OMG...we love(d) this place! There are GREAT things about the Tropics: Perfect sized pool for its size, cool Tiki/beachy mood music, reasonably-priced food and tropical drinks. You're not staying at the Four Seasons, but the price is right. It's a great "in between" type resort. It became our new Palm Springs getaway spot........until........(record scratch) BED BUGS!!!!!!! Our friends had to pack their luggage in plastic bags to prevent the bugs from leaving and coming home with them, and immediately had to check out of the motel and into another...ending our weekend of fun on the spot. Making matters worse? The next morning manager didn't seem to believe them, or at least wasn't the least bit sympathetic....despite the cell phone photos and actual captured bed bugs on the night stand. If you get bitten by a bed bug, which causes bleeding (disgusting, right?), what else can you do to show the motel besides capture the very bed bugs that bit you (they found a total of five), take pictures, and keep the captured bed bugs to show them? What's not to believe? At first I wanted to see the bugs and google what bug bugs look like. And oh lord, yes. It was confirmed: actual, real-life beg bugs. The first time in my life I've ever seen them. What this motel needed to do right then and there was make it RIGHT on the spot...to apologize to the victims of the bed bug infestation, and to reward them with a future stay--on the house--to show that they take such infestations seriously, and that this was a rare, one-of-a-kind, stand-alone event. Not to say that they (or we) would feel comfortable ever returning, but they didn't get so much as even an apology from the motel. Breaks our heart to say this but: NEVER AGAIN, Caliente Tropix.…
We loved staying here, the pool/hot tub area is great with fun lighting at night. The Reef restaurant that is attached to the pool area is a fun place with great food. I had the coconut shrimp & it was amazing.
I didn’t expect luxury here but c’mon. There are cracks in the painted cement floor, the wallpaper is peeling, the faucet is about to break off from the sink, and the towel holder literally fell off the wall onto the floor. I asked for another room but the entire place is sold out. That’s another thing, if you’re looking for any social distancing at the pool, it’s not happening. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere.
Wasn't expecting anything great for $100 a night... However, stayed 2 nights, place was very clean, staff friendly, great location- so close to everything. Had a couple drinks at the bar- fine, pool was nice and heated. I have no complaints. Would stay here again. Yes, its an older property that could use some renovation, but for what you pay it is a bargain.
I was looking forward to staying at this retro tiki hotel, as I had driven past it many times. I finally booked a night and was so horrified, I didn’t even stay overnight. I left and drove two hours home to avoid it. The rooms was awful. Dirty, old carpet... horrible mattress, musty smell and popcorn ceilings. I felt like I was given the worst possible room. Also did not feel safe, as a solo female traveler. Shady people staring. Tried to make the most of it by getting a drink at The Reef Bar, but their computer system was down. Could not get out of there fast enough.
