Great hotel, it was comfortable, clean and the pool was nice. Great location, could walk downtown in about 10 minutes and to yummy breakfast spots near by. Wonderful staff, very accommodating and friendly.
The rooms were noisy and not well insulated. The staff was friendly but didn’t clean the rooms even when asked to do so. The pool was old. There are many nicer places to stay that are in the same price range. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place.
This hotel had as much ambiance as a motel 6. The management is not on site so no one is at the front desk. The lobby is closed so check in a questions and dealt with at the hotel across the street. The continental breakfast is a paper bag with a pre-packaged muffin, granola bar and canned juice. The only good thing about the hotel is the location
I have not had a worse nights sleep in a long time. It’s like the people in the room above me were moving furniture all night long. I woke up multiple times from the snoring in a surrounding room. The pool got zero sun any time if the day. The lobby was closed, I had to check in at the hotel next door, finding out only after I got to the lobby of the hotel to see the place was dark and shut down. Overall terrible experience, will not book again and don’t recommend.
Great location, beautiful view outside. Cute rooms. Hot water. Lyft comes quickly if you don't drive. I didn't think checking in at the hotel next door was a big deal. The staff there are very nice and that hotel is cute, so it's fun to step in there. Unlimited water was very handy. It was quiet the whole time I was there, besides one night from 7-9, live music from the Mexican restaurant below, which was lovely to hear. I danced on my balcony. I would definitely stay again. Especially loved the staff at the Triada hotel next door. They were friendly and helpful, that made my stay even more lovely. Wish they would open the hot tub. I would have liked to go in at after the sun went down. Or maybe offer a pass to use the hot tub at the hotel next door. By the way, I don't drive and it took me about 10 minutes to walk downtown. Felt safe. I just tried to get home before dark. One night I walked at night and there was one man on the streets who seemed strange, but after I refused to talk with him, he left me alone. The whole time (7 days) I was in Palm Springs I saw about 5 homeless people and didn't have any interactions with them. So if you're worried about that, it seems pretty under control.…
Movie Colony hotel is very cool, sleek with a galaxy gray theme throughout the property - but the best part about it is that it's centrally-located. Check-in is at Triada next door. Both properties are owned by the same couple. Triada has more of a Spanish Revival character and feels like a regular boutique hotel with all the normal amenities (pool, gym, restaurant, front desk). I called to see if I could use their gym and they said that it was only for Triada guests.. which was disappointing but at least they were really nice about it. I kind of understand the negative reviews about this place; true, it's not as swanky as their sister-hotel. It's actually just a refurbished motel. The lobby at MCH was not open and so you had to walk to Triada to get the the "grab and go" breakfast, which was an apple, a muffin, a granola bar, and a cup coffee. What made it really fun was the privacy; it's almost like staying in an AirBnB where you don't interact with much of the staff, and it's all very laissez faire. A bunch of us were there for a group trip so about half of the rooms were booked under a group rate. So if you're thinking about an affordable stay where you and your posse can basically take over the property, this is it. As far as the rooms go, the toilets were working fine, the room was clean and thoughtfully decorated, and the private patio is a big plus for those who just wanna get some fresh air without going out to the pool area. The only downside of the patio was a trash can that can be seen right above our fence. Walking in to an air-conditioned room was also a big plus. Shower pressure is not great but the shower itself was equipped with a detachable shower head. The reason why it's "adult only" is because there's no gate around the pool. But we saw dogs and cats, so it's definitely a place to bring your furry friends along. The pool was well-kept and there were always enough pool towels. Another thing to note is that they do not do housekeeping during your stay, per their Covid-19 policy. Since we were only there for 2 nights, it wasn't a big deal. They will provide extra pillows, towels, toiletries, etc.…
My husband I stayed here for a kid-free getaway. A couple things to know, this is a kid-free hotel (adult only) which wasn’t a problem for us but we didn’t know it until we checked in. If we’d had the kids with us it would have been. Next, the lobby of the Movie Colony Hotel was closed for our stay (I don’t know why, I just know it was closed for the entire duration of our stay). Check in and all questions go through the hotel next door. It works, but it is awkward. The room we had was plenty big, it was a two story suite, and it was great for our use. The pool area isn’t staffed, and is cleaned/picked up only maybe once a day so abandoned pool towels tend to stay in place (on the ground, on chaises etc) for hours. The pool towels aren’t restocked very often either, so we found grabbing a couple in the morning was the best way to make sure we had them when we wanted them. Overall not a bad stay, but definitely lacking in some of the nicer touches, or even some of the basic ones I tend to expect in a hotel.…
CONS: v. dark downstairs - one window. No sink so you have to go upstairs .The water wasn't drinkable. No doorknob to the balcony can't keep the AC in your room. Needed BLACKOUT curtains; only wood shutters It was VERY bright all night long. The carpets seem v. dirty. Impossible to flush toilet. OK shower -- water has strong sulfur smell. Two older TVS's, no Smart TV options / ability to airplay anything. DESERTED in terms of staff, we never saw one person in five days. Continental breakfast is a muffin in a bag. PROS: quiet. There weren't a lot guests. Only one time when we shared the pool. Balcony was HUGE / overlooked the pool & lovely view. Good patio furniture (comfy lounge chairs & table with 4 chairs). Perfect location. So easy to walk to the downtown area. There are NO options for buying water near by -- if you want groceries or water you need a car or to have it delivered. B/c it was during COVID we did spend a lot of time there; great to have the upstairs since we had no desire to hang out in the dark downstairs area. The bed was comfy, had enough pillows. It was a real mixed bag! The pool / balcony were the stars. We're pretty easy going so we made the best of it but I don't think I will stay there again unless they do some serious updates. It was a bit sad. The outside is so gray. Add some paint to the doors or some plants in pots! It seemed so sterile &boring. Not a BOUTIQUE HOTEL but a FANCY MOTEL. There are zero amenities, it was a very bare situation. …
Based the the positive reviews, we took a chance and stayed at the Movie Colony Hotel. Big mistake! From the start, our first impression was disappointing. The hotel lobby was closed so we had to walk across the street to a different hotel to check in. Our room was extremely disappointing and dirty! We found a pair of glasses next to the bed and when we were packing up to check out a huge COCKROACH ran across our bed!! The window in the bathroom was broken, the toilet was loose, there was peeling paint next to the shower, and it just felt dirty. We paid extra for a nice outside patio, and the attached picture is what our “beautiful garden view” was. A bunch of dead leaves and plants. Literally stay anywhere but here.
I went back to the Movie Colony after a few years. It had always been charming, but it is more decrepit now. The hotel was unfortunately dirty, tired, and the pool was filled with leaves. My room was barely cleaned; the lobby was under some kind of construction (never mentioned at booking) that meant trips across the street to a neighboring hotel. The hot tub was shut. The wifi was for all intents and purposes nonexistent. I'm not sure the issue here but I hope this once nice hotel can be restored.
