The JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort is large and full of amenities, though it lacks any sort of personal charm. My group was in town for the BNP Paribas tennis tournament and I spent three nights at the hotel in a king room overlooking the pools with the mountains in the background. The hotel was crowded with tennis spectators during this time and we especially enjoyed the complimentary shuttle to and from Indian Wells. The room was a decent size for two people, though it was quite a hike down the hall to room. Robes and slippers are provided. In the bathroom, there were communal bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion to use during our stay. The lotion was not my favorite as it did not easy absorb into my skin. The other products were fine. One day we spent by the pool and the service around the pool was very attentive. We ordered both food and drinks, which were all enjoyed. Another day was spent at the Spa, which I recommend visiting. The Spa pool was delightful and again had great service and was much quieter than the main hotel pools. My hot stone massage was great and relaxing. The locker room at the Spa could use a renovation, but this did not impact our group's overall enjoyment. We had breakfast each morning at the Rockwood Grill. On the weekends, the restaurant gets crowded and there can be a bit of a wait for a table. The buffet had all that was expected, but was not overly extensive. Room service was fast and hit the spot when needed. Overall, the hotel provided on all the necessities. I would consider staying here again if I find myself in Palm Desert.…
My wife and I took a 5 day trip to this property. Overall a very nice stay. Staff was very welcoming throughout the stay. I read a lot of reviews (good and bad) prior to selecting this location, so I’d like to add in our experience which I rate as very good! I have Titanium status which was acknowledged at check-in and when dining. They have a dedicated desk for Bonvoy members and were quite responsive of any questions/requests (which I made via a personal visit to clarify/adjust billing and for additional towels). With my status, I had the choice of welcome points or daily breakfast. We chose the breakfast, which was in the Rockwood restaurant. You could have either continental buffet or could upgrade to full buffet for $10 more. They even covered the tip. For me a full continental was more than enough (cereals, fruits, bagels/toast, smoked salmon and breakfast lunch meat/cheese, and plenty of sweets). Our room was in the main building, just off the lobby overlook (ended in 38). The lobby was noisy on the weekend but didn’t carry to our room. The room was a little off JW standard, mostly due to the hotel being a little older. It was clean and an enjoyable oasis. Separate shower and tub, updated furniture, and the balcony furniture was nice. They provided daily towel/general clean up service and changed sheets every other day. Always done by the time we returned to the room. There were several restaurants (all with resort pricing), which we used since we were mostly staying resort bound. Making reservations was a must, especially on the weekend (even for breakfast). If you need to change once you are there, just stop by the front desk at Rosewood and they happily accommodate. Rosewood was the main place. A bit of an ordinary restaurant that also had outdoor dining. The food was good quality and service was attentive. Some steaks and higher end meats. When we arrived, we had a sandwich and drinks at the lounge next to Rosewood. Food came from Rosewood and drinks from the bar. Nice place to sit outside and enjoy some music. We also did Mikado, which is a typical Japanese steakhouse. Corny jokes, flying knives, and over seasoned food. Not my wife’s favorite, but that would be the case no matter where it was. We visited Fisherman’s Wharf for lunch one day. Good draft beer. Had a fish sandwich and fries, which was enjoyable. I think it’s a chain, which rents space in the hotel. You could not reserve in advance. We also had lunch at the Oasis pool bar/snack bar. Fun to sit outside. Food was as expected. Lastly, I’d mention the Sandtrap, which is near the golf practice range (a short walk if not golfing). Had a great breakfast burrito there. Probably the most reasonable thing I bought at this property! Starbucks was crowded in the am. Didn’t get to try the sushi bar, but it looked good. The facilities were very nice. They have several shops from golf, swimwear, chocolates, coffee, and other gift/sundries. I played the Palm golf course, which I found to be well maintained. Greens were a bit slow but not complaining. Pools were heated with plenty of seating and umbrellas. Was cooler one day so most people congregated at the hot tubs (2) which were beyond my capacity comfort level. The mini golf course was well used and fun. Just off the lobby next to Starbucks. They provide balls and clubs. A nice activity for kids and families. My wife and I played nightly. Other games were available including cornhole. Walked to the tennis center one day. It looked first class with both tennis and pickleball. Overall nice grounds to walk around. Other things of note. Ralphs grocery store and some other restaurants are just across the street and many people seemed to walk there. Joshua Tree National Park is less than an hour away and worth the day trip (bring snacks!). Palm Canyon was fun to visit and do some hiking/exploring. Drove through downtown, but not impressed. Went to the Indian Wells tennis tournament to watch one day, using the hotel shuttle which was very convenient. Seems this is an annual spring event that goes on for 2 weeks. Great dinner at La Spiga, about 15 minutes away. Hard reservation to get. We will do this trip again! …
