I stayed in the courtyard area (the front of the hotel), the check in staff were nice, helpful on restaurants (after listening to what I was looking for menu-wise), the room was spotless and the overnight quiet with a comfortable bed. I did NOT try the morning breakfast, there are several great breakfast places about a mile away that I had eaten at before in town (local places - Mary's Family Restaurant and the Breakfast Club), so can't comment on that, but looks to be really basic. Nice area to explore from with a decent room. I enjoyed my stay and extended it an extra night.

We live in Arizona and our family wanted a quick getaway to the beach and some cooler temperatures. After looking at all of the high-price options in San Diego, we looked up the coast and found this great bargain in the Days Inn in Oceanside. Rooms go for about half of what adjacent resorts offer, and you still get everything you need: comfortable beds, a pool and hot tub, and easy access to the nearby beach and harborside shopping complex. The staff is very friendly, and the cleaning staff did an AWESOME job (it's rare to get daily service in hotels today, but they provided excellent daily service). We'll definitely consider staying here on our next visit.
As for complaints about dirty carpets, the beach sand is very dark and fine, it is easy to track into the rooms. Definitely bring an extra pair of socks or flip-flops if you're concerned about that.
Only drawbacks on our visit: breakfast options are still extremely limited in the lobby, but the staff did provide good hot coffee as well as pastries (there is also a Denny's nearby if you need something more). Also, the hotel is probably about 50 years old so the walls are a little thin. We could hear some adjacent room TVs and people talking loudly in the hall outside our room, so cross your fingers you have quiet neighbors. Still, overall, a fun stay and pleasurable experience.

We enjoyed our stay here. The hotel is older, but it was very clean. It's nice to be able to park right outside your door for unloading. We had to do laundry, and they give you a key so that you're the only one allowed in the room. There is only one washer and dryer, and the dryer didn't appear to dry very well. But we still appreciated the privacy. Surprisingly, there is a really nice path from the back of the hotel down to the beach area. You just follow the dirt path down a small hill, and under the railroad tracks. There are restaurants and shops and a nice Beach in that area. My biggest complaint was the horrible breakfast. The breakfast buffet area is closed and they only give you a prepackaged muffin or Danish, which were not tasty at all. It's not that I can't afford to go out and get breakfast somewhere, but when a hotel advertises that they serve breakfast, you kind of expect more! That's the reason why I deducted one star.

Location is the key word for this hotel. You can stroll down a path and be in the harbour in ten minutes, continue on and be on the lovely sand beach in 15. There is also a diner and a Mexican within walking distance and eateries on the harbour. It was the cheapest place we could find in Oceanside. Admittedly, the bed was a cheaper, bouncy one but was clean and comfy. We also had a table and chairs with plenty of space. Rooms were made up daily if required and toiletries were supplied, as well as a fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Our ground floor room looked out over the car park to the railings around the pool, but we could see the harbour below and even hear the ocean. Presumably the upstairs rooms had a better outlook and would be lighter inside. Downstairs, we spotted humming birds visiting the paradise flowers in the beds and could park right outside. Breakfast was basic and ran out a lot, some days the staff could not even provide hot water. We never needed to go out for breakfast though. The staff were just civil with very few smiles. We did use the 'solar heated' (cold) pool and the lovely hot tub. There were plenty of loungers and chairs with 2 solid parasols around the pool to spend time relaxing or staring out over the harbour. There was also a tiny triangle with a parasol, table and chair to sit and enjoy the view closer to the building. We made use of the laundry. Our room was a bit dark with noisy aircon but it didn't spoil our week. It's a perfect location for touring the area, right by the gate of Camp Pendleton. We heard their reveille every morning at 8. The railway going by was not an issue at all. Oceanside has many more lovely beaches and a great town just down the road, but the marina made it for us, especially the colony of sea lions.

Do not stay at this hotel. The management are awful. I booked this hotel for a weekend in March as my son was competing in a local surf competition. We are flying all the way from Canada for this event. The date of the surf competition was changed to the following weekend and when I asked the management to change the date of my reservation, they flat out refused. I also tried going through my travel agent and they were given the same response. So now I've lost my money for 3 nights accommodation because they are totally inflexible. Do not support this type of hotel - they don't care at all about their guests.

We stayed here because prices in Oceanside have skyrocketed & this was the deal. It’s been upgraded since we last stayed here with laminate flooring instead of gross hotel carpet. We had a king bed. No matter what, from when we arrived until we checked out, the floors always felt sandy. Still, I didn’t hate it. When we were checking out we met the owner, who was very sweet & who told us they were slowly making improvements. I mentioned the sandy floors & suggested a swifter type device but she said the maids preferred brooms. The hotel did hold our bags for us after check out so we could explore the town before we had to head out of town.
Breakfast was a bad joke. You went into the office, stood behind a table next to the front desk & the desk clerk brought you a wrapped pastry, a coffee or a juice. You were not allowed in the small breakfast room. It was not filling or tasty. The coffee cup was more like a thimble.
The path down to the harbor / lighthouse was more worn with some added tiles.
Breakfast was a bad joke. You went into the office, stood behind a table next to the front desk & the desk clerk brought you a wrapped pastry, a coffee or a juice. You were not allowed in the small breakfast room. It was not filling or tasty. The coffee cup was more like a thimble.

While the hotel's location and nearby dining options are definite highlights, the state of the building and fixtures needs attention.
Very close to the freeway and there is a Denny's, In & Out and a Mexican restaurant nearby (may be more). While its at a great spot, the building definitely needs a thorough overhaul. The lock for the shower broke and I got stuck inside :D, however the staff on duty promptly sent help, else would have spent the night in the bathroom.
If management invests in the property's upkeep, it could transform into a truly great place to stay.

The bed was comfortable and the shower/toilet area was clean. Towels were clean. The room had a fridge and microwave which was very helpful. The hotel is in walking distance of the harbor/beach which was super convenient and why I chose it. However the sink had a bad smell coming from the drain. The hot tub was green and smelled bad and our bathing suits smelled horrible after using it. The walls are super thin and we had a family with kids next to us and we could hear EVERYTHING that was going on in that room. The decor in the room needs updated (torn curtains, cracked lampshade).

This place seems to be having some issues in the later years. This trip was problematic due to Covid 19. No coffee makers, ice machines, ice buckets or even plastic cups in the rooms. The front desk courtesy is sadly lacking and we had to register through a little side window outside the office. They locked the gate leading up from the harbor at 9PM on a Saturday night and we had to walk through the parking lot of the Holiday Inn next door and go out front of the hotel, through that parking lot to get to our room A clear safety issue. The pool/spa was closed as was the continental breakfast, due to the virus. Been coming here since 04 and I think it may be time to rethink this and maybe stay elsewhere next time.

The pool is heated.
There is a microwave , fridge+ coffee maker in the room. The hotel does serve continental breakfast that does not include any waffles. There are leaflets at the front desk for different attractions , however the hotel does not sell tickets for these venues.
How ever tickets to these attractions can be purchased from the California Welcome Center which is within walking distance.
