This is a beautiful hotel right in front of the beach and the pier. You can enjoy the splendorous sunsets every day while while walking by the beach feeling the warm soft sand under your feet. On that Sunday 16 of February, the afternoon lady at the front desk welcomes you with a friendly and warmth smile as you enter the hotel. I enjoy the sound of the sea waves as I woke up every morning!
We called the club and requested to upgrade to ocean view room. Glad we did- it cost extra but worth it. Room has a balcony overlooking the Pacific ocean- right across the street (The Strand). Kitchen is adequeately appointed.Bed is comfortable.
Firstly, I want to say most importantly...the staff (minus one person) was amazing. Sincere, kind, friendly, they look happy to be there and work there. It was really refreshing & honestly was the best part of the "hotel". Exception was, an older sounding lady we spoke with on the phone the day of check in. Check in was stated as 4pm, we happened to get there super early (10ish) and called just to see if there was the possibility of checking in early. The lady was super abrupt, it sounded like I was talking to someone on their personal house line, definitely not professional or friendly, and she briskly told me there is no early check in & the earliest they could do was 4pm. Fine. We kept ourselves busy. We called at 4pm, we were told to come in to check in (different from what it said on the confirmation email). We were checked in by a super friendly guy, and there was another super friendly man & women there as well. We booked a 1 bedroom. We checked in without incident, got to our room and it was not what we expected. There's a reason the common areas aren't shown in the pictures, it looks like it hasn't been updated in several years. Checking in at exactly the earliest time possible, we probably got the worst room (or string of rooms) in the entire hotel. Our view was of the door of the rooms that had the ocean view. If we stood on the balcony, we could see a part of the ocean. It was bad. I took many pics, I wish I could upload them here. But the "view" was awful,. The other guests at this "hotel" were very loud (we visited during the week), there was supposedly a curfew of 10pm, it wasn't upholded at all. Quite honestly, we had the worst sleep we had ever had..even my kids were over it. So, to summarize, I would say this is a great place to go if you're a college kid and you're with all your friends, and you're trying to party all night long, during your entire stay. BUT if you are a family with kids, if you're a couple looking for a romantic getaway, this is not your place. The people are "party" people, even the old ones. Also, FYI a lot of guests had to constantly be asked by staff to put their masks on. I felt bad for the staff because of the stupidity of it all. For example, they'd see a guest with no mask on, staff would politely ask if they had a mask, the stupid guest would say yes and reach in their pocket, show their mask, and put it back in their pocket...so the staff would have to spoon feed them and ask them to WEAR IT ON THEIR FACE.…
We love the Beach Club so much that we have bought 3 units so our family can come with us! We look forward to our home away from home every year! We love that we can walk right out to the beach. The new furniture this year is very nice!
I was excited about this property and all of the great reviews it gets. I too would have left on a positive note if we'd been given an ocean front room that we were hoping for and willing to upgrade for. Everyone was nice on the phone when I requested it but arriving in person I was told "a partial ocean view is all we can do". This partial ocean view did indeed have a corner window facing the pier and ocean but it also included a large view of a sterile, boring courtyard and a great view of the neighboring pavilion used by the homeless. We spent zero time on the small balcony facing into the courtyard. What is really frustrating is how empty the place appeared during our visit. There were never more than 6 cars in the garage and we never saw more than 3 groups of guests the whole time. Never saw a single person on the ocean front balconies. Guess us regular hotel guests aren't good enough for the nice rooms... I would have booked one initially but was never given the option. Pros: the housekeepers do a great job maintaining the rooms as everything was very clean and updated, lots of chairs, umbrellas, beach toys to borrow (boogie boards $3/day), beach cruisers also available to borrow, proximity to the beach and pier is as close as you can get. Cons: obviously the unwillingness to get us into an ocean front room, unwilling to let us leave our car in the garage from 11am-1pm after checkout "since new guests will be coming" but check in isn't until 4pm and there was only 1 other car in the garage when we left, lots of noise between rooms and especially from above, beds not overly comfortable-we woke up sore each morning, no eagerness from staff to go above and beyond. If an ocean front room is important to you as it is to us I would not stay here unless you have a 110% confirmed in writing guarantee that you'll get that type of room. If you don't care then it's probably worth a stay but I don't think we would come back.…
