractive and inviting. There is also a hotel section in addition to the bungalows. Staff were friendly and attentive. Possible future stay…….
We stayed here on Marriott points for a long weekend. We were given an absurdly bad room that lacked view, balcony and space. After one night of our three night stay, I politely asked for a better room and they upgraded us to a room that felt like it was in a different universe. It was still small, but it was cleverly appointed, Palm Springs "sexy" and fun. Hard to believe the two rooms are part of the same hotel. The staff was very friendly, the location superb and the overall vibe what we wanted in Palm Springs. Prices for food and drink were absurdly high. There were a variety of pools to chose from and the whole property is laid out in a Hollywood-bungalow style. Would we stay here again? Yes, but only if we knew exactly what room we were getting.