DO NOT STAY HERE!!! I don’t know where to begin. THE WORST customer service I have ever had at an expensive hotel. The grounds and scenery are very nice but you can get that elsewhere in palm desert -Had to bring in our own bags from the car as no one was available or offered to help -Were an hour early and told our room was ready so parked the car and then had to wait two hours to get into our room -Reserved and paid for room with a sofa bed for our daughter. Room had one king size bed. Called front desk and were told they are “totally committed” so daughter had to sleep on a cot -Were told we had to put our umbrella down at the pool at 330 because of “wind advisory” and there was absolutely no wind and were at least a dozen other umbrellas up at that time -Paid for a boat ride around the “lakes” and went only in circles 30 yards from the lobby because there was a “goose in the way” (the boat in front of us went around the whole property) -Rude employees everywhere. Worst 800+ dollar a night hotel experience I’ve ever had Only google hotel review I’ve ever left but I don’t want anyone else’s vacation to be ruined like my famIly’s was…
The property boasts amazing views and amenities... a pool for all. The check-in was lackluster, a tall young lad who asked if we didn't mind a walk for our room. My question back was in regard to parking and access to unload....ask more questions! The views from the balcony are great, overlooking the golf course and mountains. The accessibility to the rooms above the golf shop is horrible, two sets of steps from the larger parking area and no clear entry! The room itself was very dated as was the hotel overall. Not a typical JW experience nor value for price paid. Surely your luggage wheels will carry home the remnants of goose droppings which are everywhere on the path to your room.
We earned $200 in credit from Marriott. They only allowed us to use $100 even though we stayed two days and used the spa. They said the reasoning is we paid our bill on one day. If we would have paid for the spa on the Second day, they would have accepted our loyalty points. So if you stay s week and pay everything on the same day, you can only use $100.
I stayed at the JW Marriott Desert Springs again with my wife and my two daughters (ages 9 and 6). We came out to the desert from LA over President's Day weekend to take the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway so the girls could experience snow for the first time. It was nice that within an hour we went from 30 degrees in the snow to 74 degrees, sunny, and swimming in a heated pool. We used Marriott points to book the room and were given a free upgrade to a pool view. We were in room 5161 with two double beds and a fantastic view of the pool and the mountains. The room was nice with a big bathroom and a nice-sized balcony. We again ate at Fisherman's Landing as we always have great meals there and this visit was no different. The only hiccup was that there are limited hours for the boats and the girls weren't able to take a boat tour this trip. Hopefully we have better luck next time.…
Played the Palms course today. Unfortunately it was a major disappointment. The greens were a joke for paying over $200 for a round per person. Do not play here if you want nice greens. Staff nice, fairways nice, playing partners nice. Greens: not nice!
1) We went there to check the resort for the wedding which my family is planning to have over there. 2) The JW property is very well done. It must be 10 years old or even more but it was nice and maintained. 3) First property I have seen where the boat's deck is indoors i.e. inside the lobby. 4) It has several large banquet halls depending upon the capacity of which one would like to go in. 5) It has around 6 restaurants. 6) There are shops and stores in the Resort. 7) I really liked the outdoor lush green lawns, the water body, the lakes, and the ducks overlooking the mountains, the views were mesmerizing. 8) One needs to experience it to see it and believe it. 9) I think it's one of the largest properties in Palm Springs. 10) The location is excellent and very close to the highway. 11) It had ample parking. 12) The washrooms were clean as well. 13) The staff are courteous. 14) The rugs and carpets were clean. 15) A good place for a weekend or to attend a concert or a wedding. 16) But I haven't stayed yet, so maybe I can write in detail after my stay. But as they say, the first impression makes a difference, so I thought of writing it. …
First time in Palm Spring for an Eagle concert. This was our second choice - Marriott’s Shadow Ridge. Our 1st choice was the Renaissance- sold out. Looks can be deceiving. We are currently staying two nights at this resort. The cost is $351/ per night ( not including tax). We are so dissatisfied & disappointed in our rooms. All of the rooms need updates!!! The towels are so old & dirty! Our friends called the front office last night to ask if there were any vending machine available but no one picked up the phone! I don’t think we are going to come back to this particular resort again!
Thoroughly enjoyed a recent 8 night, first time visit to Palm Springs area, at the JW Marriott. Can’t say enough good things about the cleanliness of the entire resort, the variety of activities available, and how courteous and friendly all of the employees of the resort were towards us. The 2 golf courses were kept up well, challenging yet playable, with a great pace of play both days I played. Will definitely be back here next time we visit the area. A minor discrepancy with our final statement was easily rectified thru email communications. Well done JW Marriott!
