Our visit and 4-night's stay were nothing short of superb! The offering of wine each night was an excellent personal touch. This presented the opportunity to further engage with staff and guests. The Breakfast each morning, cited as a Continental Breakfast, went a few steps further. We enjoyed each morning with the standard pastry, fruit and coffee, however, at Occidental, we also were presented with Greek Yogurt, Granola and other items for the yogurt, BACON (incredibly tasting bacon), Perfectly made Hard Boil eggs, among so much more. Let's get to the grounds and rooms. Awesome - really. The Inn was nicely decorated, furnished - made you feel right at home. The rooms, exceptionally comfortable, and the staff made available other rooms and suites (at no extra charge!! I might not -- supposed to mention that). It must have been our charm. This is a place anyone would like to come back to again and again. Highly recommended.

We had the great good fortune to be the only guests at the inn the night we stayed. Marilyn was a gracious host and offered us a free upgrade to a larger room in the lodge building behind the inn, which we accepted. Wine is served in the afternoon, and because we were the only guests we could sip our wine in the fireplace lounge without COVID worries. Likewise, they set up a table for us in the lounge at breakfast, which included a grilled grapefruit, a delicious omelette, breads and muffins. It was a special experience.

Wrapped up the last 2 nights of our trip in Occidental. Had never heard of the town before we started planning our trip. Really chose it as we wanted to be close to Redwoods and the coast. The location gave us both. The inn itself had a wonderful team and were incredibly gracious and kind. The rooms were great for what we needed. One (Cut Glass) had a hot tub. Both had king-sized beds. The rooms are a tad-bit worn, but clean and comfortable. The breakfast is more continental than a full spread, but delicious. We had dinner at Hazel our first night and it was fantastic. Weather was rainy our first day there, but we spent our one full day around Bodega Bay. It was a gorgeous day in a beautiful location. All in all, a great end to our trip and we’re happy that we found it.

Enjoyed the private view from our third floor level room, which was spacious and romantic. Get a lower level room if stairs are not easy for you. Easy walking to the cute village. They don’t do full breakfast here probably relating to pandemic. We enjoyed dinner at Hazel a lot. Could have used a chair in the large double sink area. Fireplace was cozy. Thermostat didn’t seem to work however so we were a bit too hot. Enjoyed the large bathtub but the jacuzzi jets were too forceful after a few minutes.

Stayed here with my husband last night for a short weekend getaway. So glad we did! Marilyn welcomed us with a generous pour of local wine (Pinot and Chardonnay), which we enjoyed out in the pretty courtyard. We then headed to Underwood Bistro for a delicious dinner of French and Thai food, plus excellent cocktails. We returned to a quiet, tranquil house. We happened to run into Jerome, the manager, who introduced himself and had a friendly chat. After a good night’s sleep, we woke up to the smell of baked goods. Turned out to be the lovely Lena in the kitchen, preparing a breakfast of scones, cinnamon rolls, yogurt, granola, fruits, etc. She also offered helpful tips about the area. In sum, the Inn at Occidental was everything we wanted it to be: a peaceful, charming base from which to explore the Sonoma Coast. We look forward to returning for many future visits!

This is our first time out during the pandemic. My wife and I decided to spend her birthday out of the city & find a quiet place not too far from where we live. This place is an absolute gem! The setting & atmosphere of the place is very quire & restive. The only sound you can hear is the water from the beautiful fountain as you enter the main house. From there, we were greeted with a warm smile by Jerome. He suggested places to eat & wineries to go to within the area. The room was pleasantly cozy and clean. I ordered a chocolate cake for my wife's birthday, and it was delicious! I had to wife restrain her from eating everything! Another surprise we didn't expect was the breakfast meals. It was prepared from scratch by Chef Gerard, and it was outstanding! We looked forward waking up in the morning, and having breakfast. His creations were amazing! Thank you Inn at Occidental, we will definitely come back!

