Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
I'm so glad I chose this special place to stay at during my Palm Springs visit. I typically stay at chain hotels just for the convenience and the familiarity, but something about this place looked unique and it did not disappoint at all. The property and the rooms are exactly how they're described and shown on their social media.
It felt like I was stepping back in time because the room had such amazing little details everywhere. From a real record player with records, to the original bathroom and mid century furniture. It felt swanky and comfortable.
I stayed in the Ricky and Lucy suite. The bed was big and comfy and they were even kind enough to provide tasty snacks next to the coffee maker.
It's walking distance to some great restaurants and places to grab a cocktail. The pool was not crowded at all, and there was plenty of free parking on the street and the area felt and looked very safe.
Overall, it was a great experience and didn't break the bank.
Pros: location , vibe, rooms, pool, extras.
Cons: The entry to the shower was pretty tight as it is the legit original tile shower and people were smaller back then. Might be an issue for horizontally larger people.
Will return and recommend! Great job Hideaway team.

The Hideaway was such a wonderful stay. I really loved the mid century modern design, along with adorable record player in your room. Generous complimentary snacks and drinks. The room was very spacious, plenty of room to spread out, eat lunch, or take a lovely nap. The bed was so comfortable!
The shower had great water pressure. The pool was perfect, and so quiet and relaxing. I always had plenty of towels.
Hotel is close to downtown restaurants and shops, everything is very close by!
The staff is so friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend for your next stay in Palm Springs!

My husband and I stayed here for two nights at the end of March. We've stayed at larger hotels in the area in the past and the Hideaway is our new fave. We loved the small scale of the property and the 2 people per room / no pets / no children policy as well as the mid-century vibe. The location was spectacular, just a few blocks off the main strip but far enough away that it was peaceful and quiet. Rooms have been updated but are not super "new," so if that matters to you, be aware. We brought a small cooler with us, which came in handy poolside. The hotel is in walking distance of the Museum Trail / North Lykken Trail, which was pretty strenuous but doable once the sun was behind the mountains (we saw some bighorn sheep!). The only downside of our visit, which I assume is temporary, is that the pool was not heated as advertised. My husband dove in anyway but there was no way I could do so given how cold it was.

My girlfriend and I stayed here 4 nights during our visit to Modernism Week. The location was perfect---good street parking and within walking distance to the commercial area of downtown Palm Springs. The property has a lovely pool and is extremely quiet. Landscape is well maintained. It is a designated historic property.
We had a large suite corner/end room (#111) with ample space, and it included a small kitchenette, of which we used only the refrigerator. Bed; excellent; linens and towels: good.. The bathroom is in need of updating. Mirrors are a bit rusty, sink and counter extremely low, step down shower with an opening that is narrow; shower space is small. It was fine for us ... we are short and tiny, but it wouldn't work for either of our husbands who are tall and around 225 pounds. I could not bring my husband to this hotel and have him be comfortable in the bathroom
Know there is no staff on property, however communication via text messaging is excellent.
Also, know that there is no restaurant or even a cafe on property. This, in my opinion, is a big negative. Yes, there is a small pod coffee machine and a couple of granola bars. But, if you want a good cup of coffee (or coffee drink) and something more than a granola bar, you must leave the property and go into town. We did not want to purchase groceries and make our breakfast before heading out, usually by 7:30 AM to make our first tours.
Accommodation prices are high in Palm Springs this time of year, and substantially higher during the Modernism event. Our total bill for 4 nights was $ 1750.52. Compared to other accommodations nearby this was the least expensive of what I priced. But, for over $ 430. per night I would have expected an updated bathroom and at least a cafe on the property.
We did know about the lack of a dining area before we booked, but having been to PS before, I knew where we could get a good coffee and a light breakfast, such as at Koffi or Starbucks. But, also know that breakfast restaurants do not typically open until 8 am, so if you have a 8 am or 8:30 appointment, you are limited to coffee cafes, unless, of course you want to stock the kitchen in your unit (if your unit has a kitchen ... not certain if they all do.)
This property is good for some, but know its limitations.

