    Great experience!
The Inn was lovely on a nice street. We could access the Inn with a code to get in and our key was available to pick up inside. We had a fireplace in our room and a jet tub as well as a shower. The bed was comfortable and the food was excellent! We also were given a small bottle of sparkling wine and divine chocolate truffles. We were within 8 miles of Yountville where my (adult) daughter took a balloon ride with Aloft Balloon Rides. I took photos but next time I want to go up as well. It was all very lovely.

    Best recommendation I’ve ever taken
A friend recommended The Inn on First and specifically mentioned Jim as an amazing host and the fantastic breakfasts. I was a bit skeptical as my wife and I generally want to get away and be more “anonymous” to the guests at a hotel or restaurant. We. Loved. Our. Stay! Jim greeted us with a smile and gave us the overview of the place. The warm dining room, beautiful foyer and chill living room with couches, games, fireplace and of course the included Port wine was a nice touch. Up the stairs to 5 bedrooms (enough) separated to make even the most ambitious feel at home was nice. The room is spacious and the large bathroom with dual sinks allow for buzzed banter after a day of wine exploration as you get ready for an evening out. I found myself by the living room fire chatting up other guests as my wife got ready and everyone was happy, sharing their day and looking for recommendations. We all saw each other throughout the weekend as fellow members of an exclusive club that others would be jealous to join, yet we all were just couples on a fun weekend. Breakfast is....AMAZING. Skip the Oxbow market and overpriced coffees, Jim and Jamie offer a great 2 course meal of fruit, yoghurt and fresh pastry followed by a main dish that amazed every day. I am gluten free and Jamie welcomes me with a plate of warm GF cookies and every meal was prepared GF and just as amazing as my wife’s meal. If you’ve never tried a B&B, this place will ruin you for life. Don’t skip it a part of your passion for Napa!
Dear DaveDew00, We're really pleased you enjoyed your stay and we can't thank you enough for sharing so much detail with your fellow travelers here on TA. Jim does go out of his way to make the breakfast experience special for everyone, and nothing makes us happier than hearing the friendly banter among guests at the table. Gluten free? Not an issue! Vegan? Jim can handle it, and everyone enjoys an equally enjoyable breakfast. We hope you won't be strangers, and thanks again. Jamie

The ONLY place to stay in Napa!!!
We love to travel and have never had an experience like we did at the Inn on First. Jim and Jamie paid such great attention to detail when they crafted the visitor experience. The breakfast is incredibly unique and DELICIOUS. We would have paid a lot for meals like these in Napa but instead they are included with the price of the room, which is already reasonable. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was a great size. The shower was plenty big enough for my 6'5 husband who often has trouble with shorter, smaller showers when traveling. The room has a picnic backpack you can take with you on your day. There is an iPad if you have ANY questions regarding AC, heat, jacuzzi (yes jacuzzi), check out, etc. They thought through EVERYTHING! They thought through everything you may ask or need including recommendation lists, water bottles to take with you on your day, fridge in the living room, ice bucket in the dining room, umbrellas by the door, ice packs, bathrobes, wine opener and everything was labeled in your room! We also loved how convenient it was to park in their back parking lot and come and go as we wanted day/night. The Inn isn't a far drive to vineyards (15-45 min) and it is walkable to downtown taste rooms and restaurants. We will never go back to Napa without staying with Jim and Jamie. We look forward to returning one day!
Dear mbmaxwell4, We're so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay and thanks for sharing with the TA community so many details that we've incorporated over the years in an effort to make the guest experience as enjoyable as possible. The best thing about those iPads is the ease in which we can update current information for each guest. Of course, we're still available to share everything in our heads that we can't possibly include on the iPad! We look forward to your next visit and again, thanks for sharing so much detail here. Jamie

Excellent stay at the Inn. 5 minute walk to downtown Napa. Room was clean and orderly. All amenities were well stocked. Easy to access with contactless check in. Breakfast was a huge perk. Everything was delicious and satisfying. It was fresh and tasty, made by in house chef, fresh fruit and yogurt with homemade granola, plus a homemade pastry was available upon walking in. Hot breakfast was served moments later with coffee, tea and orange juice. Fresh baked Cookies were available later in the day whenever you wanted. Cindy was cheery and welcoming in the morning. We met a nice couple at the table one morning and loved having breakfast together the next day. Would definitely return again without hesitation.

We booked this because of the location and have been delighted by what we found. The Inn is right on the edge of town and walkable to everything. We booked a king room that is incredibly spacious. Truffles and sparkling wine awaited us when we arrived with contactless checkin. Later we found the main house for a cup of tea and complimentary cookies. Nice space out back to sit by the fire! Parking is plentiful and right outside. Really a wonderful place to stay in Napa!

I mostly agree with Akron TravelBug's April 2023 review just below, except for breakfast. One morning was egg noodles with diced mixed vegetables, tossed with some sort of gravy and topped with flavored bread crumbs and a poached egg, the next day was a calzone with a little bit of Italian sausage, pepper and onion, topped with tomato sauce and a poached egg. It wasn't that they were poorly prepared, and I realize this is just my personal preference, it's just not the kind of food I like for breakfast. Fortunately there was also yogurt, fresh fruit, and mini scones or turnovers.. Our room, #6, was lovely - clean, spacious, and comfortable. The only information the owners neglected to send is that access to their parking lot is from the street behind the inn. I recommend The Inn on First, but with the caveat that it doesn't feel like a bed and breakfast experience, more like a hotel with breakfast. It's very impersonal and no one is around, other than at breakfast, to answer questions or make recommendations.

