My husband and I returned to this B&B after many years and were terribly disappointed. First, let me say I don’t post anything negative l unless I try to contact the business and talk about my concerns. I did that and no one returned my call or email. This Bed-and-breakfast is far past it’s prime. Our first room smelled so musty that we could not stay in it. We were moved to another room in the main house. The bed was old and uncomfortable. The sheets were worn thin. The room had only two or three outlets, which is not enough to charge electronics. The outlet in the bathroom did not work for the hair dryer. I had much higher expectations for a room that was over $375 per night. Customer service was an afterthought. Spend your money somewhere else.

We arrived at the Martine Inn after several hours of travelling to be greeted by Sherrie at this quaint inn. Yes, the decor is dated but this adds to the charm of the place. Beds were super comfy and the breakfast was divine. Wine and a little cheese/meat plate is served between 5.30/6.30pm which is a nice touch. The dining room looks out onto the ocean and binoculars are provided to do some seal spotting whilst you enjoy your food. Each room is different with some having ocean views. Although coffee/hot water/hot chocolate are provided in the hallway, it went cold overnight. It would be great to have a kettle supplied for guests with jet lag who need a cup of tea at 5am ! We would definitely return, this is a gorgeous area. Visit Carmel by the Sea too.

Great location, delicious breakfast, beautiful views and wonderful staff. The only thing I would recommend when you reserve is to reserve a larger room. Our room was initially very small and overfilled with heavy furniture, so much so that you could barely find a place to put your luggage or walk easily around the room. Because we were kept up most of the night by the seagulls nesting literally at top of our chimney, they were incredibly accommodating and moved us to a bigger room upstairs with beautiful bay windows and less noise. It made for the perfect trip. Also note that the rooms are not air conditioned but they get to a very comfortable temperature at night. We highly recommend the Martine Inn.

The first impression when entering the hotel was like going to someone’s great aunt’s house; the deco was dated and our room had musty smell, flowery wallpaper with matching flowery curtains. The sink was in the bedroom. The room itself was also quite small and cold at night. All that said the room was clean, the garden was pretty, staff was very friendly and the location was excellent. The room rate also included breakfast which was good. Parking and wifi were both good and free.

This is a tricky review as you will get exactly as the pictures and description read on the sell page, but a few tweets needed to fully wrap up this hotel. There is parking out front, off road for your car, your gps may take you to the side road, skip that and go to the front The room we was given is almost exactly as per photos. There will be an alarm clock with a usb outlet, various bits of furnishing to suit the ambience and a bathroom with a shower and toilet and the sink within the bedroom. There is also a small fridge in the room The hotel offer free wine and cheese in the evening to allow you to view the bay from the front and using their binoculars splashing whales. There is complimentary coffee to help yourself too in the lobby. We had to leave early so missed breakfast. The property is located on the coastal road so it’s a perfect location. To the left 10 mins walk, Lovers point, 3 blocks back the main road/shops . 10mins right, the wharf /cannery road and more. Everything is walking distance. The staff are all very polite, there is a pool table to use, table tennis, viewing of vintage cars on site The few things that people may not be aware off, there is no tv in the room, the staff leave at 9pm, so residents have access to a number to call. However coffee etc is not provided in the rooms instead coffee is available in urn’s in the lobby, but as the staff leave at 9pm and don’t return until around 8am, when you want an early coffee, it’s not last nights cold coffee you had dreamed of. We also had an animal keep scurrying across the ceiling during the evening/morning Monterey left is quiet (looking out to the sea), to the right is the cannery area, don’t just follow the main area, there are some gems hidden

I will start with the positives, because it would not be fair to pretend there weren't some enjoyable things about our stay: 1) The staff--friendly, helpful, positive, available. The highlight of our stay. 2) The view from our room--unbeatable. 3) Breakfast--tasty (although we did not come down to breakfast both days as we found the environment a bit awkward, with silence in a large room). The reasons we will not be returning are the following: 1) The furniture in the room was antique, yes, but also down-at-the-heels, rickety, and uncomfortable. The wardrobe was not secured to the wall and tilted dangerously toward us whenever we operated the doors. The settee had a large depression in the middle and felt like it was going to break whenever we sat down (and we are not large people). The mattress did not fit the bed frame, leaving large gaps on all sides and allowing the pillows to fall down behind the mattress at the head of the bed. And the mattress itself was very firm, leading to a very poor night's sleep both nights of our stay. The lamp in the corner of the room by the window was literally falling apart (that is, the fringe would fall to the carpet and disintegrate into dust). 2) Little air circulation. The small window facing the ocean was the only real source of air in the bedroom, as the double-hung window by the bed is broken and will not stay up. It has clearly been broken for some time. The other windows in the room were non-operable. The bathroom doors let some air in, but not enough to circulate through the main sleeping area. This led to a stifling atmosphere day and night despite the provision of a small desk fan. 3) Only one outlet in the entire room was working and available for us to use--the one directly below the windows on the ocean wall. None of the outlets in the bathroom worked, and all other outlets in the room were either non-functional or were already in use (such as for the refrigerator). 4) Parking in the lot was a risky proposition, as the angle of the entrance led to scraping our sedan's undercarriage no matter what angle we tried. We ended up parking on the street after our first 3 attempts. 5) Cleaning in some of the common areas seems to have been neglected for a while. The thick dust gathering in the hallway to the courtyard was particularly noticeable. The overall impression we had during our stay was of an Inn that had been lovely at one time but has been missing some basic maintenance for a while and sorely needs updating. I'm sorry I couldn't give the Martine Inn more happy feedback, and we wish you well in your pursuit of a pleasurable experience for your guests.

We had a great 2-night stay while visiting the Monterey area. Perfect location and service, staff are very friendly and professional. Our room was full of character and furnished with lovely antiques. Breakfast was delicious and different options were offered each morning. On top of it, it was served in a dining room facing the ocean - beautiful setting to start the day! Definitely recommended.

The power went out in the Monterey Peninsula on New Year’s Eve. We left a different hotel because they had nothing to offer under the circumstances. We were met at the door of the Martine by Carmen. She showed us to our room, provided lanterns and candles, offered extra blankets, and extended the time for wine and hors d’oeuvres so we would not be rushed. The next morning, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast of eggs Florentine, sausage, and fresh fruit while soaking in the glorious ocean view. The staff is friendly and professional. The rooms are lovely and furnished with beautiful antiques. We’ll be back!

We booked the Victorian Room which is listed as great for lovers. Found out why…no guest room borders it, wall, ceiling or floor. Truly fantastic views of the ocean and sounds of the surf. You will not miss a television, as the ocean is mesmerizing. People come from around the world to experience the oceanfront walk. At The Martine Inn, all you have to is stroll across the street after your included breakfast in the dining room which directly overlooks the ocean on Oceanside Avenue. Mr. Don Martine personally crafted a unique hospitality experience at his exceptional inn through years of hands-on labor. The staff are also exceptional in their attentiveness and warmth. They went above and beyond to accommodate a special request. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I discovered it many years ago from a friend who said her anniversary trip was complete with staying here and walking the coastal path…as was my most recent anniversary trip. SUPER ROMANTIC. Cannot wait to return.
