My wife and I are passionate travelers, world travelers at that, and when we stepped out of our car after a 4 1/2 hour trip to Oakhurst, a dozen or so miles from our target destination, Yosemite National Park, we unexpectedly stepped into a time warp, a throwback to the old world! This 10 room only Château ( a Relais & Château member) greets you like a long, lost relative, relieving you of all the usual mundane arrival concerns such as cars, keys, luggage, etc. and you’re whisked to your room which has a name, distinct from any of the others. Ours was the “Lavender Room”. Before you get to your room and trying to bypass the goodies in the foyer i.e. the cakes, cookies, candies to get to your room is an obstacle in itself and then, when you think you’ve just gotten the upper hand, more are IN YOUR ROOM! And, so much of it is home made. I won’t go into the 5 star, 7 course dinner experience as my wife and I simply can’t eat that much but you can read the sumptuous reviews for yourself! We just slithered past the exquisite outdoor French countryside dinner setting down into the wine cellar and bar where we had marvelous wine and “tapas” to match any you might find in the fine Spanish tapas bars. Descending the spiral staircase in the morning is another experience as the breakfast aromas overwhelm you as all thoughts of simple continental fare fly out the window! Upon arrival at your table you’re presented with a personally inscribed foldout brochure (“Bonjour Mr. & Mrs. Lind”) with the breakfast menu, the weather forecast, highlights of Yosemite to visit, travel directions, etc.! Departing the establishment is not an easy task as goodbyes are not the usual hotel exiting situation. A baggie with goodies, pistachios, waters, brochures, etc. are provided along with a bottle of wine, a Relais & Château tome, and anything else you might want to purchase. In summary, there is a long 35 year history to the restaurant and 28 years for the Château which is written up in the material in your room and which I won’t repeat here but suffice it to say that the old world highest standards have been demanded of all employees for the duration and, in interviewing some of their people, all seem to display a passion to exemplify that spirit. The service was impeccable!

Chateau du Sureau has an outstanding service, all the staff without exception was extremely friendly and all the accommodations were excellent. The bed was super comfortable and the whole area is very pristine and less than one mile away from the shops in Oakhurst. Chateau du Sureau is definitely a hotel I will recommend to anyone who's interested in visiting Yosemite. And they are super pet friendly as well, our two little dogs had a great time there. Ps.: the guys responsible for the gardening are doing an excellent job!

This was a birthday celebration trip with a side trip to Yosemite. Great place to stay, especially with a small group of couples. Children were there but it’s more adult oriented. Impeccable service from the staff from start to end of stay! Surrounding businesses/restaurants close early (8 or 9 pm) so plan early dinners. Unique rooms and decor take you back to a time in Europe where elegance and luxury were the norm. Lovely property!

This is a fabulous property for relaxation and total pampering. It is close to Yosemite National Park and served as a great home base after exploring the area each day. The spa was fabulous. Excellent wine selection. The dining choices at the hotel were outstanding (restaurant and bar) and there were several dining options in the town of Oakhurst. Although pricey, Chateau de Sureau was worth it for a special getaway!

As an anniversary treat, my husband reserved a night at Chateau du Sureau, and I definitely want to go back! I've never received such detailed gracious service. The building, grounds, and furnishings were exquisite, and breakfast was tastefully understated and delicious.