Response from Dave Dean, Owner at The Hideaway
Responded Feb 25, 2023
Thank you, Nancy, for your feedback as it appears everything we could reasonably control was to your upmost satisfaction. Although you were in town for Modernism Week and recognized The Hideaway is a designated Class 1 Historic Site, you seemed to have missed that the bathroom in your room is original from 1947, lovingly restored and preserved as part of the presentation that garnered our hard-earned recognition as a Historic Site. It’s one of the many features that makes The Hideaway a truly unique experience. As Don Draper so eloquently coined when describing the essence of nostalgia, “It’s a time capsule, not a spaceship.” We have a walkability score of 100 out of 100 on most booking sites, including the highest concentration of restaurants and cafes in Palm Springs within two blocks. You also had a kitchenette in your room with a stove, refrigerator, and coffee maker with unlimited free Peet’s coffee. By your own admission, you went for your least expensive option when booking for your visit and knew in advance we did not have a restaurant... then you knock down our rating because we don’t have a restaurant like the hotels that were charging double or triple our reasonable rates during Modernism Week. Perhaps your limitations are what you should be considering, not ours.

We were expecting a tad more from the photos. We have stayed many places in Palm Springs, and this falls into the modest rehab of vintage property with worn kitsch furniture to complete the vibe. It seems all small hotels have given up on having on-premises staff to cut costs and use self-attended check-in. That trend is a shame. The property is very clean including the pool. The house cleaning staff are delightful. They were always friendly and helpful whenever you asked for anything. They were there most of the day and are essentially the only staff immediately available. It is centrally located and kept very quiet. Guests seemed mindful of not speaking loudly or using cell phones in the pool area. There is a small kitchen in the compound but no breakfast or coffee and tea available in the morning. They place Keurig pod machines in the rooms along with two bottles of water. There is the large Starbucks a block away which we used every morning instead. The bathrooms are all original 50's tiled affairs, so there is very little space to turn around or squeeze into the shower. If you like comfortable bathrooms look elsewhere. The rooms are quite varied in size. The queens seen to be the smallest. I took a peek at some of the larger ones and they seemed much nicer with a seating area, more glass and larger bathrooms. I might swing for one of those suites if I was returning. It is economical for Palm Springs hotel prices, so might be good for those on a budget.

What an amazing stay at The Hideaway! I’ve stayed at several places in the Historic Tennis Club District, and this place is by far the most peaceful and relaxing. First and foremost, the Burns design is stunning and the owners have obviously spent a lot of careful attention to preserve the original design and energy of the property. It’s an intimate space with few rooms, which translates to a private and quiet experience. The room was spacious and nicely detailed. I loved the original tile work in the bathroom and the images of the place from yesteryear. The grounds were meticulously kept. The pool made the 115 degree days much more pleasant. The housekeeper, Margarita, was so sweet and made sure I had everything I needed for my stay. The property manager, Alden, was also incredibly kind and even helped accommodate an extra night’s stay at the last minute. The property had appropriate COVID-19 mitigation protocols in place. Lastly, what a value! I paid more than half of what I would pay at an adjacent property and felt like 110% of my expectations were met. I thank The Hideaway for providing a restful and restorative space for a much needed getaway!

I was looking for a lovely hotel-cation for my parent's anniversary and this place exceeded my expectations. Thank you Angela for making them feel welcomed with a celebratory card and chocolates! The suite was a quiet paradise surrounded by a beautiful garden and I was happy to hear about their pleasant experience at The Hideaway. Contactless check-in/out was available and they also enjoyed hiking at Tahquitz Canyon nearby.

Stayed here over the Christmas holidays and thoroughly enjoyed it. The hotel and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Rooms are spacious and appointed in the mid century modern style. It almost felt like we were on a TV or movie set - so perfect!
There is no front desk, no concierge, no bell staff, no bar. This is a place for total rest and relaxation. If you enjoy peace and quiet and don’t want to be bothered ... this is the spot for you.
We loved the location - you can walk two blocks to the main retail/restaurant/shopping area. After rambling around Palm Springs during the day, we came back to our little Hideaway, grabbed a book and sat by the pool until the sun went down. At night you can sit by the fire pit and read or chat with other guests.
Truly a sanctuary! Would most definitely stay here again.

This 12 room boutique hotel is perfect for Palm Springs! It’s swanky and quiet and calming - yet located in the center of downtown Palm Springs! The staff is extremely responsive and caring. This will be my top hotel of choice for future trips to Palm Springs.

The Hideaway was the perfect fit for my boyfriend and I! It was in a perfect location, very close to downtown, we were able to walk to dinner every night. The room was so clean, and the bed was so comfortable. The pool felt great and the grounds were wonderful. We are coming back to the hideaway as soon as possible!!!

The Hideaway!!! But my husband and I are in our 60s and we love the quiet. It's spacious and you can sit apart from people. We loved the Orbit In for years, the service is incredible. But for us, it's for the younger crowd.

I was there Monday through the following Sunday. I parked in front of the gate basically every night. Worst day (Saturday, when all the weekend trippers come in from LA), I parked 30 feet away. Enjoy yourself!!
