Back in the 1960s I would go with my parents. At that time it was owned by Jack Wrather and Bonita Granville Wrather. Wonderful cabanas for privacy were all around. Our family would stay in a back cottage with an extra room on the side. A private entrance gave a feel of privacy. Grapefruit trees were everywhere , juice was served every morning. When my parents would return home , bags of fruit would be given. Shuffleboard was a daily ritual. Nextdoor was a vacant lot that we would run our Springer Spaniel. Today the site has a restaurant, Elmers. The Wrathers had a small family home with a pool. Those were the days, of privacy and simplicity.
Very LA in that it was all style and no substance. The check in was fine, the room at first glance was very nice, but it went downhill from there. They start by making it seem like they really want to provide great service by having a bellhop take your bags and take you to your room. What this means is they take your bags, put them right where you can see them at let you know someone will take you to your room shortly...like, 20 minutes later. Then as the bellhop showed us our room, one of the lights broke as he showed us. This was never fixed. Then we attempted to call for room service, which was hilarious. There is an tablet in the room that seemingly would have been great to order from. Once I finally got it working and got to the room service page, it had no details except to say to call the room service number to order. Okay. We try calling, and the number appears to be disconnected. Fine. We call the front desk, explain the situation, and they said they could read off the menu, which seemed silly, and we asked if they could just send a paper menu. That never came. We just wanted to order a couple drinks so we just went to the bar. No one else around. Lovely bartender, but it probably took at least 20 minutes for us to get a drink. Breakfast the next morning was insane. To make a long story short, they had a single staff member (who looked like a 14 year old boy) servicing the entire hotel for breakfast. We ordered two dishes and two coffees, and were there for 3 hours. Not a leasure 3 hours as we wanted to get out, but that was just the going average amount of time it took anyone to get served. And then the food, for being part of one of "Palm Springs's hottest restaurants" was really beyond average. Oh, and then they messed up our bill, so I'm still trying to get a credit from them.…
The hotel is significantly understaffed, and rooms need updating. In my room, the phone did not work, there was little hot water, the drapes were soiled and sleeping on the bed was like sleeping on the floor. Need I say more? Oh yes, I forgot to mention that the heating system is a add-on remote unit which operates like something from your grandmas house 100 years ago.
Luke and Gina greeted us at the front desk. Efficiently checked us in, gave us champagne and brief history of L' Horizon. Both are very personable. Matt took us to our "Martin" bungalow, with our luggage and showed us all about it. He also doubles as valet. Morning breakfast was outside, starting with mimosas then tasty frittatas. Kelly took very good care of us, and he doubles as bar tender. We were blessed with 80 degree weather, so took advantage of the gorgeous pool and surroundings. Thanks for making a memorable Christmas.
My wife and I just spent the weekend at this resort for the first time. Worth noting that it's an Amex Fine Resort. The 4pm late check out is always the best, take advantage of it if you are a card holder. The property is really nice and the rooms were great. We upgraded for a fair price on arrival and got this super nice room that had a little sitting area and out door shower. Bathroom was plenty big. The proximity to the pool, spa and pool side bar were perfect. The entire staff was very pleasant. They always seemed happy to see us. Everyone greeted us with smiles and offered to help with anything we needed. We really got to know bartenders Alex and Joe (Joe just started and was made for this job) at the pool bar and felt like friends in the end. Alex is a pro. We want to go back just to sit at the bar and have tequila while talking with this dynamic duo. The other bar tenders were really cool as well just didn't hang with them as much. You can tell the vibe just resonated with the guests. You could start a conversation with anyone and all were friendly and very relaxed. This place really captures that laid back, Palm Springs vibe we were looking for. Food and drinks were great and the location is close to anything you might want to do yet it's secluded enough. We will be back!…