I booked this stay for my birthday weekend. I have always loved Occidental. There is great road riding right from town and I wanted to finally spend the night. I was pleasantly surprised to find this Inn. I had a wonderful stay. I arrived, parked in their driveway and took a 4 hour road ride to the coast and return. I was pleasantly greeted by Marilyn for my check in and she wished me a very nice birthday. I moved into my overnight room and love that the gas fireplace is the only heat. I had a lovely deck off my room. I enjoyed wine night in their quaint dining and living space - also fireside. COVID restrictions fully enforced. I bought take out Italian at Negris in town and took it back to my room. The next morning I called in our take out breakfast - I was given my own carafe of coffee, creams, etc. The breakfast was pretty stellar for being served COVID style. I was impressed. Saved my beignet for lunch as the breakfast of poached egg and hollaindase, waffle with their special apple syrup was quite filling. I would have given my stay 5 stars except the mattress needs full replacement. The linens were lovely, but couldn't hide the mattress divets. As it was my 50th birthday - bed quality becomes paramount when traveling!! My shower also turned cold for about 2 minutes mid-shower. Luckily I waited to turn it off entirely as the heat did come back on. But this can be switched out at a plumbing level - and should be. At full price accommodations, this shouldn't be an issue. Otherwise - my stay was really lovely and the Inn made it extra special. My birthday flowers and little note were a sweet little touch. And love the painting and cute desk and other details in the studios. My studio was quite spacious.

My family and I needed a getaway from the city, and we were lucky enough to find this place last minute....by last minute, I mean the day before our check-in, and I highly appreciate the inn taking us with this last minute booking. We had the Sonoma cottage, which was really a house on its own that provided space for family to gather. We were a group of 4 adults and 2 kids, and the staff was nice enough to get everything set up (which is not always the case with pull-out couch if you need to use it). The entire experience was great - staff was amazing. We were first greeted by Mike (on his first day!) who was super nice, and then Marilyn helped us check in with tons of great recommendations. The staff in the morning (sorry do not have the names) was also super helpful - it can be busy with limited staff, but they went above and beyond bringing the boxed food to our front porch! The portion of breakfast was huge (not sure why other review says skimpy...). We each had sausage scrambled egg, beignet and yogurt & fruit parfait on the first day, and then benedict, scone and parfait on the second day. I think the breakfast was really good. As to activities, there's farmer's market on Fridays. We got great fruits and enjoyed food there. The restaurants in town are limited but the food we had was great. We spent the day at beaches and trails along the bodega bay and also russian river. So great location to explore the area. We would've planned for a return trip already, but the glass fire broke out right after we left. Can't wait to return while things go back to a bit more normal!

Thank you for staying with us and we are pleased that your were able to enjoy our Sonoma Cottage. Our staff is very knowledgeable about the area and enjoys assisting guests with their plans. We are blessed to have Chef Gerald. We get many compliments on his breakfasts, especially the eggs benedict. We're happy that you were able to take advantage of the nearby beaches, the Russian River and local restaurants. The air quality is great and the skies are blue. We hope to welcome you back soon!

Have been here several times over the years. Great getaway. Usually in December but did September this year and loved the warm weather and ability to take advantage of outside sitting areas. Marilyn at the desk is fantastic...she alone is 5 star! Delicious breakfast. And this year the processes to stay safe and clean among the COVID pandemic were very good.

Recently we booked two nights at this inn to celebrate a special occasion. Unfortunately our stay turned out to be a very real disappointment. Some of the staff were not very pleasant. Mistakes were also made by staff during our registration that resulted in our being significantly overcharged when checking out. The owner made an adjustment but he still insisted on overcharging us significantly. Quite apart from that there were a number of other disappointments. Breakfast is usually a special treat in a bed-and-breakfast inn but our breakfast was skimpy with a small portion of an egg dish, a mini tub of yogurt/granola and one small dry scone with no butter or preserves offered with it. Not at all appetizing or satisfying. In the evening wine was served at the reception desk in small glasses but with no crackers, cheese or snacks of any sort to make it a pleasant time. Our room was adequate except that the gas fireplace provided so little gas that the flame was tiny and provided no heat or light to make the room feel warm and cheerful. Overall the inn was adequate but with no real concern for guests and not a great attitude it was not particularly enjoyable. We’ve stayed in many inns in the wine country and on the coast and all were much more enjoyable with much better quality and value than here so we do not recommend this one.

There are two sides to every story. Our goal is to provide a wonderful, pleasant, and safe experience for all of our guests. Occasionally, in the guests' eyes, we fail. We feel we did our utmost to please Mr. Jones and to accommodate his request for the Marbles Suite. He had credit due to a cancellation due to the Covid lockdown, but it did not cover the upgrade to the suite. Unfortunately, he did not seem to understand the additional charge. We take his comments to heart and will use his feedback to make certain future situations are fully understood. He did send an email to thank us for the price adjustment as noted: "Thank you for your reply and for making the adjustment with the upgrade at $80 plus tax, not the $160 indicated on the changed reservation. I will look for the refund in our credit card statement in the next day or two. Thank you for being so helpful and for making the adjustment. Thank you again. Theodore."
