If you like the look of turn of the century rooms this is the place to go. Room had excellent view of the Bay. Staff was excellent and breakfasts were enjoyable. Quiet and relaxing. Stayed here several times and also enjoyed rooms with fireplace.

My fiancée and I stayed for one night at the Martine Inn on a trip to smell the salt air, see the ocean and get out of the mountains of Truckee for a weekend. It is a boutique hotel/B&B with a nice view of the bay from the breakfast room. We stayed in the room themed "Early American". It was small with no amenities except a fireplace which we didn't use. The bathroom is antiquated with only a tub. The tub has a 360 shower curtain. Make sure of your footing. The breakfast was simple but that's ok. Cut up sausage link in a mushroom sauce over an egg on a muffin. There were other items to pick from. The usual continental breakfast stuff. Here is my major complaint. After our stay we noticed an additional charge of $300, yes $300. The reason, apparently the maid said there was dog hair on the carpet. Now, we knew the Martine was not a pet friendly hotel, so we left our pet at home of course. I thought this might be a case of misidentifying us with another patron. WE DID NOT HAVE A PET STAY IN THE ROOM, PERIOD. Are they suggesting we smuggled on in? I guess. After we discovered the additional charge and confronted the management their response was "Sorry, there's nothing we can do". So, it's our word against theirs I guess. As far as I'm concerned, it's downright dishonesty. And there is apparently nothing 'I' can do about it, except write my complaint. So, if you book a stay at the Martine Inn, do it with a credit card and not an ATM card. Then at least you can contest such a ridicules, bogus charge.

We spent two nights in a beautiful ocean-view room at the Martine Inn and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We had amazing, delicious breakfasts plus afternoon wine receptions with a variety of fruit, cheese/crackers, and veggie appetizers. Everyone on staff was friendly and helpful. We recommend staying at the Martine Inn!

It’s easy to see this must have been “the” place to stay some years ago. Those days are past. On the plus side you cannot beat the location with wonderful views of the bay across the street and visit in the summer when parking is at a premium although there are not enough parking places for all the guests. Breakfast is served on large silver trays with a single special entree and some fruit each morning and options of a different glass of juice or some scrambled eggs. But don’t look for the elegant lace tablecloths and flowers shown in some photos. The dining room’s large folding tables with upholstered folding chairs had polyester green tablecloths during our visit and two had stains during all of our three days. The entire inn is in need of some TLC and repairs and definite attention to making the most of what remains from the many years past when Don Martine and his wife made this a place to be envied. Our room was not what we expected for the price. The drapes and sheers in our room were sun faded in places and had tears. The mattress creaked when we moved. Bathroom wallpaper was starting to peel. Towels were soft but if you wanted more than two, you needed to ask. The carpet on the stairs to the room was worn and one step needed a torn area nailed down before someone tripped. I will commend the minimal staff in being polite and helpful but this was probably our first and last visit until the quality is more in line with the price.