The first time i called to upgrade our room the lady at the front desk was extremely rude and told “i am busy and can’t upgrade” when i expressed worry about staying there due to poor customer service she said “you do what you have to do then put me on hold” the guy i talked to after was much better so we decided to go anyways. I will say this one lady was the main problem and I am pretty sure she was the one who lost our Tesla key. The rest of the staff was amazing. We rented the suite one step down from their biggest suite. The room had never been used before. The spa at night didn’t heat up. The bathtub didn’t have any hot water pressure and the fireplace kept breaking. Also the bedroom didn’t have any vents so the bedroom was cleaned and really hot. Finally on our third night the air conditioning broke and they moved us to the best suite they had. The suite was fine but the pool was dirty and There was a dead bug in the shower. The water didn’t get hot either in the shower and tub. Plus the ac in the front rooms didn’t work well. What went right The bar staff was amazing and the valet was so great. Also the food was good but the menu was a little small choice wise. The spa services were meh We have had lots of massages and I felt like my masseuse wasn’t as skilled at massages. I did a full body massage and she didn’t even do my feet The trip ended when the lady at the front desk lost our Tesla key in our car and just said sorry we looked everywhere and can’t find it. We were also told that management would reach out to us since we had so many problems but they never did. This was not valet, valet wasn’t in yet and she was trying to charge our car which didn’t happen either. I was always polite and kind to everyone bc I don’t believe in being mean or throwing a fit to get my way. Even though the issues over all were numerous we didn’t get upset but we definitely won’t be back.…
Loads going for this resort. It has the feel of a private club with a great sense of arrival, beautifully manicured gardens, a lovely quiet pool area and rooms spread in single storey bungalows around the property offering decent levels of privacy. The door to your own bungalow carries an engraved metal sign with your name which was a nice touch. Our room was pleasant but nothing particularly special. The bathroom was a little on the small side but that was probably a reflection of how old the property is and whatever the level refurbishment that has clearly taken place, this could not really be changed. Servicing of the room was not great - we had to ask for coffee cups to be washed and the mini bar replenished on our second day and for turn down as this was promised us on the first night but didn’t happen. Service at the resort was really hit and miss. Most of the team were really friendly but it wasn’t the slick operation you’d expect from a resort charging US$800 per night. I didn’t get the impression that there was a General Manager and I think with a GM overseeing the operational side of things, service would be so much better. Food was good but service at breakfast could be really slow if it was busy and in line with what I say above, wasn’t particularly polished. We didn’t get to eat at SO PA which was disappointing as it was only open on our first night and closed for the other two nights were we’re staying. Unfortunately we weren’t told this when we checked in otherwise we would have dined there on our first night. We enjoyed our stay but there look to be loads of other good options in Palm Springs so I’d recommend looking elsewhere if you want the kind of service you really ought to be getting for the rates this place is charging.…
I enjoyed my stay at L’Horizon. The room service and restaurant are phenomenal with great service. My room was nice, but a little worn. Could use a refresh. Considering how pricey the hotel is, I expected the staff to be well informed, but no one seemed to know what was going on! In fact, the front desk staff didn’t even know who the GM was! I was given permission to self park before I checked in and most of the valets were accommodating and excellent. Except for my last night. I had to argue with the valet about self parking and I found him to be very uninformed and disrespectful. The AGM, Nathan, also gave me a hard time. Considering I’m paying a self parking and amenity fee, I expected better attitude and service from these two individuals. Also, that same night, someone tried to steal my license plate and all the screws were loose on my plate. Not sure how that happened, but the valet with the lousy attitude certainly wasn’t watching my car. Overall a nice stay, but not sure I’d return due to the negative experiences at the end. Too bad, but lots of choices in PS!…
CONS: - Very small staff during COVID, hard to get anyones attention to order food or drinks - NO SPA - I REPEAT - NO SPA. The expensive $225 massage was in a tent area on the side, while construction was going on. I would not recommend. - NO SPA - there is no steam, sauna, gym or anything like that, very misleading as the name is RESORT & SPA. - A lot of the rooms faced the public area so when you were by the pool or walking around the large windows faced you and there were unmade beds and messy rooms. Thankfully, we had a room that our windows faced the back of the property, so it was more private - I would not have felt comfortable in one of the other rooms as to have privacy you had to close all the curtains and it made the room very dark. - Pretty pricey PROS: - Very nicely kept property - Bed was comfortable - Nice pool area & jacuzzi - Food was AMAZING! Highly recommend the restaurant.…
I stayed across the street from L'Horizon at an Airbnb and saw they had a spa. I was able to secure an appointment last minute and had one of the most intense massages ever. It's outside in a cabana, and the therapist "Heidi," knew exactly how to help my severe pain. I would highly recommend Heidi for a deep Swedish massage. She is a true healer. As a bonus you will get a complimentary cocktail after your treatment, and who doesn't appreciate that? The front desk staff Nina was so helpful and friendly. She went over and above. Treat yourself today with a wonderful massage.
