I love this little gem of a place! You can choose a "theme" caboose which is totally detached from all the others, hence total privacy...including a hot tub/jacuzzi in every caboose. The owners are delightful and totally helpful. The property is on Clear Lake...which is beautiful. Lots to do closeby, but doing nothing is absolutely perfect, too. Breakfast is included and is always delicious. I've been there twice now, friends are going this week, and I look forward to my next visit. Be sure to swing on the big swing attached to an old oak:)

Every now and again in life and travels you stumble across a unique and wonderful experience. For me one of those was having the privilege of finding the featherbed railroad b&b.

We headed up to Clearlake on a recent road trip through North Cali and happened to stop by the tourist information post looking for somewhere to stop. They put the featherbed on our list and even when it was described we knew its where we would want to stop! You get to sleep in a US railcar!! What more could you ask?!

We just missed the booking office as its closed from 12-3 so if you're dropping in then make sure you avoid this time. We headed back at 3 and were greeted by the owner Tony. A wonderful man who just seems to add to the mystique of the place. Chatty, charismatic and full of stories he booked us to the easy rider room whilst the model train ambled its way around the reception and dining room ceiling. Outside on the veranda an old radio played tunes and somehow whisked you away to a magical place.

The Easy Rider caboose was awesome. Notwithstanding the fact it's a converted caboose the whole theme had an air of fun and kitsch frivolity about it. The room was spacious, had a jacuzzi bath and a few other little fun surprises that I'll leave you to find out.

The setting is wonderful next to the lake shore and I can only imagine that in the summer to sit and enjoy a glass of wine on the hotel's private jetty looking across the water is divine (it was raining the evening we stopped!).

After a cosy an sound night's sleep we ventured into the main station house for breakfast. Again Tony greeted us and settled us in for a hearty breakfast - including dessert! Because there's always time for dessert (a man out of my own heart!)

We headed out from the featherbed beautifully rested, pleasantly fed and with a lovely light hearted skip in our step.

There is something truly magical and youth infusing about this place. I'm no railway geek, but to have the opportunity to stop in a caboose is something everyone should experience. We didn't stop smiling from the second we drove onto the property.

If you're ever within an hour's drive of this place then you need to make the detour and make it a place to stop !!

We loved the place. We used a Living Social coupon which was great because I would not have known the Featherbed Railroad was even there if not for the Living Social coupon. The grounds were beautiful, a park-like setting. The breakfasts were awesome and filling and our caboose was lovely. The jaccuzzi tub was huge and I loved how far apart each caboose was. They felt very private. There was a rope swing in the middle of the grass area and I decided right then, this was what heaven must look like!! We got to see several of the different cabooses on the inside and each were all wonderfully decorated. I can't wait to go again and try a different caboose. Definitely go!!

For my husband and I who travel on business, we are always looking for something special - something that isn't an anonymous chain hotel. Looking out over the crystal waters of Clear Lake from our own private caboose is exactly what we wanted. Something completely different, special and magical. And the slight movement I kept feeling made me think I was actually "riding the rails." High quality amenities in each room add to the pleasure. But the main differentiator was our hosts. From the first moment, you feel like a welcome guest, not a paying party. The warmth of the main station, the amazing beer-pairing dinner and the general friendliness around the fire made it feel like coming home.

We stayed two nights in the "Easy Rider" caboose as we are Harley enthusiasts. We had
such a good time. The caboose was decorated with a Harley headboard complete with
handlebars, jucuzzi tub trimmed in orange and black and had a child-size Harley in the
cupala. Both breakfasts were excellent; quiche and sausage with fruit and a little ice cream
and coffee cake one morning. Baked french toast with bacon on the second day. The couple
that run it are very knowlegeable about the area. We would definitely come back.

We recently stayed at the Featherbed for one night while on a northern CA driving tour. Staying on the caboose was a real treat. If you are a train fan (or even if you're not) this was a really neat way of treating yourself to something entirely unique. We were on the Wild West car, which had a nice deep clawfoot tub and comfy bed. There's a lookout perch you can climb in to read or just sit. Breakfast in the morning was prompt and delicious. The hosts were friendly and welcoming. Because of the pouring rain, we didn't get to do much outside near the lake but it's right across the street. Not much else to do around the property but still worth the stay.

We were drawn to this lovely, unusual place based on the photos and we booked it for my boyfriend's birthday last fall, staying in the Celebration Caboose. Upon booking, I immediately received a call from the owners, just thanking us for booking and asking me if we had any special requests and what occasion we were celebrating. I advised them of my boyfriend's birthday and they took notes. Upon our arrival, we found that the grounds were lush, well-kept, and tranquil. It truly had a resort feeling: tucked away and peaceful with a gorgeous view of the lake and an adult-sized swing that must be experienced! The owners, Tony and Peggy, were both present upon our check-in and they encouraged us to explore the station house and the grounds. Our room was decorated for my boyfriend's birthday with banners and small decorations. The bed was amazingly soft and comfortable. The hot tub was excellent. Staying a caboose that was separated from other rooms offered a quiet sense of privacy which was very relaxing and unique. Breakfast was lovely (a German farmer's breakfast to celebrate the Oktoberfest which was happening in town that day). We had a truly lovely getaway weekend.

We had the pleasure of staying here for two nights as a surprise trip for the fella's birthday. We stayed in the Casablanca Caboose, and enjoyed every minute of our stay. The owners definitely put time and attention into the details.

The resort itself is very unique and relaxing. The dining room/lounge area was cozy and decorated for the holidays. There were a wide selection of teas, fresh coffee, and some snacks available throughout the day. Puzzles, books, magazines, games and movies are available to borrow during your stay. Don't miss breakfast from 9-10am each day! Tony prepared us delicious food to start each day. One morning we enjoyed ham & spinach crepes with a delicious tomato basil sauce, and a hazelnut chocolate crepe for dessert. The following morning was fresh fruit, a cornbread crusted quiche, and jam filled aebleskiver for dessert.

The cabooses are located just across the street from the lake, providing a lovely view in the morning and evening. Be sure to take a ride on the tree swing, it's the tallest one I've ever seen! There is a private dock to access the lake. Within walking distance is a dive bar/BBQ joint, and also a grocery store with a surprisingly extensive liquor selection!

We loved the Casablanca Caboose. It was even better than the photos, and larger inside than I'd expected it to be. There is a piano (with "As Time Goes By" sheet music!), a bar with mini fridge, a copy of the script, and some lovely movie artwork adorning the walls. The bed was very comfy, with a recessed ceiling fan above. The hot tub was spacious and it was amazing to soak in the hot water while watching Casablanca.

We are looking forward to coming back and enjoying another caboose!
