We had a pleasant mini-getaway at the Occidental Lodge. The property appeared to be upgraded from its motel days and was tastefully decorated. Staff was friendly. We stayed in a superior king room, which was nicely updated. However, the layout was a bit odd, with a clothes rack (hooks, no hangers) crammed in with a dresser and mini fridge while there was lots of empty space elsewhere. Also, a guy that didn't seem like a guest spent a lot of time smoking pot in the front corner of the parking lot. Speaking of which, parking was a cinch. And seeing as Occidental is a small town, dinner and breakfast were a short walk away. Overall, we had a good time and would consider staying here again.
We had a Superior King room on the 2nd floor. Nice uodated decor, appreciated the toiletries. The location is unbelievably convenient. Hop right across the street for coffee or breakfast at Howard’s. Occidental is tiny to begin with so all restaurants are within easy walking distance. The best two things about this place are the very convenient location and staff member Susan who was intelligent, helpful and a real human being with a pleasant personality. I wasn’t sure if we wanted to come in July or Spetember, so she made two reservations for me knowing that I was going to cancel one. Then when I cancelled the September one, she recognized me on the phone immediately and it was done easy peasy. She communicates clearly and has a positive, eager-to-help attitude. The worst thing about it is the beds are very soft. At least OURS was - another reviewer complained about her bed being too hard! LOL! Wish we’d had that room. Also, the bottom sheet keeps sliding around and wrinkling under you because it is not a fitted sheet, it’s a flat sheet masquerading as a fitted sheet. This is a pet peeve of mine, but to be fair, it is very common. Lots of motels have that flaw. Overall, I would stay here again because of the convenience. TIP: bring a non-skid shower mat if you are traveling with a senior. Shower floors are slippery. Also bring hangers for your clothes; they are not provided.…
Occidental Hotel did not meet our expectations. The photos shared of the room and amenities did not match the room we were put in. Room was very old and run down. Not like the newly remodeled rooms shown in the photos. We had booked three nights but decided to check out after our first night because of this lack of value. Added on top of that we were placed in a ground floor room below other guests who were partying and stomping on the ground all through the night and into the early morning past 6am. There was no hotel staff on site in the evening and through the morning, making us incapable of speaking with a staff member. Hotel has been difficult to get ahold of to request a refund for the nights we did not stay. Have not responded to multiple emails.
My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. Modern upgrades to flooring and bathroom which were nice/cute. Greatly appreciated choices in pillows (I like a really thin pillow, husband likes the puffy kind), so that was great. Firm mattress which was ok. Peculiar shower faucet - must have been an installation mistake but otherwise good water pressure. One bar of soap - awkward to keep moving soap from bathroom sink into the room with the shower. Really liked the citrus scented soap & shampoo. Loved having the bathrobes! A/C and heat worked well. Too much outdoor light; better room darkening curtains needed. Good location but small town so that probably didn't matter too much. Nicer motel than the clientele - people are so noisy, talking with such loud voices. Cleaning staff broke my personal coffee mug! No apology!…
I couldn't stay. I tried. I even bought a stupid candle for $18 from some overpriced hippie shop nearby. The smell of old, musty carpets and drywall was too much and we forfeited our money and drove back home rather than spend a night in a place that made my skin crawl. Invest money and get the place renovated. It is in a beautiful setting. It deserved some attention and care.
We always stay at this little place when we go for our spa weekend -- Occidential is such a great little town and this place is clean, cozy, close to everything. The only weird thing --- they sometimes have issues with the keys not working.... and they use real KEYS.
This was a stay for two nights to visit old friends before we went down to Petaluma for a high school reunion. We had a lovely room in the back, looking out onto the pool. The pool is small but lovely and has lots of chairs and tables, so we could sit out there with friends and have a glass of wine before we went off to dinner at Occidental's wonderful restaurants. This is a family-owned hotel with a lot of Occidental history attached to it. The rooms are very clean and nice, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the location is great - right at the end of Occiedental's main street with easy access to all the restaurants and shops.
Decor needs major overhaul! We had no place to sit except on the bed. No lotion and little tiny shampoo and conditioner. Take the coffee out of the rooms. It is awful! If you need to go get ice, the whole ice maker are feels like the back of a dirty gas station. I will never stay again...way overpriced....and noisy.
So it's 4:30 am and the person in the room above us, has not stopped pacing the floor. It is not the hotels fault, however, you dont want a bottom floor room. Needed a get away, and this quaint motor lodge served the purpose. It's not far from the coast and Bodega Bay. The very small town of Occidental, CA is pretty cute, with a few neat stores and pub/restaurants, organic grocery, and interesting locals. It seems when the hippie scene moved from San Fran, many came here. The result is a friendly town. Back to the hotel, sorry. I booked online with Booking.com. I called to make sure I had a dog friendly guestroom. I was told the pet fee was $40, and that is fine. Arrived to a young lady at the Front Desk who was amazingly friendly and welcoming. Our room had a cute placemat just inside the door with stainless steel doggie bowls waiting...great addition. The room is fine, and includes a small refridge and microwave, plus coffee. The Citrus shampoo, conditioner and soaps were very nice. The bed was firm...a bit to firm for my back, so my sleep was not restful which I really needed...and the the night-walker started above me...ugh. Restaurants are literally next door and across the street. Overall a cute place...a bit on expensive side for modest accommodations, but I'd stay again.…
We reserved a room here for two nights recently. After arriving, we discovered that our room had mold in it. We informed the desk clerk that we could not stay in that room but unfortunately, no other rooms were available. Although it was a very busy weekend in Occidental, the clerk was able to find us a room for one night nearby. That was fine.....until they charged us for the full amount, despite the fact that we didn't stay there. While we were making these alternative arrangements with the front desk, three calls came in asking if they had any availability for that very weekend; that is, they easily could have replaced us with other customers. But they didn't, preferring to charge us for a moldy room we couldn't stay in. STAY AWAY.