Hi and thank you for taking the time to send a review. Yes we do a spin on breakfast / lunch in the am. We like to prepare our guests for a busy day and some hopeful wine tasting. We do offer fresh home made pastries each am along with the yogurt bar for guests who want more of a traditional bite :) We do give our guests space and are here for any needs. Thank you

Excellent B&B and it was a very pleasant experience. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5* rating is I was under the impression it was run by Jim & Jamie (if you read past reviews), and that is not the case. A corporation purchased it, so you will not meet the owners, and it won't have that personal touch. You will not be greeted by anyone, in fact, the only time you encounter staff is at breakfast. By the way Isabella is amazing, so sweet and has the biggest smile, you can tell she loves the Inn and she will make you feel very welcomed. The location is perfect and easily walk- able to downtown Napa - about 5 to 10 minutes. Free parking in the back, and there are little areas around the outside for seating. The Inn only had a few guest at the time, so we sat on the front porch and had it all to ourselves. This was a special birthday for me, and my husband worked with the staff to make it special and helped to arrange a bottle of champagne and balloons. He said they were pleasant to work with and made it happen seamlessly. Our room was a great size and had everything we needed. It was very clean! It had a corner bathtub, comfortable bed and plenty of storage area. Our room was at the front and being on the main drag, you can hear traffic, but it didn't bother us. If you are a light sleeper you might want to bring earplugs. Note to staff: perhaps you can provide a white noise machine for those light sleepers :) I was surprised by all the labels saying don't do this, or don't do that. I get it - we have a rental property and you want to communicate things to your guest on how to operate things, but they can be toned down a bit, or perhaps smaller labels? Check in was easy, but you need to make sure you read everything on how to get in, as no one is there to greet you. They have cookies downstairs when we checked in during the day - what a nice touch. Getting to the wifi was an issue. You have to go to the provided ipad in your room and select the wifi icon. Since the ipad is not locked down and past guests must have modify it, and we had to dig for the App. Fortunately my husband is in IT and is a tech person, so he was able to figure it out, otherwise we would of had an issue. Also, in order to know how to adjust the heating in the room, you had to go to the ipad. Having an ipad in each room to facilitate things, just didn't make sense. This isn't a modern B&B, so not sure why the owners want it to be high tech. I think they complicated things - a simple book or one page summary would have made things simple. Breakfast is amazing!!! We spent 2 nights at the Inn, but missed the first morning's breakfast as we had an early hot air balloon flight. We reached out to the staff and they arranged a grab and go breakfast for us - thank you! The second morning we were greeted by Isabella and had coffee and orange juice as we wait for the breakfast to be made (made to order and fresh). It was pouched eggs, over rosemary potatoes and homemade break and homemade jam - it was delicious and gourmet, restaurant quality for sure! Overall, would I stay again - of course! Like I said, there were just a few hiccups, but overall it was a great stay!

I often visit Napa and Napa Valley and have tried a variety of wonderful hotels and wonderful bed and breakfast in Napa. I do not plan to ever return to this hotel again. I have never in all the years I have visited Napa had an experience as unpleasant as this. I would never have visited this hotel Had their website been clear about the unusual and unreasonable arrangements , lack of security that are required in order to stay here . Front door was locked and impenetrable when I arrived. There was no innkeeper/manager /security guard available when I arrived . By extraordinary good luck , after waiting about an hour - A maid arrived let me in and found the key. I did not speak Spanish. The maid did not speak English . I discovered There is an extra charge for arriving early . I have arrived early at other premium and luxury hotels in the United States, and in other countries around the world and there has never been a charge for arriving early. Despite reading the instructions and looking for at least half an hour on their iPad, I could not find the Wi-Fi password. I was expecting to be able to work on important business that required an Internet connection to be able to do that work . I needed to do that work prior to a business meeting the next day. I could not work as i had planned. Whenever I visit a hotel in Napa or anywhere in the world I have Internet access. This is the first hotel I have ever visited without Internet access. In all my visits to napa and Napa Valley over at least two decades, I have always had immediate Internet access.. There was no innkeeper or security guard to ask about internet access . I would never disturb other guests to get the wifi password. No one answered the emergency phone and no one returned a phone call or voicemail message on the emergency number the hotel posted for emergencies. No innkeeper or security gurad was available 24 hours a day physically on site. If i had an emergency health crisis there would’ve been no way for emergency responders or first responders to get in the hotel to help or rescue me. No hotel employee would’ve heard me. There was no security person walking by on regular schedule checking on guests . I felt i was in danger. For my health, safety and peace of mind I had to leave immediately . I had to find another hotel and pay a premium rate to get a room. I have no plans whatsoever for the foreseeable future to return to this hotel

Wow wow wow! What an incredible experience. The stay here absolutely surpassed expectations. I have to extend such gratitude and appreciation to the innkeeper and the chef for how spectacularly they take care of their celiac guests. The gluten free breakfasts are out of this world! From the cookies upon arrival, the homemade granola, and the different breakfasts each morning with delightful gluten free pastries (blueberry fritters, cinnamon twists, apple turnovers, etc) and gluten free dishes (pot pie with the BEST gluten free puff pastry top, buttermilk biscuit egg sandwiches, poached egg on top of the fluffiest and lightest corn cake) were beyond incredible. Highly recommend doing breakfast on the patio so that you can start your morning chatting with the innkeeper who is the sweetest person and will absolutely brighten your mornings! She even packed me some granola for the road, and offered to email us the recipe since her mother was celiac and she knows how tough it is! Thank you so much for everything, this made our belated honeymoon and 1-year anniversary celebration everything we could have hoped for and beyond! -Neha and Yangsu

This was our first time in Napa Valley, and The Inn on First was a perfect home base. Jim and Jamie were very friendly and offered wonderful suggestions for spending our days. Breakfast was amazing, and was something I looked forward to every day. The rooms were immaculately clean and comfortable, and all details were well-thought-out. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
